  1. The water tasted weirdly salty when this happened last year. Then I read in the newspaper about the sea water getting into the water supply and realized why. I could certainly do without a repeat of that. It's tolerable, but it's pretty unpleasant to drink.

Normal filters won't get the salt taste out, the filter has to be capable of desalination.

You drink tap water in Thailand ?

The water will taste salty even if you use a filter, unless your have a filter capable of desalination (not likely).

But yes, I drink the water straight out of the tap. As far as microbes go, it is fine. At least in Bangkok, anyway. I drink it all over the city, so it's not just my area. I never got sick, not even once (I don't have a super intestine). I think we have prejudices about alot of things, and one of those believes is about the filth of the water here.

I can't say anything about other additives in the tap water such as BPs, etc., but you won't get any digestive problems from drinking the water, even if the salt water gets into the system again as the OP describes (but it will taste unpleasant).

Firsthand proof that the water won't make your poop soupy:

This proves that the more you drink it, the longer it takes to poop and the crazier you get. Besides that, it tastes like CRAP haha

  2. Sea water is threatening the source of tap water

BANGKOK: Bangkokians will have to consume brackish water in February and March because all former governments did ignore the problem of the invasion of seawater into the Chao Phraya and Tha Chin rivers.

This is how it should read like.

But "Environment" is an unknown word for most Thais ... and thus for most government members.

Instead of the standard Thai-bashing we should applaud, that they recognize the problem and intend to do something about it before it is too late!!

It is indeed a very serious problem with dire consequences, if not addressed in time!!

It is too little, too late already mate!

  3. If journalists are serious about defending freedom of expression they should assert that freedom by publishing Charlie Hebdo cartoons, each and every newspaper should do this. Talk is cheap and to give up the right to offend and be offended only encourages the militants to make even more demands. The law abiding Muslims mentioned in the OP could exercise their democratic right to peaceful protest if they chose to.

I think that if you have the right to offend me, and do this ongoing, then I should also have the right to get your azs wiped.

  4. whistling.gif Oh good, the childish politicians are acting like the spoiled children they are again.

That ought to push the Baht/Dollar rate higher.

As long as those childish politicians squabble, a lower Baht means I get more Baht each month for my Dollar denominated pension.

    "Good on you", political fools.

Not sure if you are talking about another pending US government shutdown or are referring to the EC story.
  5. I'd imagine people would cross the road to avoid the OP.......everything else is merely his imagination.

Now he's back on the Gold Coast 'hangin' with his bros & lookin sick all the Thai stuff is irrelevant.

Pffffftttttt no way mate i now live in auckland nz and Realised i no longer need to goto pattaya to pick up middle aged thai women as there is enuff promiscous 40 something cambo and thai women in my area less the risk of an embarrasing trip to the countless vd clinics available .

What a pity the country lost another quality tourist! On the other hand, good riddance.

  6. "We get all the risk," he said, "while the oil companies will reap all the rewards."

    Bull pucky.

This will improve the economies of Canada and the USA by creating new wealth and an enormous amount of good jobs. These oil and pipeline jobs pay very well for the people.

The jobs are building and then maintaining the pipeline, working in the oil fields as more oil is sold in Canada, enhancing and running the refineries...

And whoever said it would just be exported doesn't get it that it would be refined and then improve export numbers if not used in the US. There would be value added all along the way, and more shipping jobs. All are very good jobs.

Now we get to see who the real obstructionist is, Obama.

As always it will only benefit Big Oil. Sure, some jobs will be created, but the overall impact on the people will again, just as with fracking, be a negative one, with detrimental effects on health and life style. Moreover, the sand in this oil wears the pipeline thin very quickly, and oil spills from ruptured pipes are bound to happen, as the oil companies prefer to ignore the inevitable by turning off the "pigs" that are required to inspect the pipelines 24/7. Paying a relatively minor fine in case of a spill beats expensive maintenance.

Profits before people as usual, and members of Congress or The House are not insensitive to incentives. Many representatives would financially benefit from voting 'Yes'.

  7. Perhaps invest in a SOHO NAS device and buy google drive as an off-site backup in case your NAS fails.

A 4 disk Raid6 setup would serve you well. Google drive is very very fast in Thailand and you can backup your files automatically from your NAS.

Buy a Synology DS414J and 4x 1TB WD RED Drives and choose raid6 for data protection.

That's impossible! Thailand does not have this kind of advanced technology! At least according to yourself, they are not smart enough to be able to offer reliable technologically challenging services.

  8. Maybe that 300 baht a day income is getting to high and the Thai's need to find a cheaper labor force. On another note, I really can't come up with a plausible reason for Thailand to have any relations with North Korea. facepalm.gif

Try nuclear technology and rocket technology. Thailand announced the other day it wants to become the NASA of the East or something along those lines.

  9. No, No, please No......I don't want to hear about this.

General, come to your senses.......this is not a country to have any relations with.

    post-226746-0-03087900-1420719746_thumb.

They have had close relations for the last 40 years, as reported.

Trivia: Which of the three terrorist states are the worst, put them in the right order like d,f,e,g

    a The US

    b Israel

    c UK

    d North Korea

Tip: a, b and c all use drones to kill innocent women and children

  10. When will they ever learn??

Let the market decide the prices without government interventions!!

    Only patch-work anyway!!

Just look at Singapore and Hong Kong what detrimental effect that would have on lower household incomes.

    post-226746-0-04083500-1420719142_thumb.

Welcome to Hong Kong. Have a seat! Or better yet, sit on the floor in front of my cage.
