  1. To give an example, I'm around 100-105Kg, on my race bike in the dry I run 115psi rear and 105psi front.

    If it's wet/raining I'll drop that to 105 rear and 95 front.

    Any less than that and as el jefe says I get pinch flats on rough surfaces.

    Basically though you have to experiment a bit to see what works for you.

  2. I'm using a Bontrager 700 RT, very impressive light although only has a 1.5 hour runtime at full power. I haven't used it in the rain yet though so can't comment on its reliability there, but so far I'm very happy with it

  3. If you're looking for a crank based PM, then Stages and 4iiii are around the same price locally as overseas, Quarq around 10-15% more expensive.

    I would source locally if you can, but forget powertap, the local distributor isn't very good (as you've found just on the pricing)

  4. Try Ciao Pizza next to the Bangkok Bank main office on Silom, makes Scoozi seem like Pizza Hut in comparison. It's run by the same people behind Water Library. There's also a 24 hr ramen shop next door, don't try it, it's rubbish (really)

  5. I'll have my friend find out if you can change the registration. I don't think he cares. He would just rather pay for a number than jump in for free.

    They just announced that can sell entries and change the registration details until the 25th Jan, so if you know anyone that wants an entry, mine is up for grabs!

Masters Tour of CM was announced for Oct 21-24 this year but since it is always Fri - Mon, it will probably be Oct 20-23.  They're planning on changing Stage 2 from a point to point road race back to wicked hard circuit race. The course is one of my two favorite circuit races I've ever done in 30+ ears of racing. Unfortunately it's been closed to bike racing for several years. I think it's wishful thinking that they'll be able to hold the race there. I'm usually not in CM then but if they get that course back I'll make sure I plan my travel accordingly.
     
    Too bad you can't make the Doi Inthanon race. I have several friends interested in buying an entry so they can do the event legitimately. Let me know if you're interested in selling your spot.

    Happy to sell it on, do they allow you to change the registration though? Otherwise they'll have to pretend to be me!
  7. Moonoi, 1,100 meters qualifies as a hard day. But if you really want to do some climbing, come up to Chiang Mai and join us for a few rides. There's a weekly ride of 1200 meters of climbing, and we usually schedule a second day with anywhere from 1450 - 2500 meters of climbing. Leave the deep dish wheels home though.

    I signed up to do the Inthanon Challenge in Feb, but due to work commitments won't be able to do it. But I plan to do the Masters Tour of Chiangmai later this year (Sept I think).
  8. For battery reasons I'd rather not look at my phone.  Also, there's no room on the handlebar, with my reflector and my bell and one or two light mounts.  The speedo will go on the stem, I believe.  (Yet to fit - I will have a look in the New Year.... probably...)


    That's why I use a Garmin that has its own GPS and connects to my phone via Bluetooth for uploading data to the internet and so the Mrs can track my rides ;-)

    I just meant that you can increase the accuracy of your phone in your pocket by connecting such a sensor if it concerns you that much.

    Another device that is quite good is the Wahoo RFLKT which is basically just a low power display for your phone to save you battery whilst still showing you the info you want. It uses your phones GPS to display speed etc
  9. I've just bought a bottom-of-the-range bontrager speedo so that I can keep an eye on speed as I'm riding - GPS-tracking phone stays with screen off in the backpack, to save battery.
     
    On long rides, I over-cook the first quarter, and I'd like to bring my overall average up this coming year.  The problem will be the difference between the measured speed and the GPS speed...

    I haven't found there to be any real difference, but you can get a wahoo speed sensor that like the Garmin attaches to the hub and connects to your phone using BLE (Bluetooth low power) or ANT+ if you have an android phone that supports it.
  10. What do you want to know? It provides cadence and speed, if you don't want to stick magnets on your wheel you could use a Garmin sensor instead, one wraps around the front or rear hub for speed and the other around the left crank arm. Easily removable and transferable across bikes as well (if you have more than one), Wahoo also offers something similar to the Garmin system.

    Actuell found that its a lot of year end bargains around. I had initially planned a quick, reasonable investment but with all this "specials" Im afraid I gonna end up with more than a wekend ride :huh::smile:
    Btw, back to Polygon bikes. The owner of the dealer here I rest my head most of the time asked me yesterday if I was buying for myself or for a Thai (  height) and I told him I looked for a reasonable second bike for myself. He is quit tall compare to the general population, I guess around my height which is 176cm. He showed me a Polygon he used as Demo and for a occasional Sunday ride the computer had 300km on it (yes I know that can be reset). As mentioned this bikes sell in AUS now (2016models) for AUD 1000,- and in Bangkok for about THB 29000,-
    When Thailand is a bit different than the West when it comes to second hand how much should I pay for a demo here. In the west I would expect at least 30% of the retail price but what about here? Btw, the bike looked ok.

    About the same to be honest. Although here you don't really have as much choice, so it becomes up to you as to whether you think the discount being offered is worth it or not.
