  1. Who would pay if you were not around....?

Absolutely so. Without you they would have coped , probably a cheaper arrangement. My suggestion would be to add some money to the village fund . NOT PAY THE LOT .. the village should be pleased with contribution. If not so be it .

  2. My predicition is that the EU will collapse and dissolve at some given point and that civil war in certain parts of it will break out due to mass immigration, religious conflict, unemployment, skyrocketing taxes, sharp increase in food and beverage prices, rents and general cost of living, the problems in Greece, Italy, France, etc... and spineless politicians in Germany, Sweden and Austria. Your money kept in a european account will either wither away or be impounded when banks go bankrupt, or during a currency reform, where all accounts are switched back to zero. The longer you keep your money there, the greater the risk. What I would do is to wait until the Baht equals 39/40 what could be in a few weeks or months from now and then exchange it, before it punges to unexpected lows. The market has been flooded with cheap money for too long. Hyperinflation and other horrors are waiting right at the doorstep! If you wait longer, the Euro might be gone already since this Euro experiment most likely will be coming to a quick and very painful end and then you will lose at least 50% of its value if not all!

WOW.... Am I glad we Brits do not have the Euro

  3. “The students nowadays fail because they just don't give a shit about studying and reading and they know that if most of the class fail, the whole class will still pass to the next course and finally graduate. Why? Coz you can't fail students in this country and make them repeat classes,” Wright said in the post.

The problem of the Thai education system in a nutshell.

My G/F is hopeless at school English. Ok she is 34 yrs old attending a high Thai high school . she is Burmese and doesnt do well learning in Thai. She has passed 4 levels , Noone fails. Complete farse innit ?

  4. Well , of course you could buy one in G/f name .

No, you can buy one in your name.... You don't even need a GF.

This massive myth that you are not allowed to own a house here really is bizarrely ingrained.

Rent land on 30 year lease.

Have a prefabricated house or lovely wooden one built to your liking, the older style wooden ones are lovely. You own it 100%, nobody else. If you ever want to move it, it is not difficult to do and many of the companies list this on their sales info, something like 20% of the cost of the house to move it at a future date if you wish.

Or build a typical Western style house that you own 100%, but is a bit more difficult to move should you wish. biggrin.png

People really need to stop listening to barstools and bargirls.

Far too much trouble and I doubt that it is simple to lease land, here in the land of scams. So I still say rent and be without stress. Move house .ie lifting it to another site. Why do I find this so funny ?

  5. IIRC, there was a rumour a few years back, that these creatures were fetching a good price-per-kg in China, for medicine to treat cancer or baldness or droopy-juju, or whatever.

And people were going round the villages, offering to buy them up, the number of tokays appeared to go into decline about the same time.

    Isn't living in a Thai village fun ! rolleyes.gif

I mean, one just couldn't make this sort of thing up, except possibly on 1st April & with sufficient 'lubrication' of the brain-box !

IME the tokay may relocate, after a few weeks, alternatively the farang victim might consider doing the same ? whistling.gif

My G/F says they are valuable for medical purposes . I met one dealer who had 20 or so in a large mesh basket. He fed them raw meat and ,yes , they have a powerful bite. He was feeding them with a pair of kitchen tweazers, carefully

  6. Well , of course you could buy one in G/f name . Only she will dump you and have a free house. I rent rent No problem no worries no need to buy keep my money in my bank . Can do a runner if I get in trouble here . Buying in this problem country is sheer madness ..D o not consider it

No stress no bother you are in charge of your destiny not a Thai person.

While you and I agree 100% that the freedom and lack of worry that comes with renting is a much better deal than buying .. that applies to ... everywhere .. and is not Thailand specific. This is a thread about owning land in Thailand, and you have erred .. since a foreigner CAN own a house or condo .. just not the land it is built upon.

I agree with you. sometimes I look up at those suit cases and just smile .. thinking, I can top them off, hail a cab, and later that day, be on a plane to "Next Adventure, Next Life"

Buy land and a house?? .. not you or me .. but for some folks .. that works. I understand they want to own the land .. but that is never going to happen in the Kingdom. Not now, not ever.

Oh but I do own houses , several , but in the uk I am amazed how much rent the AGENTS get for me

  8. They will come around the middle of May. So, we have to solve the problems fast, Wiyada said.

No problem, build a sewage treatment facility and feeder system along with a modern, sustainable waste disposal plan and educate the masses to use it in less than a month. Sounds realistic to me.

Too Late Mate. Now what ?
