  1. No... Its not OK for anyone to ride through an intersection at high-speed.... But, you seem to suggest its ok for the SUV to ride through a solid white stop line at speed without looking or paying attention to what is already on the junction. The road design here is also hideous and contributes to the incident... but the primary cause is the SUV not stopping or slowing and giving way to traffic already at the junction. The SUV approached the junction at speed without any intention at all to stop... and as you can see from the image below... with the shops on the right the SUV was blind to any traffic approaching from its left - crossing this junction at any speed (from any direction) is lunacy..... and for the SUV it appears illegal as it didn't give way to traffic on the junction. Your argument SAFETY FIRST involves your belief that the road running north-south either side of and parallel to the railway tracks is a primary road and the road running 'East-West' and crossing the railway tracks is a 'side-road'... This is inaccurate - IF You were correct, the solid white 'stop & give way' road markings would be across the 'road along which the disability scooter' was riding.
  2. The White line is a 'stop line'.... (with or without a sign)... the SUV was blowing through a junction it should have stopped at. What you are suggesting is that because 'other traffic' breaks the law, it makes the road behavior of the SUV legal - it does'n't... Because others also do it' is not a valid excuse for traffic blowing through junctions at speed where they are supposed to give way. The markings are clear..... In the GoogleMaps Images below - its can clearly be seen that the traffic running north-south and parallel to the railway lines in both directions has to stop and give way to the 'east-west' traffic crossing the junction. There is no 'solid white line' for the 'east-west' traffic, because that is the designated primary road.
  3. Is this a bias a prejudice against older disabled foreigners shining though ? How are they supposed to get around ?... If they want to live in Thailand, at some point they have little choice but to take a chance and ride their scooter on the road as the pavements are unnavigable.... In doing so, they take extra risk. I agree with you that if they are riding dangerously and carelessly they can be a nuisance, as can cyclists, pedestrians, motorcyclists etc... but it seems your bias has blinded you that this SUV driver shot through this junction at speed without any consideration for who may be crossing and thats fine becasue of your misunderstanding that the SUV was driving along the primary road - it may be a 'larger road with more lanes' but it was not a primary road as denoted by the road markings... The road the disability scooter was riding along is the primary road, the roadmarkings denote that the road running parallel to the railway tracks is the secondary road... In both directions, when the road meets a junction there is a solid white line which denotes a 'give way' point.... the SUV ignored this (and probably a lot of other drivers).
  4. He just makes it up to argue. Always for the farang. If it had of been an elderly swiss driver in the SUV and a Thai without a helmet on he would have been ranting on about the Thai. Predictable Nope, thats your usual halfwitted prejudice floating into the fray... Had the white SUV approached the junction a second later it would have taken out the motorcyclist instead. This is not a 'Farang-Thai' thing... and had the SUV driver been a Foreigner, my opinion would not change and I'd be accusing a 'forigner SUV driver' of being at fault. The SUV driver blasted through a junction at which the driver should have given way - nationality does not come into this, driving behaviour and disregard for road rules does. I agree that the Swiss-man on the disability scooter rode in a manner which shows a lack of regard for his own safety. The SUV driver drove in a manner which shows a lack of regard for anyone else's safety.
  5. I know who the idiot is. If he had of been wearing a helmet driving through an interesection in a country famous for its dangerous roads then he probably would now be at home with a few scratches instead a racking up a huge bill in a hospital ICU. I agree with you that the rider of the disability scooter approached and passed through this junction without the necessary concern or regard for his own safety. But, what a lot of posters are ignoring the road behavior of the SUV driver who blasted blindly through the junction and are implying the SUV driver is not at any fault. Note: the Grey sedan yielded... Why? because that is the road regulation when approaching a junction with a fixed white line. The SUV Blasted through the same junction at speed without any regard for the safety of others.
  6. SAFETY FIRST & You have birth assumed right of way because of ‘traffic behaviour’…. Road markings contradict this.
  7. Good info thx…. Would the white SUV still have blasted through the junction on ‘flashing yellow’ ???? Impossible to prove, easier to predict - The SUV was being driven in a manner which shows no regard for anyone else who may get in their way. I’ll concede that the disability scooter was being ridden in manner with complete disregard for one’s own safety.
  8. What does a fixed while line mean for you ?
  9. But does not contains markings to stop or give way at the junction, whereas the road the SUV was travelling along does. Yes, when road marking and lights instruct to do so., Agree…. Swiss guy was must certainly reckless…. As was the SUV driver… The difference being the SUV diver didn’t slow or give way. Would you travel through that junction just as the SUV driver did ? The grey sedan clearly knew to give way. That ‘poor woman’ in the SUV blew through a junction at speed - driving like that it was only a matter of time before she hit & killed someone. SUV driver needs to be held accountable. she sped though a bling cross roads at a point the road makings instruct her to yield. I don’t…. Do you drive like the SUV driver did ?
  10. Perhaps you could take a clue from the picture that shows the swiss guy is almost all the way through the intersection before the idiot hits him? Indeed.... Swiss-man already in the muddle of the junction before the SUV enters.
  11. This is a particularly odd statement from you... I understand you think the Swiss-man was reckless in not taking more caution when travelling across the intersection. However, you have completely omitted any comment on the MU-X SUV driver in his 2 tonne vehicle completely ignoring the junction and blowing across it with complete disregard for safety or consideration of anyone else. Your user name is 'Safety First'.... and while you accurately point a finger at the Swiss-man for his lack of safety consideration for his own wellbeing, you have completely ignored that the SUV driver is not only driving in a manner with is unsafe and reckless, but its also illegal.
  12. SF - That is not a 'side street'... as per the road markings and flashing red light (which I'm not sure was flashing at the time), its clear that the disability-scooter & Motorcyclists are the ones on the main thoroughfare and had a right of way.... The SUV should be yielding in exactly the same manner as the grey sedan. I just don't see how the behaviour of the SUV driver could be defended in anyway - he crossed the 'white line' at speed without yielding while another vehicle was on the junction. Have you looked at all the photos and video ? Its 100% clear that in blowing through the junction in the manner he did the SUV driver was driving illegally > Seeming speeding > Ignoring road markings > (Possibly) ignoring a red-flashing traffic light (which means stop and then enter according to right of way rules) ----------- I also get your point that with local knowledge cars ignore the traffic rules and some do not give way.... (the grey car gave way though). But, the SUV sped across a blind junction (blind from the left) at which road marking 'instruct' they must give way. I also agree the elderly Swiss guy was reckless in crossing a junction without greater caution, but the SUV was also completely reckless in crossing the junction in the manner he did. I agree that he was taking additional risk riding with-out helmet. I also agree that the Swiss-man placed himself at additional risk riding that disability scooter at what appears to be the same speed as those scooters riding around him. Here's the video again... Here's a photo of the junction again... swisscrash.mp4
  13. It appears that the Op wants to add his Wife as a named driver, not as the main policy holder... Or at least thats what I assumed what he means when he wrote below (adding - which is £25 to add my Wife to an existing policy) So, I'm guessing the Op has a car in the UK already (on which he has insurance)... and as he wrote my wife 'comes' to the UK, I assume the Op is currently in the UK and his Wife is in Thailand and visits for a couple of months every year. Its incredible how a lack of clarity in a Op can lead to such conflicting answers...
  14. @jimn - We do exactly this 2x per year. - Visit the UK - Wife as a named driver on one of my Parents Cars - *An IDP was not necessary (there is a dual agreement between Thailand and the UK and the Thai DL is in English) - A non-UK license holder can only be added to insurance for a fixed period (i.e. 10 days, 2 weeks, a month whatever you need etc) - It costs very little to add my Wife (the admin fee is often more - i.e. its less than £25 for 4 weeks). *others mentioned an IDP was asked for - no harm in getting one anyway.
  15. Kind of agree.... There's been a lot of whatifery... and I particularly agree with the comment about 'being prepared use physicallity to protect our child'.... I also agree that there could have been a lot more to the story than the short video highlights and we've been fed a 'trigger story' which would be far less interesting and generate far less debate once we learn more..... BUT... The guy was massive, there were no children around, she was no physical threat to him... In this very situation, the short video does not show any justifiable reason for the man to throw the woman to the floor like that.... It doesn't really appear that there is much to play 'devils advocate about'.... ---------- I was in a bar when a guy (Thai) punched a very attractive Waitress (Thai) in the face.... he got dropped pretty quickly... It turns out the waitress had been stringing him along for months, getting gifts, money etc... but strung him along too much and he snapped.... Once I knew of the back-story, part of me felt that 'she had it coming'... nevertheless, he punched her in the face and thats not acceptable anywhere (in that circumstance).....
  16. Agree. Also she mentioned only 20 day Samui then no firm plans other that more stays on islands. Very frustrating OP. Normally I would not care less however her situation it not as unusual as one would think. Very unhelpful op. As mentioned earlier - the Op (Mia @miaclarkson03) should have her answer by now (will she report back and thank those who gave good advice). As I see it. - Mia was issued a 30 Visa exempt - Mia is staying in Samui 20 days - Mia can go to Samui Immigration and see if they'll rectify the error (of Bangkok Airport Immigration). - If Samui will not rectify mistake Mia plans to move on (? - where) - Mia can go to the Immigration office at the new location (wherever she has moved onto after 20 days) and attempt to rectify the issue there. - If there is no solution at the 'new location' (wherever that is) she can get a 30 day extension - that screws up the longer term game-plan for her and her Boyfriend - but it keeps them in country legally.
  17. Again.... IF the area around your tank is dry... there is a leak elsewhere, on or under your property (foundations perhaps where the water pipe run underneath and then up into the property)..... When there is water (i.e. before the tank runs empty) - does the water pump run constantly ?
  18. Does it crackle when you walk across a nylon carpet ???? ⚡️⚡️⚡️
  19. This is as far as I got before my eye started watering over... just couldn't read any further... 🫣🍑🍆🩸🔥
  20. Ouch, Richard. Did your wife give you a bunch of grief this morning. You're usually much 'kinder'. 🤣 I left the Veet where the toothpaste belongs !!!...
  21. And then there is also this.... swisscrash.mp4
  22. After watching the video - the only thing I do have to say is that the Swiss man was riding at the same speeds as the motorcycles - he should have been wearing a helmet.... Its clear the SUV just blew it through the junction without a single care for anyone else at all.... - Particularly when he had a clear view of traffic from the right - And the view of any potential traffic from the left was blocked by the buildings
  23. First thing to check... Is the water pump running constantly ??? IF so.... its leaking somewhere (most likely under the house where you can't see it)... If not, perhaps the tank isn't getting replenished - then its a mains issue. Has your water bill gone up ?
  24. Unlikely because for those of us married and applying for the Yellow House Book our legal name written in Thai is also on our Thai Marriage Certificate, yet we are still required to obtain an MFA Verified translation of an Embassy Verified Copy of our Passport.
  25. The fixed while line indicates the SUV has to stop and yield for 'anything'.... The flashing red light (at that junction) also indicates the SUV has to stop and yield for 'anything'.... (although I can't be certain that the traffic light was flashing at that time). What is clear is that the SUV entered the junction without being prepared to stop or yield for anything.... It could have been a kid on a scooter, a pedestrian, a cyclist, a motorcyclist, a samlor, someone pushing a cart, another car.... a person on a mobility scooter.... It doesn't matter what it is.... IF there is something already in the junction the vehicle approaching (from the same direction as the SUV) has to stop. I truly hope you do not drive....
