I don't think that governments have really thought things through, as regards vaccinations and travellers.

Right now, millions of people are receiving a Covid-19 vaccine, which IMHO, is a great idea.

But where's the proof of that vaccination?  Where is the internationally-recognised Covid passport?  As far as I know, many people are receiving the vaccination and given no proof whatsoever that they have received this, apart from an entry in their hospital records.  Others are given a scrap of paper in whatever format the hospital sees fit.

The lack of global standardisation in proof of vaccination is going to create huge issues for travellers => how to proof you've received a vaccination, how to reassure others that your scrap of paper is not fake etc etc.

It's not going to be a scrap of paper. At the present time mass vaccination hasn't started, so far it's only been some aged people and health care workers in a handful of countries, and so far no demand for proof of vax from these people. But when mass vax programs kick in and the demand for proof increases there are hospital/doctor's records of who has been vaccinated. This information can be added of E-passorts, people can be issued  with photo ID cards, info can be stored online just like visas are. My TGF gets approved for a visitor visa for Australia and it's all online. All her personal info, visa details & conditions, all there online for airport officials to scrutinize.

  2. Going to be 100% certainty after mass vaccination kicks in and the demand for international travel rises. We'll need proof of vax to enter airports, board planes, and enter other countries. People will also need to provide proof of vax when applying for many jobs. Could also see it a requirement for entering sports stadiums, concerts/theaters, large pubs/clubs. And it's going to be a requirement for foreigners to enter Thailand and renew visas to remain in Thailand...no doubt about that one.

Same here, I live in Ubon, and there are farm fields directly behind my town. The charcoal burning makes me retch and puke sometimes, it gets that bad.

I breathed some directly in a couple weeks ago, about 100 meters from my home, that stench was in my mouth and nose. I tore home and washed my face, brushed my teeth, rinsed with mouthwash, and sucked a couple of lozenges. I didn't completely get rid of the taste and smell but it was more bearable. How can they stand around those fires breathing that <deleted>?

  4. Terrible where I'm living, out in the sticks of rural Korat, what with farmers burning their fields and every local making charcoal, plus the usual burning of trash & plastic. That charcoal burning smells worse....vile stuff, if I walk past one of those fires and the smoke gets in my mouth it's terrible taste, takes hours to get rid of it, yet I see Thais standing around those fires happy as old Larry, breathing in that vile stinking smoke.

My son in Australia is quite envious, he has to pay 5 times as much to get the same speed as I do here.

I can remember back 20 years ago I'd really look forward to making a trip back to Australia so I could get decent internet, now the exact opposite is the case. When I'm in Australia I get a Vodafone sim, costs me about double what it costs me per month here in Thailand and whereas in Thailand I get unlimited d/l, in Australia I get 15-20gig a month, so streaming movies and doing large d/ls are out of the question as I need to be constantly conserving data.

  6. I got DTAC pre-paid 10mb unlimited d/l sim in my smart phone. I hot spot that and connect my laptop, my wife's smartphone and the smart TV. I have no complaints at all, I d/l music from various blogs all day long on my laptop, while watching news and movies on the TV, while my wife is playing around on FB or watching cooking vids on YT.

Yes, and that damn Bat Woman should be hauled before the international court of justice in the Hague and examined and interrogated to get to the bottom of how the virus got out of her lab and how much clean up & cover up took place immediately after.

Ya din need a flight BKK to Perth.????For months last year you could have flown BKK to USA daily. Then you relax there for an indeterminate period of time while waiting for a repatriation flight , at you own expense. Most basic hotels in San Francisco are cheap now, just about $125 USD per night minimum.  Add $50 dollars for  food per person Might only be a few months. Then get to Sydney lock, down for two weeks for what $AUS 3000? Are you allowed to fly to Perth from Sydney then for another 2 week quarantine or do you have to buy/rent a house in Sydney?

See how easy it is? Every expat in Thailand???? is a Multi-Millionaire!

Yep, you sum it up well. While doing 2 weeks quarantine in Sydney for $aud4000, I'd apply for a permit to enter WA, flight Sydney to Perth, approx $aud600, and depending on the covid situation in NSW at the time, upon arrival in Perth could well be taken to another quarantine hotel for a further 2 weeks at another $aud4000. Fortunately, I'm quite comfortable here in Thailand and can wait it out. Just hope this pandemic doesn't drag on for years and years or I may well have to bite the bullet and go through all the hassle of finding my way back to Perth.

Talking about restrictions: What is the point to allow restaurants to serve food, but no alcohol, other than to hurt the restaurant sector even more?

It's a Thai thing. You've seen Thai males drinking, after a few glasses they're got an arm around the guy next to them, talking loudly directly into his face, after a few more they're become belligerent and shouting at everyone, spraying aerosol droplets everywhere.

    Quote from above:

"The Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha said today that Thailand is currently not receiving deliveries of the AstraZeneca’s vaccine, which is scheduled to start in June."

    Quote from yesterday:

"Prayut also revealed that the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine purchased by the government will gain approval from the Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA) this week."

Am I having a comprehension issue, or are those two statements contradictory?

    Yours,

    Confused of Isaan

It's like they don't care. Maybe they'll secure a few doses for the hiso and just give the masses some BS about waiting to make sure the vaccines are safe.

Honestly i cant see it improving this year  Maybe 2022 a chance Oh well I am Aussie and I am having a great time  No hurry to go home

Yes, I agree. I was optimistic that rapid mass vaccination would make a big impact and we could get on top of this virus in 2021, but so many are dragging their feet...in particular the two countries that effect me, Thailand and Australia. Neither seem to be particularly interested in cranking up mass vaccination programs. Morrison said vax will start in late Feb, but a couple days ago I heard Gladys B. say nothing's going to start until end of year. So maybe 2022. And no doubt in 12 months time from now we'll say "Maybe 2023"
