  1. If it was me, i would go for an MT-09, no questions :

(even maybe MT-07 but you seem to want a bigger bike so)

    MT09 :

    - Overall great great performances

    - Maintenance should be much cheaper than on Ducati or BMWs

    - Great functions, for the price : Traction control, ABS, different ride modes

    - Fair price compared to BMW and Ducati's.

    - Reviews / user reviews all say it's a great nearly perfect bike for the price.

    - Low weight for a 900 (191KG dry)

    - Low sitting position.

Now it depends of what you like, naked, sports, classic style...

What you wana do with the bike, would it be more like a cafe bike or a real all day driving bike.

BMWs are outstanding bikes but to me it's a bad choice in Thailand, too heavy, too bulky, too pricy, maintenance would be expensive and hard.

Sports bikes are pointless in Thailand, can't ride on highways / tollways, low maneuverability in traffic jam, even wondering how it handles the heat if you get stuck in the traffic and / or always at low speed.

    But that's just personal opinions.

  2. Hum

I "think" so even if fortunately i never had to try it.

Just emailed bupa about this, but i can't see anything related to "vehicules accidents" in their exclusion list :

    Exclusion list (https://www.bupa.co.th/en/individuals/health-insurance/individual/detail.aspx?iid=13&ifid=45#tab)

    • Pre-existing condition or any medical expenses for a sickness that happens in the course of 30 days from the initial effective date of the insurance policy
    • Treatment or correction of surgery for congenital anomalies or development disorders
    • Medical expenses incurred from the treatment for attempted suicide or self-inflicted injury
    • Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) including a complication or sexually transmitted diseases
    • Any medical treatment that is not conventional treatment, including alternative treatments
    • Health check-up or a hospital confinement or a request for surgery, convalescence which is not under medical necessity or medical standard
    • Pregnancy, childbirth, miscarriage (unless the insuring agreement for maternity is purchased), contraception sterillization
    • Visual acuity, laser eye treatment, LASIK, dental treatment and aesthetics treatment such as acne, blemish
    • Sickness or diseases which happens within 6 months from the first day the Insurance Policy becomes effective including Tumors or Cancers, Polyps or Cysts, Hemorrhoids, Hernias, Pterygium, Pinguecula or Cataract, Tonsillectomy or Adenoidectomy, Stones, Endometriosis, Varicose Veins, Hallux Valgus, Ganglions
  3. Hi,

The problem is that most insurances does not cover you well for medical expenses, they cover 3rd party injuries up to 10,000,000 baht but you own injuries it's something ridiculous like 50,000 THB.

For example, my bike being "old" i was only able to grab a 2+ insurance for 2,000 THB / year, here's what it covers :

    Third party :

    - Death / injury or compensation : 300,000 BAHT per person, up to 10,000,000 baht per accident

    - Property damage : 600,000 baht

    Own :

    - Death / disability 50,000 driver + 50,000 baht passenger

    - Medical expense : 50,000 baht

    - Bail bond : 100,000 Baht.

So obviously it's not the best insurance, and what i'm gona say might be wrong but i think that even if you take a premium insurance you would be covered for 100,000 baht for your own medical expenses.

If you want to be covered for medical expenses, just take an health insurance, BUPA, AXA whathever, it's SO MUCH better.

  4. Crap. Just found out our friends were there. Posted pics of the fireworks, but no response yet. We're very worried.

If you know his real name there's an emergency / dedicated hotline that you can reach via 04.93.72.22.22. (+33 4.93.72.22.22).

Should have someone speaking EN there,

  5. Yah it's kind of a promo price but it's regular (it's not like if you could have it only 1 month per year).

I guess they just dedicated a certain number of seats per flight, last time i came with a person who had paid around 300 USD for the same flight, he was quite upset when i told him aha.

Anyway, from now on i only go with Lao Airline, i prefer to pay 1,500 baht more, but have a fast border cross, 5mn tuk tuk from the night market, no stress just 1 hr flight.

  6. Vientiane or Penang,

I would go for Vientiane, easier, grab a Laos airline ticket for +/- 130 UDS (both ways), arrive straight in the city (5mn tuk tuk), 1-2 nights and your out.

The embassy is very smooth now, took me 1hour to give my passport and 1hour the day after to collect it, it used to take like 4 hours before.

OOOR you can choose the "cheap charly tour", 12 hours bus, tired, slow border pass, tired, wait, switch bus, tired, wait, grab another tuk tuk, tired, wait, etc etc.

    Hi Pepper9187,

How did you find a place to stay in Laos?

I've always used the 'Cheap charlie' ;-) option, simply because I hate doing things for myself. I'd much rather just pay someone so I can avoid the hassle.

But I hate the damn bus trip so if there is an easier and safer way I'd like to try it.

    Thanks

Just go anywhere near the night market (river side) nice and cheap hotels (300 to 2,000 baht) and GREAT foreign restaurants / bars.

U don't really need to book in advance for Vientiane, but if you want to play it safe, then yes smt like Agoda.com is enough

  7. The only thing it's gona make is :

The red label drinkers to drink 100 peppers,

The 100 pipers drinkers to drink samsong,

The samsong drinkers to drink blend,

The blend drinkers to drink hong-tong,

The Hong tong drinkers to drink Yadong or lao khraw

The Singha drinkers to drink Leo

The Leo drinkers to drink Chang

The Chang drinkers to drink Siam sato (mmmm yummy)

Nice job guys, it's really going to solve the health problem

  8. You forgot :

    *Triple parking

    *Quadruple parking

    *U turn murderer !

    Wow...

Traffic police I define as those that enforce All Traffic Related Laws..

    1. Double Parking
    2. Driving Opposite direction
    3. Intersection lights operating
    4. Operating where high accident levels occur.
    5. Those who stop 2km before a check point grab
    6. Commercial transportation all get soberity/drug checked
    7. Enforce red zone parking
    8. Enforce After hours night clubs (Tai Pan in Patong)
    9. Enforce free public parking. Soi Sansabie, Ex-Pat Soi, Patong Beach Road, Rat-u-Thit Rd., Kata Rd. Instead of paid parking or Tuk Tuk only parking.

The list of traffic violations is endless.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
    It's payday!

  9. Lion air has a flight to udon arrive at 7.30 am and get a minivan straight to the border 200 baht and then to the embassy. Return 2500 baht and they have a fleet of brand new 737-900"s

Sent from my SC-01D using Tapatalk

Good work. AA has the return for about 1800 but they do not have early flight like you point out with Lion. So with aa the op would need 2 nights there. However I like udon. No problem

Check out Laos Airline (next time maybe)

I had a 130 USD ticket for both way BKK -> VNE all taxes included, so it's like 2,300 baht / way, no need to take another bus / tuk tuk or to spend night anywhere.

Flight's 1 hour and the airport in Vientiane is "in town".

  10. Forget it ;

First of all, highly skilled = will ask at least something like a PHD degree.

Second, it doesn't matter to have a 5 years visa, most companies don't hire much foreigners because of the quota foreigners / local hired AND the trouble / stress for them to make the paperwork.

Who cares for a 5 years visa, it doesn't make any sens, if you do your job you will be extended every year, if you don't do your job you will be fired before the 5 years, PLUS it would mean than the companies would have to pay the visa fees for 5 years straight, yes sure it's going to help, thank you very MUCH.

Want to attract more qualified foreigners ? Just make it easier for the companies to hire foreigners, it's as simple as that (not saying to open it full throttle, but just loosen the rules it a bit).

  12. Its not about the limit of each consulates.

It's about the limit on immigration computer system that gives an alert after 4 TR extensions within 12 months.

    Huuum interesting ;

But why would the system flag the tourist who have too many extensions but not the ones who have too many TR visas !?

Meaning is : Don't extend your visa, just get out / in with a new visa ... just surprising.

  13. Problem is not getting the visa,

    It's mostly going through the immigration at Don muang / Suva airport;

Llast time i went there the officer was looking each page of everyone's passport and questioning, he asked me why i had 2 tourist visa, what i was doing, where exactly i was staying.

The guy in front of me was stuck when the officer asked him to present his return ticket, he had to unpack all his cabin bag to find the paper.

  14. Errrr they should not be asking for that.

Are you sure they didn't misunderstood and thought that you were earning 40k per month (as per the law if you don't have 400K you must have a 40K monthly income).

It would explain why they would be asking you to see your WP.

Did you had the letter from the bank ? I would try again and explain them seelowly :D

  15. In addition :

    If you plan to drive in your own country with a Thai IDP, check your local laws before ;

Some country won't accept it if you used to have a license from your country and which was cancelled for whatever reason.

It's a bit "tricky", someone who never had a license can drive with an IDP, but if you had one which has been cancelled, you can't, not fair but it's a way for them to avoid "cheaters" who would try to come back with a crappy IDP.
