Scottish holidaymaker’s scooter disaster in Koh Pha Ngan

There was no specific mention of the nationality of the other rider. However, considering the media’s consistent tendency to highlight any involvement of foreigners, the absence of such a detail strongly suggests that the other rider was likely Thai. This inference aligns with the pattern of reporting and serves as a reasonable assumption based on the available context. I really don't know how to spell that out for you - its an assumption, but one based on reporting patterns. -

In the end... he still faced the prospect of Jail - Charges brought in 2013, convicted in 2016, acquitted on appeal in 2018... after spending how much on defence and appeals ???? Additionally, it was widely known that the acquittal arose from international pressure and the power of support from international media - this same pressure does not exist for a customer publicly shaming a restaurant for glass in pizza.... This is why Thailands defamation laws are so widely criticised, both domestically and internationally. I'm also quite sure that someone with your intelligence is not in favour of Thailands defamation laws as they currently stand - thus, you are clearly arguing for arguments sake. -

Of course I've been there... But that is of no relevance at all with regards to whether or not the other party was Thai or Foreign. -
There are plenty of parents who don't see the return on investment - their children grow up to sweep the roads, become delivery drivers etc... Those who want to give their children the best possible opportunity do so to the best of their ability... this involves moving to the catchment areas of better schools, paying for better private schools, giving their kids additional tuition to get into grammar schools etc... ... In Thailand, this means placing our children at the best school we can afford, i.e. International Schools. Just 'speaking English and having a Western Passport' is most certainly not sufficient... in my opinion of course. Thus: In this example of an immature man wanting a child - is he aware that if he plans or hopes for the best success of his child, education is a key factor and that is expensive in Thailand. Before anyone takes that out of context, happiness is also extremely important, but that does not mean an excellent education and happiness are mutually exclusive.

I'd hope so - such events 'need naming and shaming' for the greater good of the public - but this does not happen. -
This could be more do with the acceleration and speed they can achieve... If comparing like for like and your 'diesel truck' could accelerate to 100kmh in 3.6 seconds I'm quite sure that the findings would be quite different and 'fast trucks' would top the stats as they are inherently less stable on the roads in the first place. i.e. More Teslas are involved in higher speed crashes because they can get to such speeds so quickly from a standstill - the same would occur if the super fast Porsche 911's were $40,000 and purchased in similar numbers to Tesla, there would be more crashes involving Porsche 911's. The stats suggested in the report you read is more a indication of the performance rather than poorer safety.

Then why has the chain not been named ????.... The answer is a simple one - all those concerned and reporting on this issue are aware they could face charges when making a public comment which names the chain. Precedence exists - though the ruling was ultimately overturned due to the negative international publicity the case received: In 2013, British labor rights activist Andy Hall faced multiple defamation lawsuits filed by Thailand's Natural Fruit Company. These legal actions stemmed from a report by the Finnish NGO Finnwatch, which alleged labor rights abuses at Natural Fruit's factory, including underage labor, passport confiscation, and unpaid overtime. Natural Fruit pursued both criminal and civil defamation charges against him, seeking substantial damages. In 2016, a Thai court found Hall guilty of criminal defamation and violations of the Computer Crimes Act, sentencing him to a suspended prison term and a fine. However, in 2018, the Thai Court of Appeals overturned this conviction, acquitting Hall of all charges. This case drew significant international attention, highlighting concerns over the use of defamation laws to suppress investigations into labor rights violations. Though the above example concerns labour rights, the issue highlighted how 'truth' may not be considered a defence and that Defamation laws are abused in Thailand. -
Yes, that sounds correct. Also note: You may not need an 'upgraded meter' if the existing meter and power supply fall within spec. The 'inspection team' will be able to make that evaluation. For example: When we purchased our EV - the inspection team visited our house and checked a few things (multi-meter stuff) to evaluate the incoming power supply which highlighted that no alterations were necessary. The installation team returned a few days later. About two hours were wasted in discussion as they wanted to 'install / route' the conduit in the laziest way possible... i.e. the easiest way for them, while I insisted on it being hidden. Once they finally accepted that I wasn't going to budge on the routing, they got to it, which took them the remainder of the day.

Official statistics on the foreign population of Ko Pha-ngan are unavailable. What is known is that approximately 7,500 Thai residents are officially registered, while estimates suggest around 14,000 people live there, a figure that includes many unregistered Thai residents. While I agree that, relative to other areas of Thailand, the likelihood of the "other motorcyclist" being a foreigner might be higher, the population distribution still suggests it’s statistically more probable that the other rider was Thai. This is simply a matter of numbers. Moreover, given the absence of any mention regarding the nationality of the other rider and the way compensation was handled; very efficiently (which speaks volumes when one reads between the lines) - it seems reasonable to infer that the other rider was Thai. This assumption isn’t baseless but grounded in the available information and an effort to remain unbiased. Conversely, your insistence that the other rider was foreign appears rooted in personal inclination: either to argue against me or, more pointedly, to align with a bias against foreigners in any situation involving Thai-foreigner dynamics. Your desire to frame the narrative in such a way betrays a perspective that’s less about logic and more about pre-existing prejudice. -

Nope - you're just a trollish time waster - I've seen this with your content in plenty of other threads too. As mentioned - Thailands defamation laws are incredibly easy to fine... you've been spoon-fed the sections - if you're too stupid to find them thats your issue - I'll not waste my time with fools. -

Information on Thailands Defamation Laws are readily available (and in English). Quote attributed to Mark Twain: “Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.” And for this very reason I'm going to start ignoring you... you're just a time wasting trollish fool offering nothing to the conversation. -
No need for a second line at all - they will just tap in to the mains junction box inside your house. Personally, I want to follow the advice I was given and avoid using the granny charger as the primary charging source, though this thread already highlights that a number of people are doing just that. If purchasing an EV it makes sense to plan to have a Type 2 Home Charger installed - I wouldn't buy an EV if I couldn't have the type 2 charger. If waiting for the Type 2 home charger to be installed its not unfeasible to rely on the granny charger... Better still, you can go to a shopping mall and plug in there while walking around. Or, go to a petrol station and use their CCS2 charger (you should get decent 'chunk' of power in about 30mins.

There's no need for a 'second line' at all. The Home Charger taps into the mains junction box of the home (assuming the electrical supply is sufficient). The Home Charger installation company will visit your home and run an assessment. For example: Our mains charger is in the kitchen at the back of the house. The cost of the charger and Installation was all included in the price of the car. Some work was involved to run a conduit from the junction box, inside the ceilings and out through an external wall to the charger box. We had to get a separate company in to 'repair' the holes that were cut in the ceiling to run the conduit - which cannot be seen until it exits the house at the front.

Just because you're an ignorant newbie, it doesn’t mean everyone else is, though it’s amusing how confidently you flaunt your ignorance. Perhaps one day, you'll grasp the concept that projecting your own painfully narrow perspective onto others isn’t just flawed thinking, it’s a tedious display of your lack of awareness. Until then, keep revelling in the bliss of not knowing what you don’t know.
