  1. sorry old chestnut.....can i get a 30 day extension on a 30 day tourist visa nb in the same way i can extend a 60day SETV?

my point being im trying to work out whether its worth the hassle of getting a 60d SETV as for my particular plans im going to have to end up doing a border run anyway!

(my situation save anyone needing to ask= arrived 10 Nov on a 60, got till 8 Jan, was going to extend 30 then go Ranong come back in, then 30+ 30 ext took me to April 9 ish, then leave country then to avoid Songkran (13 14 15 april)....Now plans change i have to got to go UK(Dad died )back 22 dec.

    1. If back on a tourist 30d i get to 20Jan, extend 30(NB IF POSSIBLE) =19 feb go ranong, stamp to 20 Mar, extend 30 = 19 apr so still able to stay before leave april 9 )
    2. if back on a 60d SETV then get till feb 19 extend 30 (FOR SURE) =21 mar , leaving me 19 nights short of april 9 so id have go to Ranong anyway

So my point again is why bother getting a 60d visa exempt if youre going to have to do a border run anyway? An important point is that Lady from Liverpool visa Office says in order to get a 30 day extension on a tourist 30, you have to prove you have a return flight within that extended 30 day period(i wont have that!) but i have raised this before on here and a few replied to say you get your extension regardless of return flights , any thoughts on that too? thanks

  2. I hit the 6 month issue back in 2011. I called up when i was next travelling, and asked if i could still get cover if i had not been in the UK for 6 months. Policy came back exactly the same as before, with the 6 month rule. Do not rust anything they tell you. Also, back in 2010, i was caught up in the Swampy closure, the insurance refused to pay for that classing it as 'civil insurrection'. Also wouldn't pay for emergency dental work. Basicly all insurers are c***s. Since 2011, haven't bothered with travel insurance and saved myself a packet.
I feel your pain Bro, I really do!

  3. I'm 47 and my 8 months insurance was £115. Incl bikes to 125cc. moneysupermarket.com you can add on extras like bigger bikes
Fyi moneysupermarket doesnt work for me on this occasion as I have already travelled.

    My dilemma is...
    1. I have already travelled
    2. I need cover for nearly 7 months
    3. I have medical some medical conditions but I would waive those if necessary
    4. I have a denied claim & a void policy with another insurer, albeit I'm contesting that!

I'm waiting to hear back from True Traveller and 1 other. Thanks all

  4. That's a very useful comparison thanks. As I'm looking from now till 22 June but I'm not doing any dangerous sports. I spoke with True Traveller on Friday and they need to ask me further questions regarding my aging body parts! Do you mind me asking how old you are as that would again be useful to compare? I'm 55 and just play golf.... (sold my VFR 750 15 yrs ago!) cheers

  5. But yes I have challenged them to listen to the recordings etc and await reply, whilst the policy may still be invalid then at least I'm due a full refund of premium , the hospital bill refunded plus a bit of compensation for the aggro!

  6. and to be fair to you i dont doubt what youre saying(now) but to be equally fair it would be nice if they asked the question in plain clear English and not a stupid confusing way which caused me to give the 'wrong' answer. JUst ask ...have you spent more than 6 of the last 12 months out of the UK? What could be plainer than that ? but they asked me have you  lived in the UK for 6 months?(answer Yes! all of my life actually) Idiots!

  7. Ok for anyone who is interested in this subject...
I chose an insurer that I had successfully claimed off before
But they have just shafted me in the most despicable manner
In short they asked have you been living in the UK for 6 months? As I have been living there all my life I said yes! Ie I wasnt new to the UK or had emigrated and just returned.
They are now stating that what that question means is 'have you spent more than 6 of the last 12 months out of the UK? And if they had put it like that I would have answered yes! Bottom line that have refused to pay a £1300 bill from Bkk HH Hospital (I'm never going there again! ) AND on top of that they have announced my policy is void. I will be taking action against them etc etc but I'm now 'stranded' so to speak without insurance.

So be careful with these snakes in the grass insurers who ask you ambiguous questions then shaft you when you get them wrong!

    Thanks all

  8. Thanks for all replies, the key here is that I have already started travelling and most won't do that but I now know the two Steve mention(true Traveller and Nomads) do specifically accommodate that, but will try the other too! thanks again [emoji106]

  9. Travel insurance SOS!

I urgently need travel insurance for next 6 months in Hua hin as I have been shafted by my current insurer.

Anyone know any companies here or UK etc who deal with people who have already travelled?

    Thanks in anticipation

  10. Q1. Do you really have to prove you have a return flight within your original 60 day(or possibly 90 as you could extend) if so likelihood?

Q2. Same Question if you leave Thailand and re enter for 30 days by LAND ?

Q3. Same as Q2 but by AIR

Personally I have never been asked before either on arrival or when going to Ranong for visa run but was I lucky?!

    Thanks

  11. Ok so I'm familiar with the 2 per year land crossing (30day entry) limit but can I assume it's 2 per 12 month period(not calendar year)

Also I would like to question the 'genuine need' (likelihood) for proof of a valid flight out of Thailand within said 30 days. When I came back to Ranong in February '17 I'm sure I wasn't asked for that, but wondered if I COULD possibly be asked to produce it ie if I didn't they could then refuse entry?? This came up in discussion with Liverpool Consulate lady this morning and to be fair she's only relaying the rule as she knows it. She also added that they can insist on seeing 20,000 bht in cash as proof that you have some money to exist? Any thoughts appreciated thanks

  12. Rather than put the apps on the memory card will it allow you to extend the physical memory to the card Nb permanently?! You won't be able to reuse the card but you could extend the phones memory. I think anything post Android 6 operating system should allow this. Check it out on YouTube good luck

  13. My cubot note S (cheap cheap I accept!) has an issue where the clock top right on notification bar(see below) goes slow and gets well behind real time. If go into settings and date and click on 'set time' that tends to wake it up and then it corrects. The worry is alarms and notifications work off the clock. Any ideas to fix or alternatives? thanks 2048b1c933a6b8666147bf719f136d62.jpg

  14. All I can report is that I have had no issues as re sim 1 sim 2 I have UK in sim 1 and Thai sim 2 see attached...mostly I turn off Thai when in UK and vice versa, I turn on when I need to or to check. My phone is cubot note S and does not support 4g. But I have only travelled in thai and UK not used in other countries, oh that said I'm fairly sure I used thai sim in Cambodia, but then replaced with a local. Not being funny but what is your real concern here? You can always put a local sim in... cb83c15d51621541b299c68d58109094.jpg

  15. But have you checked the battery life itself? And have you left on charge long enough to get to 100%? Its possible that it's just telling you it's 50% when in fact it's fully charged. Maybe not, but needs ruling out. My smart phone has a very good battery life but the battery meter readings are very misleading and I have learned to ignore them! Have you Googled searched a 'fix' for battery meter and your tablet as there is one for my phone I just haven't done it yet. You certainly need to rule out a software bug first good luck

  16. i have only used Emirates and mostly Etihad to get from Manchester to BKK and am now thinking of trying Qatar as Etihad are unusually expensive next week

Looking for any feedback re the connections airport etc especially from golfers taking their clubs....luggage allowance is a total of 30kg i believe(as per Emirates) not quite as good as Etihad who are 23kg plus golf bag of 15kg so 38kg

    thanks
