Cheers….always learn some great stuff on here….they are frightfully expensive….which one would you recommend for someone who only travels with bike once in a while…I also want to learn how to dismantle the bike myself. Any sources to recommend where i can watch a tutorial…I have a road bike with flat handlebars and mountain bike geometry.

    Going quite cheap today

  2. That's a tough one, Sport Bicycle were having a sale on their EVOC bike bags, which made them less than 20k THB, but no idea of that offer is still running or not.

Going cheaper the bike bags don't really offer adequate protection and you're probably better taking your bike to a local bike shop and asking them to pack it up in a cardboard shipping box for you. Costs 600-1000 baht depending on the shop, you can ask them to watch as well, so you know how to put it together again.

If you're going to do it yourself it's a good idea to invest in a torque wrench so you don't over tighten the stem/handlebars/seatpost when putting it back together. You'll also need a pedal wrench to remove/replace the pedals for packing as well

Its Indonesian brand and like the "Java" bicycles you get a low priced bike with good components. Im looking for a second bike because I commute between two provinces and the Polygon Helios C5 2016 are now on sale in Thailand for around Thb 28-29xxx,- Coming with full Shimano 105 components, Shimano Rs 10 wheels and carbon fork. Sure its not a top end bike but personally after years with carbon bicycles, Shimano Ultegra / Dura ace and generall high end bikes the truth have finally got into me also, "its not about the bike" at least not in my age
I have a Trek Madone at one place but was thinking og either Polygon or Java to use for mostly weekend rides when in the other province.

Anyway, cheap or expensive bicycles, I would feel more sure to invest in another toy if anyone have "hands on experience"!

    Thanks
    Felt.

At that price I'd go with a Merida, which is similarly specc'd and priced

  4. I know it's an Indonesian bike brand, don't really see them around much. I think Cycling Tips did a review of one of their bikes a couple of years ago and found it to be an excellent value for money proposition, but don't know if that holds up in Thailand or not.

  5. Planning to travel with bike soon. Dont know how to disassemble...will i need the services of a bike shop to dismantle and flat pack it?

Suggest you invest in a Scicon Aerocomfort bike bag. It's a little expensive, but you don't have to take your bike apart to pack it, other than removing the wheels and lowering the seat post.

  6. Actually going down there at the end of the month to see a few LBS in Bangkok and Pattaya. Probike is on my list. I have sent the ones I am going to see messages as well already but waiting for replies now.

STILL looking for shoes big enough. lol All shops tried up here, Udon Thani area, tell me there are no shoes over a size 45 available in Thailand. Haven't worn bike shoes for 15 years or so so really want to try them on first to get the right size. That puts online shops at the last resort position unfortunately.

Being new to sourcing cycling gear in Thailand I am on a fast learning curve of the best places to look. lol

Thanks for the feedback and advice guys. Much appreciated.

This is normal, they normally require at least a 30% non refundable deposit to order a larger framed bike. To be honest, it's understandable as they don't want to be left with a bike they can't sell. The way the market works here is very different to the U.K./Europe and U. S.

Suggest the following if you're coming to BKK to look

Trek - ProBike (Lumphini or Rama III)
Commencal - Culture Cycliste (Lumphini, a short distance from ProBike)
Scott - KH Cycle (Chocolate Ville)
    Giant - Worldbike (Praditmanutham Rd)
Specialized/Colnago - Sportbicycle/Peleton (Lumphini opposite side to ProBike)
Merida - Cycle Sport (China Town)

All of these will also order in larger sizes if they don't have in stock, be prepared for a 3-6 month wait though. Worldbike is the only one I've been to, that can check and reserve stock at the factory while you're in store, if the factory has it, takes 4-6 weeks to arrive.
  7. Yes, all in BKK, there are maybe some closer to you, but I'm not familiar with your area, others on the forum my know.

If you like Canyon, suggest taking a look at their framesets and shipping to Thailand, and sourcing components locally for a cost effective build.

  8. They are far more consistent these days with the duty, gone are the times when you might get something through without tax and duty ;)

For mountain bikes, suggest trying Culture Cycliste, they normally have a few larger sizes for Commencal, World Bike also used to have a size XL Giant Reign frameset as well, and then the only one that consistently carries foreigner friendly sizes is Probike, but not for all models of Trek.

If you have something and a budget in mind, I can ask around for you

  9. Import the frame only and the duty is 10% plus 7% tax, if you go for a complete frame it's 30% plus 7% tax

What kind of bike/size are you looking for, I know sport bicycle had a 2013 S-Works Venge frameset in size 58 a couple of months ago

  10. If you're going to stay for a while , why don't you just buy a cheap one,  If you just need a city bike Big C sell a good bicycle for 2.500 baht

That is the funniest thing I've read for a while. Who buys a bike from Big C, for 2500 baht it certainly won't be good.....
