  1. Just apply citronella spray or lotion, it'll keep them away, they hate the smell, or what the Thais do is, they take the plant, which is here called Tá Krai - which is lemongrass from which in turn citronella is made -and boil it, then leave the pot where it is most needed, let's say in your bedroom.

First thing thought you should do at least every 7 days, is get rid of all standing water in the house, including the bathroom. That means also the water you use to bathe. This will assure the mosquito larvae will not mature, as there cycle is around 7 days.

  2. As long as you can show 10,000 baht in cash and other proof that you are not working here they do not have any basis for denying entry. There is no police order, regulation or rule that limits the number of visa exempt entries or the number of days on them.

They can only deny entry under section 12 of the immigration act for not having financial proof and/or under suspicion of working here.

How can you prove that you are not working here? How is that provable?

  3. There are different kinds of asbestos, and the white variation used here is only dangerous for those who work with it for years, without taking precautionary measures. For those who live under asbestos containing roofs, there is no danger, and if you are exposed to the dust for a short period or two there really nothing to worry about either. I remember we played with the stuff when we were kids, and when the asbestos hysteria hadn't set in yet, and I have had no negative effects from it.

Blue asbestos is very dangerous, and has long been banned in Thailand.

  4. "one vehicle suddenly cutting in front of another at 25 per cent."

Nuff said, this happens year round. It's like some virus takes over driver's brains and forces them to do it, can't fight the urge. Like rats that can't resist the smell of cat pee, because their brains have been affected by that cat virus that makes them love it, instead of seeing it as a red flag.

  5. JT

But -- he is DA MA-YAH. Respect the offuz if not da man! I think the cop's behavior in turning their backs is despicable.

    There JT goes again.

Do you know any police officers? Any police officers among your circle of friends?

A retired black cop from Baltimore, a friend that I met here in Thailand, is a good example.

His main concern is making sure he lives safely here, understandable considering the moments of sheer terror you would encounter in that career.

The mayor deserved that show of disrespect. Police officers are citizens too, have the right to peaceably assemble and express their views.

These officers have no shame. It's a brazen act of disrespect toward their colleague to do this at his funeral. Period. There's no excuse for this unacceptable behavior and they all should be suspended for a few weeks without pay.
  6. "Thailand received full score on entertainment and amenity," ---

Thailand gets next to no international shows, has no major sporting events (Takraw doesn't count), hardly any non-thai musicians who aren't a decade past their peak come to play here, has no worthy musuems or libraries or art galleries, fewer recreational venues than other countries..... yet it still gets full score?

I guess if your definition of "entertainment" is limited to shopping, drinkiing in bars and hiring prostitutes.

Sure there is worse places to live, but seriously maybe some "expats" could enlighten me what constitutes entertainment for old folk in Thailand? Sitting in traffic? Evening Aerobics in the Big C parking lot?

I advise you to get out of the house more often, and by the way, visiting libraries and museums has little to do with entertainment, soapies are more like it!

  7. When and if one of those plane will crush after sucking this stuff into the engine, there will

be no need to recover the black boxes... only in this country those shenanigans allowed

to happened under the fight path... great...

Thai cultural festivities should be allowed to go ahead no matter what, but corporate interests go before people, and their traditional cultural heritage. let the people do what they have done for ages, and meanwhile keep the planes grounded for a few hours.

  8. It's ignorant to think that an artificial state can keep on existing. I am not anti Jewish or anti-Semitic, but sooner or later we will have to face the facts, which is that Israel in its current manifestation largely consists of stolen Palestinian land. Furthermore, it is a fallacy to think this little pimple on the face of the Earth is of any significance. We are fooling ourselves to think that Israel has any significance in the world when China, India and the rest of Asia dominate the world. We might still think it does, but in reality people and places most of the people in the West have never heard of, already dominate the global economy, and they have no consideration whatsoever with our strange obsession with a - in their mind - irrelevant, shoebox sized, barren piece of land deprived of valuable resources.

There are millions of people who are Israeli citizens, the majority are Jews. Israel matters and it is not artificial. It's as "REAL" as whatever state you are from, big or small but it is likely to be in more peril. Israeli state was created via the U.N. fully legally. It was not stolen land. Yes there are disputed borders. A lot of countries have disputed borders.

Well, according to the same UN, most of it is stolen land.

  9. Post back if you figure out how to make it work without drenched pants or real smelly fingers.

I've concluded that (in spite of hundreds of posts to the contrary), bum guns are a simple acknowledgement that toilet paper costs money and water doesn't

Sounds like you're doing it wrong, you are turning the water on before you wipe

Nope. This qualifies as TMI, but I just take a shower each time.

    Win-win in the BKK heat.

Yes, it is best to combine the two daily needs, but be sure to do it in the right order, shower first! haha

  10. There is no rule, law or regulation against doing multiple tourist visa entries. The only way they can deny entry is for lack of financial proof and/or being suspected of working here or some other infraction listed in the immigration act.

Getting the visa depends entirely on where you apply. You could eventually reach a limit that the embassy or consulate has set for doing them back to back. Going to different locations for them can avoid reaching that point.

So it is not set in stone that alternating between consulates would avoid reaching a limit, as you suggested in earlier comments on other threads? By the way, Happy New Year UJ!

  11. Kim said he sees no reason why there should not be a summit with South Korean President Park Geun-hye or high-level talks if Seoul sincerely wants better ties.

Unbelievable! As if North Korea has better ties than what's available in Seoul. Seoul has magnitudes of fashion shops where one can choose from all the designers around the world! Hah, it's Kim who is desperate for a better tie and he is pretending it's Seoul...what a child. On the other hand, the 'summit' suggestion to find a tie that suits the haircut is the way to go. tongue.png

North Korean ties could be the next big thing, if this goes ahead!

  12. And who is calling the kettle black as usual? Some US based organization? Again, let's face it, the US has a lot to answer for, I refer everyone here who is addicted to Thai bashing, especially those from countries that condone torture, and have killed hundreds of thousands of innocent civilizations over the past decade - the US and the UK, to the UN report on human rights abuses in the US, as well as the CIA's own report regarding their "enhanced interrogation techniques", in other words, torture plain and simple.
