Now that Thailand will be getting the astra zeneca vaccine I am wondering if anyone knows why the efficacy as reported was between 62 and 90 % effective. Both Pfizer and Moderna's efficacy is 95% but I realize that due to the extremely cold refrigeration that is needed to preserve the integrity of these vaccines they would not be practical for Thailand. i understand that there was some sort of issue during the testing of the astra zeneca vaccine which might have caused the high variance of efficacy of this vaccine. If anyone knows any of the details of this I would appreciate reading about it. I am hoping that if their was a problem with the initial testing of the astra zeneca vaccine that it was corrected and that the efficacy of the astra zeneca will not have such a high variance in effectiveness in fighting the virus. It would be nice but probably asking for too much for the astra zeneca vaccination to also be in the 95% effectiveness range like Pfizer and Moderna's is.  Lastly I realize, unlike Pfizer and Moderna's vaccinations using new technology in producing their vaccines, Astra Zeneca used the more conventional approach utilizing a dead virus in producing their vaccine.  Does anyone know if the method used by Astra Zeneca is as effective as the new technologies used by Pfizer and Moderna in developing their vaccines Any clarification or  info would be most appreciated.

The reason is during the trails they tested a couple of different strengths of doses and got different efficacy results. The people who received weaker strength doses showed higher efficacy , so less was more. The AZ seems to be the vaccine that will best benefit mankind...very cheap, easy to store and transport.

  2. One time in Perth years ago I took some sailors from a Thai ship that docked at Fremantle for a drive around, we stopped at a supermarket so they could get some things, and they bought several cans of ginger beer. I didn't think anything of it but after they had drunk a couple cans each they said although they enjoyed the ginger flavor it was very weak beer and they couldn't feel any effect from it. So I had a good laugh and took them to a bottle shop.

  3. I have the Mor Chana app on my smartphone, no problems at all, works fine, easier to enter a store by just flashing the Q-code than having to write my name & mob number in the book, safer too as I don't have to touch the pen that hundreds of others have handled.

^ Tecnically could do it yourself. A small funnel and a freeze aerosol from Amorn Electrionics.

    If we had three hands!

I have thought of doing it myself, get some liquid nitrogen and use cotton buds to apply it. However, a skin specialist knows whether to apply to just the spot or to the surrounding skin as well, and how much to apply, so for the sake of a few thousand baht I'll get a specialist to do it.

I had a head to toe skin check up with Dr. Charoen Choonhakarn at Khonkaen Ram hospital and had some spots dealt with using liquid nitrogen treatment (cryo surgery). Check up and treatment about 4000 baht. The checkup was very thorough and his English is excellent. I think he's at the govt hospital too if looking to save some money.

Thank Kee Tua. I'll look further into your recommendation.

  6. Does anyone know where I can get some Liquid Nitrogen treatment for some skin spots?

I had some treatment from a skin cancer specialist in Australia pre-covid and she said I'll need some more treatment in the months ahead, however, I'm unable to return to her at the present time. So I like to get some further treatment here. However, a couple of clinic I've contacted only do laser, I don't want laser, want Liquid Nitrogen Cryotherapy.

I live in Korat, so any suggestions/recommendations for Korat or Khon Kaen or Saraburi (or anywhere near to Korat) I'd prefer a clinic as I don't really want to go sit in a hospital for half a day in these current times.

Update on the vaccine status: it was announced today that Thailand plans to buy another 35 million doses (but no further details, https://thethaiger.com/coronavirus/thai-pm-says-government-plans-to-buy-a-further-35-million-vaccine-doses), which would give a total of 67 million. If these follow two dose regimes it would cover less than half of the population.

Yes but vaccinating only half is not a big issue, even 1 dose gives good protection and now the experts are saying the 2nd dose is best given a few months after the 1st dose, not 2-4 weeks as they first thought. So the best plan is to give as many people the first shot and then there will be sufficient time before the 2nd shots are due to get new supplies ready.

To my knowledge, it's only an alien buyer that needs certificate of residency (if not having a Yellow House Book/pink ID-card), not the seller. Needed documentation are pasport, green book with up-to-date paid tax/insurance, and seller's signature at the Land Transport Office, eventually a power-of-attorney if seller is not present.

Well as stated above it seems this regulation only applies to Chonburi. But 6 years ago when I sold my old car to another farang in Pattaya, we both needed to get residency certificates from Imm. Perhaps Imm were BS just to get the fee for the certificates, I don't know, what I do know is I've been in Thailand a very long time and when they tell me I need this and that I give them this and that.

    A sort of Antipodean Lassie?

Like many I'll go with anything apart from Sputnik or Sinovac. But we farang are at the bottom of the food vaccination chain anyway unless we get out the $$$ ????

The Oxford is the one I want, it should be readily available globally in the next couple of months, unless Thailand is that far up China's backside they only go for Sinovac and deliberately refuse anything farang.

Indeed, the Chinese vaccine cannot be tested in China, because they don't have enough Covid to see if it offers any protection.  China achieved essentially Covid-free status through rigorous application of standard public health measures: testing, isolation of positives, and contact tracing.  No Western country has been able to implement these public health measures successfully.

Well Australia has, but they stuffed it up again by allowing some special privileged untested people like airline crew walk around downtown shopping and dining thereby reintroducing the virus causing this recent 2nd wave. And then they keep stuffing up the quarantine by outsourcing the security to security companies who employ dickheads and boofheads and machoman hoons, many of whom aren't even Australians but an assortment of flotsam on temporary visas....but apart from that Australia has done very well.
