  2. ALL the hospitals ask for someone to be with you while in hospital, here in thailand,my son was born at Q/SIRA,my wife and daughter, have stayed their as wel....the private rooms are big and nice .not the bkk pat, hosp, rooms but good,i think there are 2 standards for private, yes it has markets [weds] resturants, coffee, shops, mart, it is govt navy run so they take lunch breaks,,weekends off, etc,I always tell the mrs if something happens to me throw me in the car and get me to Q.S as quick a poss,it has intensive care and caters for hearts att/strokes.the only other hospital in pattaya for that is BKK PAT/H.and if u dont have your visa or insured they will kick u out.

the staff there at Q.S are great too..good luck

  4. Good to hear the owner has contacted the police. I must of course give credit to the Thai cycling community for the success in pressuring the police to work on the case. They have set up a fund to reward police for the capture of the thieves, seems to have worked!

    11070.jpg

Here is the thread where they have opened up contributions for to reward in the capture of the said thieves. I live in Chiang Mai, but I put in 300 baht. Some groups have donated 10,000 for the capture. Seems the police are gonna have one nice paycheck for this capture! biggrin.png

thats my frfend pointing buts thats not his bike must have done a promo shot,,he said the long haired one got away,he said a mechanic working on the ring leaders bike knew of what was going on and reported it to the cops, the reason he kept it [gaint] was to swap parts to his bike.he picks his bike up today.there were many who were attacked, including 2 french men who fought them off, there mistake was they attacked thais who as mention did a fantastic job getting the word out .,the ring leader got caught 1st then gave them up as usual,

In the 9 yrs i have lived and raced here in thailand the cycling community are the nicest and most helpfull people i have met here.

i noticed in the pattaya one link, another friend pointing,i'll see him later. i go back to oz to live in 3 weeks and will miss the off rd rides here and the way the cars give u a wide berth ,in sydney they run you off the rd ,or open their doors in front of you,you rarley see that here.

i am taking 2 mountain bukes back, but am selling my daughters kona m/bike and my gitane 7005,road bike 12 yrs old if anyone interested PM me.

    have fun riding ..cat

  5. This is a picture of the ring leader, getting ready for a group ride somewhere in Chonburi, he's more likely to have been riding around with the group to stake out the bikes. Police have mentioned that they know who is the trader that purchases these stolen bikes and they are in the process of capturing him/her.

  6. ..Cat...wow!

When did this happen? What general date?

I have ridden that route past Phoenix Golf between Sukhumvit (#3) and Hwy #331 many times.

Mostly at night, as in 2-4am.

    Never during the day.

Egads...........Many kon Tai have warned me that this happens to one if they pedal up in Isaan on the back routes.

    Dunno.....?

.... it was about a month ago,at that time of morning 2 to 4am they are probaly asleep and drunk from the money they got for the bikes,i would be.

    .

In 9 yrs riding here the only thing that happen to me was when i got a flat near siam golf course, while fixing it a really dark skined thai came from the bush walks past me stops behind a bush 3 mts away digs a hole pulls a knife out stands there watching while i fixed the punture,,so i pulled half a brick size rock next to me,one eye on him and kept fixing it,[no one around] he just stood there staring at me with the knife in his hands, and i dont think he was there to help me...my idea was if he came at me fend him off with the wheel and hit him with the rock and hope for the best,i never took my eye of him, lucky it was front wheel,i wacked it in when fixed and took of.he may have thought i would get scared and leave ,but fuc_k him he was'nt getting my bike.

except for the snakes and running into the thai's out shooting for birds with their long muskets [when off rd] apart from that thailand has been great.

    happy riding.cat

  7. My friend in my village had his bike stolen [new giant road bike] used for tri's he turned off phonenix golf course rd,going out to the hiils,he sense the motorbike around him, they passed him waited at the bottom of the hill, ran out in front of him when he got close,he fell backwards as the guy came at him with a long club, they bashed his legs,[big lumps] pick the bike up and took off on the bike ,when he went back to chonburi to buy another bike the guy said this has happened before,he reported it,he said it was a fino brown, missed the number,he said he's sure they followed him through hua hai.

he's in koh samui this week doing adventure race ,so he is ok.

  8. They want to make sure u are coming back to thailand ,4 and 5 yes,as the wife has to show a reason to come back for a tourist visa, normaly a letter from her work,if you do a stat deck that should be enough, you will have to obtain a KOR 4 letter, from the local amphur which states from at least 3 family members or friends that the husband is dead and she has sole custody,[all has to be translated] what ever u do for this keep for the spouse [later]

the rest is just where u staying and you have enough money to look after them.

  9. Agree. Send it post 10kg SAL Bt1,910 / Air Bt3,900 / EMS Bt4,660 - 15kg SAL Bt2,610 / Air Bt5,650 / EMS Bt6,560. Tracking included on air items over 2kg but it's nothing like FedEx tracking. Just lets you know when it got to Swampy and was processed there. No problems with losses. We ship 100s of packages, all registered mail though, and haven't had a single issue.

I am in the same spot trying to decide post or ,ship, probaly post ,but try,,, innovative logistics google it ,phone 0863401678/9 ....it came up on google TNT seemed best 5500bt for 25 to 30 kilos to perth.
  10. THE,MRS got phone call today form case officer ,saying all approved ,wife, stepdaughter, and nephew,,take passports i friday to get visa;s from 22/2/12 till now.easyerly if you do your home work and help from,thai,V/F,.thanks all.....cat.

  11. Its A 2 horse race, being an ozzie i'd love to see cadel win again, and maybe he will, wiggins will always beat cadel in a time trial,so the only way cadel will beat him is to get time on him in the mountains, wiggins has a team to kill for,and unless he carnt keep pace on a bad stage with his team the race is his,but as we know it is the tour anything can happen, for mine frome, is a super star in the making, when have u ever seen ,3 non euros capable of winning grand tours,[cadel wiggins, and ryder, great to see.and cavendish [WHO] AS a contenter, have another beer.GO CADEL

  12. Mission complete....

Very well organized event today in Surat, over 1100 entries so pretty big. The organizers did a fantastic job. Food and drinks were great.

I had a target time of 2.30 and managed 2.15 at 28kph average, so pretty happy. The difference between the fit riders and the average (me) was very noticeable but I had an awesome time riding in some groups and hope to be able to keep it up and enter some more in the near future.

    Thanks to everyone

good on ya cornish,as you get fitter u get more confident ,so go for it ,our 60k's was flat as,,road bikes went 1st,, 2 min,, then mtb,it was only a time limit ride, try to do under 2.1/2 hrs for the 60 ks,i did 1.hr 40,and it was good to ride in a bunch again after riding alone for so long...mtb caught many road bikes, which is only fitness and of course age, so keep going mate, when u get fit enough to complete well in age groups,u feel great.

  13. In USA, cable channel #36, the Versus Channel ....

The only (Free) channel in Thailand I think that transmits the live coverage is Euro Sport.

in pattaya its euro normaly the channel after oz network.

cadel will have to ride away from wiggins in the mountains, he is too strong in the time trials, cadel seems confident, wiggins is climbing well, but the tour is a different story, anything can happen in the tour,so stay safe cadel and kick ass....cat

  14. I should have added in the above post that the child is currently in Australia with the parents on a Tourist Visa which does 'not' have the "No Further Stay" endorsment.

So I guess they have a choice as to where the eventual visa is processed? So it really comes down to if it can be done in Thailand at a $1000 less!

And if the child comes back to thailand fish, what about the plane fare, evens out,try the bridging visa,my mate did it with his mrs ,not sure if same thing,

but doing from oz cost him less in the long run.

  15. Hi All,

Just a further question about the certification of my Fiancees personnal documents. She had them translated and certified by a company in Udon Thani and I think they are correct from my interpretation of the immi handbook and guidlines.

They are stamped in red, the LHS has a round seal with SECRETARIATE SERVICES AGENCY on the top , a coat of arms in the middle and something written in Thai on the bottom. The RHS has a line of Thai followed by, Certifie3d Correct Translation, I hereby certify as requested that this is a true copy ( transcript ) of the original document presented to me, SECRETARIATE SERVICES AGENCY. It then has two signatures followed by DR Chuck Srisarannon 081-5927202.

All except the signatures are a red stamp.

This is the same as I have seen in another application. however someone mentioned the papers need to be stamped by Thai Govt in Babgkok. I can find no mention of this anywhere and in fact the handbook says the thai documents could be done in Australia.

Over to all you experienced people. Are the documents certified correctly for the visa application.

we are submitting next week in bangko9k so want to get it right first time.

    Thank you

    wazzi

    ,

To keep it as simple as possible, any documents brought from oz the copys of the originals should have been certified by JP,or someone on the list.from oz,if not done in oz,you then will have to find a JP here,or an ozzy from the list.[its like finding a hens tooth].

otherwise it will cost u to have them certified at embassy.

some copys of originals not sign or certified will be stamped when you put in the application,as long as they see the originals,so take all originals.

the translated thai to english done in thailand, will have a stamp on the bottom of the translation with the agency's address and phone.

    that is all, u need.

  16. I was told it is cheapest to do the visa there but pay for it here. However as I don't live near a capital it is not possible for me to do so we are paying the extra 5000 baht. There is some things cheaper in Australia you can do for example to certify a document in Australia is free in thailand it costs money.

i paid 65,000bt,plus 1,700bt [cash] fot the app to be processed at the counter,at the VFS,bkk, its on the reciept

  17. 80-100 km !!!

I only bought the bike less than 2 weeks ago...

Did take the advice though and managed my 1st 2hr ride this morning, just under 50km.

Felt pretty good on the bike comfort wise, butt was screaming after an hour though seemed to ease off with some shifting around.

Not sure that the knobby tires are much good on the tarmac, good for a leg burn but could do with some suggestions as to what to put on for mixed riding ? Bit limited in choice at my local shop but they do have Schawble Sammy Slicks, bit pricey though..

Anyway, back to the grind... Looking fwd to the 8th :)

Just do the race with what u have on the bike, losing weight through longer ride's will do more for u than the tires at this stage of your career, slicks will give u a smooter ride, but wont win a race for u,fill em up to 50psi,[knobbys]at least for the road,i ride 40 to 45 off rd,

as a good old coach said to me,after i asked him how do i get better on the bike,do the miles son do the miles, confidance and power and winning come later.

and if you havent ridden in a bunch before, its scary.

    good luck...cat

  18. First of all make sure that you are comfortable on your bike and that it is setup right for you.

Eat plenty of high carb food the night before your ride and take at least a couple of decent sized drinking bottles with you on the day.

I would try at get at least one 2-3 hour ride per week in to see how that sort of distance feels and to build up some endurance.

If you are looking for a quick time try a little interval training or a shorter but quicker ride than normal once or twice a week.

Allow yourself some recovery time if you feel that you have put in a hard ride.

Hope you have a great time.

Sent from my GT-I9003 using Thaivisa Connect App

GOOD advice,as thats whats i am doing, you must get at least 1, 80 to 100k ride in a week, you have to do interval work and hill sprints, otherwise they will leave you behind on the small or bigger rises as they always take off on them, to get rid of the unfit, dont stay at the back of the pack, middle to front,if you are confident, otherwise,do it for the fun and experience.

I am doing the other road race at SAMUT PRAKAN,bang na,july 8,same day.

MTB 40KS,FIXED GEAR,40KS,ROAD 60KS,DONT KNOW HOW TO PUT THE SITE ON ,goggle bicycle thailand events.

i am doing the MTB event, they say entry form must be in by june 30,hope they have over 60s but will proberly be over 50s.

last road race i did like this was 5yrs ago and the bloke who beat me looked 35 and was 35 and so was his girlfriend,i coped it ,this is thailand.
