  1. from what i read, individuals cannot declare bankruptcy if debts total less than

one million baht. ...... maybe i should get her to charge more stuff?

she is NOT asking me for money. i kept tripping over the piles of monthly

    credit card statements.

i don't see her as a scammer. just someone from a culture with no education

provided in personal finance, and a live-for-today attitude. or am i missing

something? are thais famous for their intricate planning and attention to detail?

not the same mistake six or ten or whatever times.....a continuous attempt to

juggle multiple cards, moving cash back and forth to try to meet the deadlines.

same thing happens to many folks in the west as well.

i'm not going to pay off her loans. her responsibility....if she defaults, she has

to live with the consequences. for her that would be a bad credit rating and no

credit cards. but the banks will also have to live with their irresponsible lending.

did convince her to call the legal office number on the collection letter i tripped

over. they've agreed to a 50% settlement to close the account.

    one down.

i might could offer to lend her the money to pay one-time settlements for her

delinquent accounts. in the meantime, i have taken away her credit cards....

  2. as our boy sleeps indoors at night that is fine, but some of the day he likes to sleep under the marble table and benches outside, its where the mossie's like to hide,we used to light a coil at each end but the dog hated the smoke.so we bought 2 of those electric mossie burners with the floresant tubes.500bht.each.

do they work just have a look at the tray at the btm.enough to feed a tank full of fish.

we also leave one on in the kitchen overnight, not only kills any mossies but all those little black fkers that like to bite.

I've tried the blue light zapper but it didn't seem to attract mozzies.

Other insects that are no bother to us were attracted, and killed indiscriminately.

And then our Geckos went hungry! biggrin.png

electric floresant tubes attract all biting insects, but they must be the ONLY LIGHT at night. NO GOOD IN DAYLIGHT. safe to use in a bedroom and give a useful night light.

  3. Chilling new evidence from the Atlantic Ocean is raising fears that western Europe could soon be gripped by a mini ice age.
Global warming is slowing down the ocean current that carries warm waters from the tropics to the North Atlantic, scientists say.

hottest july recorded so far...or at least close.

i think the world is heating up...for now. I know in Chiang Mai it is.

August snow in Calgary..Canada. Everyone suprised yesterday

  4. I'm heading up to Mae Sai this Saturday (12th). I have a Multiple Entry Non-Imm "O", so hopefully won't have any problems re-entering, especially since I have two children waiting at home. Does anyone know the amount of money you have to show when entering Thailand, just in case I'm asked - is it 20,000 or 40,000? I've never been asked before, so have never really taken notice!

I'll also report back on how it went.

I have been in and out many times. I have never been asked to show money.

  5. Well , of course you could buy one in G/f name .

No, you can buy one in your name.... You don't even need a GF.

This massive myth that you are not allowed to own a house here really is bizarrely ingrained.

Rent land on 30 year lease.

Have a prefabricated house or lovely wooden one built to your liking, the older style wooden ones are lovely. You own it 100%, nobody else. If you ever want to move it, it is not difficult to do and many of the companies list this on their sales info, something like 20% of the cost of the house to move it at a future date if you wish.

Or build a typical Western style house that you own 100%, but is a bit more difficult to move should you wish. biggrin.png

People really need to stop listening to barstools and bargirls.

Far too much trouble and I doubt that it is simple to lease land, here in the land of scams. So I still say rent and be without stress. Move house .ie lifting it to another site. Why do I find this so funny ?

  6. Well , of course you could buy one in G/f name . Only she will dump you and have a free house. I rent rent No problem no worries no need to buy keep my money in my bank . Can do a runner if I get in trouble here . Buying in this problem country is sheer madness ..D o not consider it

No stress no bother you are in charge of your destiny not a Thai person.

While you and I agree 100% that the freedom and lack of worry that comes with renting is a much better deal than buying .. that applies to ... everywhere .. and is not Thailand specific. This is a thread about owning land in Thailand, and you have erred .. since a foreigner CAN own a house or condo .. just not the land it is built upon.

I agree with you. sometimes I look up at those suit cases and just smile .. thinking, I can top them off, hail a cab, and later that day, be on a plane to "Next Adventure, Next Life"

Buy land and a house?? .. not you or me .. but for some folks .. that works. I understand they want to own the land .. but that is never going to happen in the Kingdom. Not now, not ever.

Oh but I do own houses , several , but in the uk I am amazed how much rent the AGENTS get for me
