Oh... I do say so... because when I speak with 'any other Thai' (wife, Wife's friends, Colleagues, people who live in HH etc)... about meeting at 'The Night Market' in Hua Hin... this is the one. There are of course other markets in different locations that are also on in the evenings... but then they require an 'additional descriptor' so that the differentiation is obvious... such as... - Cicada Market - Tamarind Market - Sam Phan Nam Floating Market - Chatchai Market - The Grand Night Market - Pae Mai Market - Saphan Pla Walking Market - Huana Market Only one market is referred to by all as the Hua Hin Night Market..

Foreigner condemned for driving car on Kamala Beach in Phuket
richard_smith237 replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Outside of the media outlets trying to bait and trigger people in to cliking the story.... the issue is still that a complete moron was driving on a beach in an area where people are resting, kids are playing and theoretically safe from these di<kheads.... Driver needs a serious fine - whatever his nationality. -
Washed UK Passport
richard_smith237 replied to sitesurf's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
OK... if I'm not mistaken, your options are: 1) Obtain an emergency travel document to return to the UK 2) Obtain a new Passport in the UK (Fast track service possible) 3) Obtain new Visa & Return to Thailand (you've lost your previous extensions) OR... Do not travel.... 4) Obtain replacement Passport in Thailand (can take up to 8 weeks) 5) Transfer extension of stay into new Passport -------- I recall doing the same thing about 20 years ago. I'd got in very late from travelling from overseas for work. A few days later the maid knocked on my door, very sheepish look - soggy passport in hand (not her fault). I called up the Embassy help line and was met with the response "Oh, why is it always the boys who do this?"... I then realised it was not uncommon and had my passport replaced within a few weeks (much quicker to replace a passport in those days). -
If ever anyone was capable of repeatedly reaffirming the obvious flaws in their character it has to be the poster above.... This time his despicable comment removes any doubt for anyone sitting on the fence.

In that case it could be argued that there are 10's... 100's of them around Hua Hin and Cha-am... When someone is referring to the 'Hua Hin Night Market'.... there is one obvious market everyone means. It's what all the Thai's call the Hua Hin Night Market without any other need for a description or directions. The Hua Hin Night Market Opens at 6pm (theoretically - realistically its open a little earlier) and all the way up Hua Hin Soi 72.

Yes,.... Its on every night (or has been every time we visit Hua Hin) Parking is difficult... We usually just take a tuk-tuk from our accommodation if not too far away. We are sometimes able to find parking up by the railway tracks...

Washed UK Passport
richard_smith237 replied to sitesurf's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
How long do you have before you are expected to travel out of Thailand... An Emergency Travel Document may well be your only solution because... a) Your visa may expire before you can receive a renewed passport. OR... IF you are holding an extension of stay etc... they could apply for a new passport. The key question is - What is your current 'permission to remain' in Thailand (i.e. what visa or extension are you on and when does it expire ?) -
All supermarkets world-wide.... 'could' employ a night shift..... Not hard to figure out. Think about it. In fact a lot of them do.... its quite likely that plenty of Thai supermarkets also re-stock larger main items throughout the night too... we just haven't noticed it - because, why would we ??? ever been to a supermarket at 3am ?
-
Send your wife for shipping. Easy. No need to go that far.... Online shopping in most area's of Thailand is very efficient and reliable these days (although the tops Website did recently go down). The point is a valid one.... Wherever we are, in a supermarket, shop, side-walk, car park, trying to cross a road etc.... there should be ample room for anyone to easily pass (i.e. a wheel-chair or a pushchair etc)..... And a lot of 'Thailand' does exist in some sort of parallel world which is oblivious to the needs of disabled people - but it is slowly getting better. I just find the 'shelf re-stacking' example a flawed example of this as the opening post and many follow up comments are carrying the fundamentally flawed criticism that this 'shelf stacking in the day time' is only a Thai thing.

Driver Severely Injured after Pickup Truck Crash in Thalang
richard_smith237 replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Odds on favourite for... .... No Seatbelt .... Had just left a bar .... At least double the DUI Limit .... Speeding No report that the driver underwent a DUI check / breath test - but that really should be automatic after any incident, no matter the time of day. -
Op.. As you are a 'serious expert on burgers of all variations'.... I'd recommend you give 'Easy Burger' a try.... Opposite Cheap Charlies at On Nut (Sukhumvit 50). (I think they just opened a new Branch in Phrom Pong too) IMO - thats the best burger I've had in Bangkok. The next best Burger I've had is in Japan.

Yeah... 'It would be too easy... and even dumba$$ stupid Thai's are incapable of doing easy things' ..... right ?????? It is this element of Thai-bashing that I'm trying to highlight in this thread - some of you guys are racist bigots, though you'd never admit it because you think you are making critical observations when really you are masked by a myopic bias.

Plenty of road work is carried out at night. Perhaps not out in the countryside.... but in major cities that are incredibly busy in the day time and evenings major road works are carried out at night... If you regularly drive around the city, particularly Bangkok, in the early hours (i.e. after 2am) you'll see those massive concrete slabs lifted out of the way for subterranean work to be carried out... usually related to some form of either water works, or BTS / MRT line construction.

Covered below - If you're going to levy criticsm, be fair and accurate with it, otherwise it is a Thai-Bash. There is very little doubt that criticism of traffic behavior, traffic conditions and road safety in Thailand is warranted and fair criticism... its quite different from having a whinge about stocking supermarket shelves in the day time that happens world wide. If you can't recongise that... again... put that head out of your....

Thats a fair point, a lack of consideration for those in Wheel chairs is an aspect of Thailand that I would consider different (worse) to that in many of our home countries. But, are the isles not also partially blocked when re-stocking shelves in the day time in the Supermarkets in other countries (i.e. UK & US)... This is the point I am contesting - it seems Thailand has been singled out for doing the same thing that exists in other nations. I recall not being able to get a push-chair down a Sainsbury's aisle because there was a large 'cage' blocking the way while staff were replenishing the shelves.... .... But go to a supermarket in the weekday day time in the UK and see all the blue-rinses leaving their trollies abandoned in the middle of the aisles while they have a gossip >> I'm more sympathetic to the ppl doing their jobs. The reality remains - while this happens in Thailand, its not an issue that exists solely in Thailand as indicated by some in their 'want' for a dig a the Thai's.... I get it, familiarity breeds contempt, but be accurate and fair when levying criticism.

Passenger charges soar at six major Thai airports
richard_smith237 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
We're not permitted to use the term klik-ba!t anymore..... although this is exactly what a lot of articles are these days. Its an insult to the reader - just place an accurate and informative headline rather than this inflammatory, attention seeking blurb designed to trigger a knee-jerk response. -

Exactly, the pathetic exaggeration of the headline dilutes the integrity of the article to such a degree it becomes nothing more than trashy tabloid standard news. -
Washed UK Passport
richard_smith237 replied to sitesurf's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Options: IF your ID page is clearly visible you can get a replacement passport- that takes time. OR… get an Emergency travel document (if planning on flying directly home). If the ink hasn’t run that badly & the ID page is fine, if you are flying direct to the UK from Thailand it’s possible you’ll get away with it (blame Songkran !)… risky though. If you are still here for a couple of months, safe option is a new passport. -
Question for English Teachers
richard_smith237 replied to saintdomingo's topic in Teaching in Thailand Forum
Valid point, on an informal forum such as this, I space out phrase, & use symbols, over-space paragraphs etc… … all with the aim of achieving improved optics from the perspective of readability…. Dealing with your specific point in hand ‘should of’… … that’s nothing more than ‘socio-phonetics’…. while still getting a clear message across the language/ quality of writing used by many outlines their level of education or that they may not be a native English speaker. If the author of a comment gets the message across it matters little, until they go grammar nazi & make their own mistakes which is always amusing. -

in what way? Might actually need an English teacher himself! -
I figured a thread full of dumbed down one liners would make him happier....
