  1. There is always the possibility “psuvanna’s” friend has Duel Nationality and the Canadian Authorities know this. I think Canada is one of the countries that permits this along with Australia and Britain allowing it citizens to have Duel Nationality therefor two Passports.

But if your friend entered Thailand on a Canadian Passport, and he still is a Canadian Citizen. Canada has the responsibility for him therefore they would be obliged to give him a Passport for a one way trip to Canada on sight of a one way air ticket. That is if he is a Canadian citizen and the confiscated Passport is genuine.

But if he entered Thailand on a Passport other than a Canadian Passport. Now that is a different matter then Canada is not obliged to give him a new Passport subject to the debt being paid.

  3. Generally speaking once you exit the country any extension on a visa is automatically cancelled. say for example I have a 60 day tourist visa on the 59th day I go to immigration and get a 30 day extension which gives me a total of 59 + 30 = 89 days I then leave the country on the 65th day. I cannot come back on the 70th day and say I had a extension. to the visa.

But it is not clear from your “Post” what visa you entered on

  4. Comments Please. I entered Thailand on a 60 Day Tourist Visa 12th July to 9th September 2007 at Sadao from Malaysia. As my Australian passport was ‘chock a block’ full I applied for and got a new passport at the Australian Embassy in Bangkok. When they gave me my new passport they also gave me my old one back which they cancelled naturally now my old passport has the current Thai visa in it. I intend to go to Immigration on the 9th September with the old and new passport, so they can put a 30 day extension in the new passport.

Now technically I am in Thailand on a visa, with a passport that is not valid, will I encounter any problem with Immigration for not going to Immigration the day I was given the new passport so the could validate it.

    bye for now

  5. .

Last week I accompanied my friend to the airport for his trip back to blighty.  He had a lot of baht to exchange into pounds.  Over three hundred thousand.  He does business with several companies when he is here.

The money was wrapped in bank wrappers.  Three hundred thousand baht bundles and one bundle of  87,000 with a rubber band around it and "87" written plainly on the top note.

We went to an exchange place down at the Burger King end of the concourse (terminal 2).  The one connected with the armed services, if you know what I  mean.  My friend didn't count out the money in front of the girl in the booth.  He just gave her the bundles and she turned around and used the money counting machine to count the notes.

We don't know when it happened, but somehow she took 17 thousand baht notes off the bundle that was wrapped with a rubber band.  She turned to her computer and typed in 370,000 baht into it.  Of course we protested and she returned the bundles for us to count ourselves.

Immediately we saw the top note didn't have "87" written on it.  The girl swore she hadn't touched any of the bundles.  She just put them in the counting machine.  After repeated questioning the girl just said,  "Look, do you want to exchange this or not?"  Due to the lateness of the hour she said no managers were available.  My friends plane leaving soon too.  I got her name and employee number and told her, using what Thai I know, that I would see her tomorrow morning.  It was then that she realized that I wasn't leaving and that I lived in Thailand.

I left my friend in the departure lounge and went home to plan how to proceed with this problem the next day.

Early the next day, my friend called me from London to say that just before his plane took off, the girl showed up and returned 17 thousand baht to him, explaining that she had recounted her money and "found a mistake".  HA!

We think she realized there was gonna be a big stink about it and she didn't want to be transfered away from her cash cow job.  She must be scamming a LOT of people this way and she feels pretty safe about it.

So BEWARE!  She may not be the only crooked cashier and others may be pilfering 200 here and 700 there depending on how much the tourist has to exchange.

Count in the presence of the staff!

    'nuff said

Please would you sent to details (TO [email protected]) Bank name, teller name, date. confirm Terminal 2.

I have some good contacts at the Don Muang airport. who would like to put a stop to it.

    Thanks Andrew

  6. I have heard of a mini-bus service operating between the Northern bus terminal and the Southern bus terminal. IE: for passangers comming from the Northern provinces and heading further South (Hua Hin, Phuket etc) Does anybody have any info about this service, costs etc :o

Mini bus to Hua Hin and south leave from Victory monument.

from nortern bus terminal Mor Chit to Sai Tai (Southern Bus Terminal) I catch Orange air con bus or Red none air con bus from local bus station next to Mor Chit Terminal, only caught mini bus at Mor Chit to Pattaya, over priceed.

  7. Yes best option is Mae Sot, Take a bus to Tak, ie the Khon Kean to Chiang Mai service about every 2 hours. from Tak take a mini bus through the mountains, good road but crazy drivers. at Mae Sot, mini bus stop in the town get motor bike to border 30 to 50 Baht or their is the Baht bus @ 10 Baht. exit Thailand walk across bridge (Burmese walk/wade across river) Myanmar visa is 500 Baht plus 5 Baht for photo copy ( I think, I only needed 1 photo). on that Myanmar visa you can stay on the Burma side till immigration office closes same day. but I understand you can get a permit to stay in border town for 2-3 days but no more than 5km from town.

No problem re-enter Thailand, 30 day visa, but they do check passport to see your visa runs are not all at the same border. on bus back to Tak be prepared for 2 to 3 passport checks on the highway.

Their is a nice cheap hotel in Mae Sot, the timber carving in the room's and on the stairs is a treat for sore eyes.

This Myanmar border does not have the DVD's that can be found at Mae Sai/Takilek border.
