Probably be best if you could post on actual experiences.... opposed to quoting some sweat / beer soaked sexpat that you have meet on your travels on Soi Buo Khaoi <_< .... 5/10 for effort i suppose

The good authority is myself, at nine thirty today the shop looked as it always has even the rice had been stocked with a brand I had not previously seen.

I am also not a beer soaked sexpat and do not go in grotty downtown bars.

Anymore flames from you and you will be on holiday.

  2. East Pattaya Fishing Park worker drowns as he searches for missing fishing rod

PATTAYA: -- A worker at an East Pattaya fishing park drowned as he was attempting to retrieve a fishing rod from the man-made lake at the Park. Police and rescue services made their way to the Mama Fishing Park off Soi Neun Plub Wan in the East of Pattaya. The body of Khun Biyapong aged 18 was retrieved from the lake as friends and family members looked on. It was determined that earlier in the day a foreign patron had mistakenly let go of his fishing rod as he was in the process of catching a fish, causing it to be dragged down to the bottom of the lake. Khun Biyapong went in to retrieve the rod and came up for breath complaining of severe cramp. He then went under and was not seen alive again

  3. Police impersonator arrested by Pattaya’s real Police

PATTAYA: -- A man who allegedly impersonated a Police Officer and promised the release of a man earlier arrested by Police on drug offences for a fee of 10,000 Baht was arrested by the real Police in the early hours of Monday. The incident began at Pattaya Police Station where officers were processing the arrest of a man caught with class 1 drugs. His girlfriend, Khun Pimnapat aged 23, was also at the station for moral support and was approached by a man who claimed to be an undercover Police Officer who could clear the case for 10,000 Baht. At the rear of the station, out of site from real officers, a deal was struck between Khun Pimnapat and the Police impersonator, Khun Naroonat aged 27 who was joined by his girlfriend, Khun Bungorn aged 29. It was determined the girlfriend of the arrestee could only pay 4,500 Baht which was accepted by the so-called undercover officer who told Khun Pimnapat to wait in front of Soi 11 on Pattaya Beach Road while he negotiated the man’s release from jail. She waited there for one hour and then realized she had been scammed

  6. We lived in Jomtien for five years, one of the deciding factors to move away from there was the continuous electric cuts and no water for days on end which at the time seemed to be getting worse.

  7. Pattaya Police Checkpoint leads to drug-related arrests

PATTAYA: -- Pattaya Police are aware that thousands of flood victims converging on Pattaya could also lead to an increase in criminal activity and for this reason regular late-night checkpoints have been set-up around the city to filter-out wrongdoers. We joined Police Colonel Nantawoot, the Pattaya Police Chief at a checkpoint in the early hours of Saturday on the Sukhumvit Road in Central Pattaya. Four men were arrested after they failed urine tests and two other men were arrested following a brief chase as they failed to stop at the Checkpoint. It was determined they had recently ingested Methamphetamine but were not found to be in possession of drugs and also failed urine tests conducted at the roadside. The Colonel also had a unique punishment for motorbike drivers who were not wearing their safety helmets. They were ordered to complete 200 squats instead of paying a fine at the Police Station.

  9. Evacuations Centers in Chonburi begin to accept flood victims

PATTAYA: -- Evacuation Centers around Chonburi Province have begun to fill-up as those affected by the floods in Bangkok and surrounding Provinces received much-needed assistance to relocate until the waters subside. We visited the Sattahip Navy Base on Friday Night as they received the first of what is expected to total more than 3,000 evacuees who have been transferred from evacuation centers in Northern Bangkok which are no longer safe, due to the rising flood waters. Further preparations have been made to accommodate more evacuees should the situation deteriorate further over the coming week

  10. Pattaya’s vanishing beaches

PATTAYA:-- Some people in Pattaya and elsewhere have recently suggested the best way to replace sand washed away from Pattaya’s beaches is to add more sand to them.

    Simple solution, isn’t it?

    Well, not quite.

Over the past year I have closely observed the beaches of Pattaya and Jomtien, and seen things which tell me dumping more sand on our beaches is definitely NOT the answer, as it simply gets washed away, which seems obvious when you think about it.

Give credit where it’s due, within weeks the city were quick to fill in this valley with more sand, using heavy earth-moving equipment, and after that exercise the same area looked like this:

  11. Jesters to celebrate 15th anniversary

PATTAYA: --The Tahitian Queen go-go (Beach Road) will play host to the 15th anniversary of the Jester’s Motorcycle Club on Saturday afternoon and evening, 29 October. The Jesters have helped to raise literally millions of baht in the cause of charity in Pattaya over the past 15 years and could, I guess, be described as a charity with a motorcycle fetish. Put it this way, if you have any doubts as to how to locate Tahitian Queen on the long stretch of Beach Road, well, just look for what may appear to be a used motorbike sale yard and you will have found it.

The Jesters Annual Charity Fair is one of Pattaya’s major events (held each September) and a lot of people devote countless hours to making the event a success. One of these is ‘Woody’ Underwood, the boss of the Tahitian Queen, simply referred to by most aficionados as the TQ.

  12. Koh Larn development suspended as city surveys construction

PATTAYA: -- Pattaya officials have halted development of four plots of land on Koh Larn as inspectors investigate protests by island residents that private companies had violated property boundaries and environmental laws.

Following a Pattaya City Hall protest by 660 islanders Oct. 5, Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome, Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh, members of the city council and various bureaucrats inspected the disputed land Oct. 14. Together with Koh Larn Village Chief Booncherd Boonying, they surveyed 320 rai of hillside above Samae Beach that has been deforested and flattened to make way for condominium and resort.

Residents had protested that the land was razed improperly and that the trees removed had been planted as part of royal reforestation project. However, Itthiphol informed villagers they were wrong and that the royally protected trees were elsewhere on the island. Itthiphol added that Pattaya Pavillion Grand Condotel Co., which had leased the land for 25 years from the city, had stayed inside its allotted boundaries.

  13. Empty shelves sure sign of flood devastation

PATTAYA: -- The worst flooding in decades is not only affecting families directly in its path, but in one way or another, its effecting nearly everyone in the kingdom.

Locally, kind hearted citizens are setting up collection points for essential goods and cash to help the tens of thousands of victims, the Thai Navy is building temporary floating structures for those that have lost their homes, and in general, as they have done in the past, people are rushing to the aid of stricken people all over the country.

A side effect of the massive flooding is the increasingly evident disruption to commerce. Anyone who has gone shopping lately most certainly has noticed empty shelves, higher prices, and goods that were once found nearly everywhere are now difficult to find.

  14. 870 Pattaya flood victims get 5,000 baht each

PATTAYA: -- Up to 870 families affected by the series of floods that hit Pattaya this rainy season received 5,000 baht each, along with more promises from city officials to fix the inadequate infrastructure behind the problem.

Deputy Mayor Wutisak Rermkitkarn, Banglamung District Chief Chawalit Saeng-Uthai and area MP Poramet Ngampichet gathered at Pattaya School No. 6 Oct. 13 to hand out the stipends to 870 victims of September’s floods.

Chawalit said that even as area politicians pushed the national government for relief funds, they were surveying impacted areas to come up with longer-term improvements.

  15. District chief issues warning: dismantle canal obstructions in 15 days

PATTAYA: -- Banglamung’s district chief gave owners of structures blocking South Pattaya’s main storm-drainage canal 15 days to remove those obstructions or face having the government remove them with force.

The ultimatum was issued on Oct. 18, meaning as of today, Oct. 28, there is only 5 days remaining in the grace period. Chawalit Saeng-Uthai said the 14 transgressors face “extreme legal action” should they fail to comply.

Illegal structures either blocking or partially blocking the canal have been sited as the main cause of severe flooding in South Pattaya and other parts of the city. Chawalit says that clearing these obstructions is the city’s main goal for reducing the chances of a repeat of Pattaya’s Sept. crisis that saw the worst flooding in decades.

  16. Almost 2 years later, city narrows beach massage control options to 2

PATTAYA: -- It has taken nearly two years, but Pattaya City Hall’s decision on what to do about pesky beach masseuses has finally come down to two options: ban them entirely, or limit the pestering to just Jomtien Beach.

At an Oct. 4 meeting, Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh listened as city bureaucrats presented their best suggestions on new regulations that control the swarm of masseuses on Pattaya, Wong Amat and Jomtien beaches.

Their research, which began in January 2010, determined that most of the “massage therapists” are working on Jomtien Beach and, therefore, the city should either ban beach massage altogether or limit services to Jomtien under new city rules governing proper training, adequate equipment and mandatory registration.

  17. Thousands of flood victims continue to arrive in Pattaya

PATTAYA: -- Those affected by the floods in Bangkok and Central Thailand continue to arrive in Pattaya as the situation in the flood affected areas, especially in Bangkok worsens. To facilitate the thousands of people who have chosen to reside in Pattaya, the local Traffic Police are working around the clock to ensure some form of traffic flow is maintained as they struggle to deal with the thousands of extra vehicles on the roads. The Pattaya Bus Company are now running services to and from Bangkok every 10 minutes compared to their usual frequency of every 20 minutes to cope with the increase in passengers. Flood Evacuation Centers have also been set-up for those who either cannot find accommodation or cannot afford hotel rooms and for now they appear to be coping well. For those living in Pattaya, sourcing food and other provisions is becoming harder by the hour as local branches of Tesco-Lotus in South and North Pattaya, Big C Supercenters and Macro’s in Jomtien are reporting critically low levels of essential items such as rice and eggs. Drinking water, in the main parts of Pattaya is becoming harder to find, however in the East of Pattaya supplies remain good for now. Some families we spoke with on Friday Morning have planned to remain in Pattaya for at least 2 weeks and unless supply routes are re-opened Pattaya could be facing serious food shortages across the entire city very soon.

  18. Illegal Money Lender caught by Police in South Pattaya

PATTAYA: --An illegal money lender who allegedly assaulted his customers after demanding extra payments on-top of what had been borrowed was arrested by Region 2 Police on Thursday Night. Officers from the Child and Women Protection Unit received a complaint from Khun Logana aged 27 regarding the money lender. She claimed to have borrowed 6,000 Baht from the man at an agreed interest rate of 20%, however before the money had been paid back, he changed the terms of the loan and demanded an extra 20,000 Baht to be paid as well as the original loan amount plus interest. Khun Logana alleges the man, later named as Khun Tawee aged 34, assaulted her and claimed the level of violence would increase if his payments terms were not met.

  19. Drunk driver blamed for serious road accident close to Pattaya

PATTAYA: -- Five men who had been drinking to celebrate receiving their monthly salary checks were involved in a serious road accident just before daybreak on Friday. Police and rescue services were called to the Sukhumvit Road in Na-Jomtien to deal with the single vehicle road accident involving a black Toyota Soluna. They were confronted with a chaotic scene with injured passengers strewn across the road. One of the passengers appeared to have very serious injuries and we understand he is currently in a critical condition at the Queen Sirigit Hospital in Sattahip. The driver of the car, Khun Sarort aged 23, explained to us that the group had gone to the Maptaput area in Rayong for a night out to celebrate their salary payments and all drank heavily throughout the evening. On the way back to Pattaya, all passengers fell asleep leaving the driver without any form of stimulation to keep him awake. He then fell asleep at the wheel
