  1. In 2021, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that Thailand had the second highest rate of traffic-incident related fatalities in the world. An estimated 22,941 people die each year due to traffic-related incidents in Thailand, constituting nearly 33% of the country's total deaths. Thats an average of 65 per day each and every day. To date Thailand has reported 26,596 covid deaths or 37 per day. Excess deaths may well double this figure but its still only equivalent to the road toll and likely to drop significantly now that vaccination rates are up and Omicron is prevalent. That's where I get my figures.
  2. 32 deaths from covid today. It will be another 120 from excess sugar (Diabetes and High blood glucose), 80 from road accidents, about 90 from pollution (at least). Just sayin
  3. Europe, the UK and America are starting to move on from Covid. Omicron has a tiny casualty rate when compared to other preventable causes of mortality such as pollution, road accidents, T2 diabetes. Maybe Thailand should consider the same before more economic damage.
  4. Here is a suggestion. Stop counting cases and stop sending people to hospital just because they have Omicron. The death toll is tiny when compared to other forms of preventable death in Thailand (diabetes, car accidents, pollution). Stop test and go as its insane when you already have likely around 50K cases a day. Count deaths if you must but publish them with other forms of death and let people assess risk. The latest research shows that recovering from Omicron protects against other forms of Covid.
  5. You will note that I wrote "high blood glucose and diabetes" - check your figures on the combined total and you will find its close to 40K. Concerning deaths, my point is that these are all, in principal, preventable deaths. Deaths from type 2 diabetes and high blood sugar, pollution, road deaths, could all be greatly reduced with campaigns far less economically and socially harmful as the covid restrictions. Why then do we daily publish 22 deaths, and place such broad and sweeping measures in place to limit the number, when deaths from other preventable causes are ignored. The reaction is completely out of proportion to the risk, as other countries are now starting to determine (US, UK, parts of the EU etc.).
  6. What a buffoon. There are about 17000 reported cases a day and likely 2-3 times as many real cases a day and shes worried about Barry Bar hopper having Covid off the plane. 22 deaths a day. About 80 people die on the roads each day so I assume its a more serious crisis. An estimated 32000 die of pollution a year. Thats 88 people a day 40,000 deaths in Thailand attributed to high blood glucose and diabetes. About 114 deaths a day. Will we have test sugar, test driving, test oxygen and Go?
  7. Sounds serious! - 22 deaths. Will you also please publish headlines on these other issues. About 80 people die on the roads each day so I assume its a more serious crisis. We also note an estimated 32000 die of pollution a year. That's 88 people a day so it must be a Whopper Crisis. Now this one is a HUGE crisis - 40,000 deaths in Thailand attributed to high blood glucose and diabetes. About 114 deaths a day. Looking forward to all the crisis reports.
  8. Krung Thep Maha Nakhon - So its being called "Gods city, the big city". OK I can go with Krung Thep but why bother with Maha Nakhon? Anyway... it will always be "Bangers" to me.
  9. He should let the CDD know his amazing findings. https://www.science.org/content/article/covid-19-takes-serious-toll-heart-health-full-year-after-recovery
  10. 15,000 omicron cases today and 20 deaths. About 80 deaths on the roads each and every day. Maybe time to just let us live with Covid.
  11. I posted this before and Ill post it again here. Just report number of deaths, but report them in relation to number of other types of deaths including motorbikes, cancer, diabetes, mosquito born diseases. Let people make up their own mind where the real risks are. Maybe then we can stop the irrational fear and return to normal.
  12. Here is an idea. Just report number of deaths, but report them in relation to number of other types of deaths including motorbikes, cancer, diabetes, mosquito born diseases. Let people make up their own mind where the real risks are.
  13. A sport in Thailand is to watch motorcyclists with no Helmet, drive like crazy but strap on that mask. I blame a lack of statistical knowledge.
  14. I think the big A has been smokin too much of that weed he's always pushing. ????
  15. Thailand desperately needs a less Xenophobic government. One willing to encourage immigration of a young educated and motivated labor force from nearby countries such as Myanmar. One willing to embrace westerners wishing to settle in Thailand bringing income, wealth and expertise. There needs to be a swift and rapid change in direction or Thailand will suffer the Japanese trap, but without having achieved near the wealth and prosperity.
  16. Just dont let it near Wuhan Lab and we will all be fine ????
  17. Nice to see they have road deaths covered. Now to just get the police and public as enthusiastic about reckless drivers as they are about Mask Mandates. Same for crop burning etc... Would be great to see this level of enthusiasm. Im pro vax, but I think many countries are ready to live with Covid as endemic, given that deaths from covid are falling well below deaths from many other causes not making daily headlines.
  18. The official covid deaths in Thailand are 22,176 to date, or about 11,000 per annum. The economist lists excess deaths to 28 Jan at 55,430 (https://www.economist.com/graphic-detail/coronavirus-excess-deaths-tracker). That's about the road toll over the same period. I think what you intend to say is that Covid is preventable by taking the necessary precautions and therefore we should track it. Are not diabetes (Type 2), Pollution and road deaths preventable. Why do we not have daily updates of those and extreme restrictions (sugar banned, factories and crop burning properly monitored etc.). Heck there are over 60,000 deaths from coronary disease annually in Thailand. Is pork fat consumption being reported each day. This reminds me of when there is a shark attack reported and so everyone avoids going in the ocean. Statistical perspective and risk is warranted.
  19. Something else worth repeating. Thailand has approximately 30,000 deaths from pollution annually, 25,000 from Road accidents, 80,000 deaths from diabetes, and only 11,000 from Covid (and Omicron will be far fewer). Thats 0.016% of the population, many of whom may well have died that week from the course of underlying diseases but were classified as Covid deaths. Do we really have to choke a whales blowhole for this?
  20. Some other fun facts. Thailand has approximately 30,000 deaths from pollution annually, 25,000 from Road accidents, 80,000 deaths from diabetes, and only 11,000 from Covid (and Omicron will be far fewer). Why dont we get daily reports on these other preventable deaths?
  21. How about we start to revert to no masks once vaccination levels are high enough? I agree that constant restrictions, closed venues and blocking travel are a disaster. Omicron has a very very low mortality rate and a low hospitalisation rate. Agreed a rapid spread will cause a spike in deaths, but by comparison, thailand has approximately 30,000 deaths from pollution annually, 25,000 from Road accidents, 80,000 deaths from diabetes, and only 11,000 from Covid (and Omicron will be far fewer). I dont see anyone stopping traffic, banning crop burning, checking factories or sugar levels in drinks . Why are we being so sensitive about covid????
  22. Shake hands with the CCP, count your fingers afterwards. Just ask Sri Lanka, Djibouti, Laos, Zambia and Kyrgyzstan etc... Thailand has enough economic woes without signing on as a province of China.
