Why do so many expats fall off their balconies in Thailand?
MyFriend You replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This is a hotel in Waikiki, they put up this net after a few tourists jumped off the roof, the hotel faces the beach, pacific ocean, and a Statue of the Prince. I wouldn't volunteer to test it though ???????????????? -
Big Decision: Which Asian country is ideal for foreign retirees?

Yet all the JOLLY BEE fast food joints are always full, with long lines waiting to order/pick=up. That explains all the Pinoys' Jolly Bee Bellies" -

That is true in any Muslim country............non-muslim cannot marry a muslim in their home country IF it is predominately Muslim. Granted most times this is only a symbolic gesture to show respect for the family. It doesnt mean you have to face Mecca and pray five times a day. -
Big Decision: Which Asian country is ideal for foreign retirees?

I must say the best 3 years of my former career were in Jakarta, I have lived and worked in 37 countries, and to this day when asked which was my favorite one - without hesitation, I say Indonesia!! They are one of the first to re-open after pandemic, really easy Visa laws, affordable housing and some of the best landscapes in the world. I don;t know who it was that is bantering "Sharia law in Indonesia" obviously they never lived there, or only stayed in the expat area - Block M - of Jakarta. Indonesian's are the most tolerant of any Muslim Country I have been in. Can't say enough good things about it.However, there is a form of Sharia in Banda Ache area, but is toned down after the Tsunami. -

Singapore is famous for it's Caning Laws, you can get 8 lashes for Graffiti on public bldg, street sign, sidewalk or wall. or Malaysia, I do not believe it is because of Sharia laws, they tried that back in the noneties, but once they started dictating to the Banks, the whole Sharia Law movement collapsed - read - they were kicked out. I wouldn't pick Malaysia over Thailand or Vietnam as I own property in both countries, but the Visa situation in Malaysia is more retirement friendly. -

We were taught, "Look left, Look right, look left again, then cross". It was drilled oin our heads, 65 years later I am still doing it. In Saigon, you start crossing and keep walking, Do Not Stop, or you will get hit, if you keep walking, it is like The Parting of the Seas, everyone goes around you like magic. Sort of a symphony..................Peace

In China and some countries in Africa, there are so many Motorcycles and Bicycles, they have stop lights at crosswalks just for them, lower to the ground, and turn red/green at different times than the cars - of course, they only allow motorbike and push bikes to run in their own lanes - not gonna happen in Thailand for another 20 years or so. I have lived/worked in 37 countries, and Thailand surprisingly has a smaller ratio of Motorcycles to cars in almost all the others...........there used to be a 75% import tax on moto's in Thailand, that kept the amount down. Guess that has gone by the wayside. Peace

Zebra Crossings?? They are Cross Walks, only Zebras in Thailand are in the Zoo's...........expensive but install a stop light woth a push button on either side to stop traffic, at each major crosswalk, repaint them all so they can be seen - when they repainted the ones in Pattaya, accidents went down "at those crosswalks". but not the others. Signs in Thai "STOPPING FOR PEDESTRIANS IS MANDATORY or a 5000 BANT FINE." Peace

Ailing Thai insurance company confirms it is still operating
MyFriend You replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yes Sir, you had insoro for one year, no plem, you hab cover of sure.............not making fun of your policy, I can just hear this being told to folks that call. I wish you luck having gone thru an Insurance scam in Panama some 32years ago, but the local Insurance company was non-existant, did not have a license to underwrite the policy on behalf of the parent company. Found out they scammed some eight hundred or so GI's stationed there. Parent company didn't pay, neither did I, courts were backed up - cases was lost. Far as I know, the truck is still down there somewhere. Peace -

MyFriend You replied to Edward Abbott's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Love it, it's not that I am lazy, I hate hanging around all these complaining Farang's in Immigration, so would use an agent next time. They start getting picky, I''ll use the Elite Visa route, slam bam thank you ma'am and good for 5-10 years.???? ???? ???? -

Hope for same-sex marriage still a faint glimmer in Thailand
MyFriend You replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Century's ?? maybe in the last 75 years.................but Asians as a whole have cross dressed, men dressing feminine, for a lot longer etc etc. The King and I comes to mind. I too, am surprised Thailand has not enacted same sex marriage laws, I can remember in the late seventies, early eighties where it was actually seriously against the law to attack a Katoey in any manner - the general consensus back then was gays/lesbians were somehow mentally deficient - of course we all know that is not true...............but it was a serous crime back then. Peace -
