  1. AIS have a deal where you get 4.5GB data and a pile of call time and SMS for 400 Baht a month....just visit their shop and get it added!

Is there any deal for one month for only phone time as I don't use the internet at all on the phone?

Also, want to call Canada and Canada to call me, so was wondering the best overall one month deal

for Thailand calls and incoming and outgoing Canada calls?

  2. Have used those before but every time I put them in my pocket, they often start to dial lol. That's why I use the cheap flip phones.

Is that italk phone you posted a reliable one? When I use to travel to Vegas, some of the throwaway phones had audio so weak

that you not only could not hear a call come in on a busy street, but it was just as hard to hear anyone talk to you as well when they called.

  3. Anyone know where to purchase in Bangkok and how much three cheap flip type cell phones would cost us for about 3 weeks including some airtime for that period? Each of us want to carry one with us in case we lose each other in shopping malls, on the beach or whatever as well as in case of emergency etc. We want to be able to use it mostly to call each other as well as around Thailand not just locally, for example, I call my wife's family in Bangkok while I am in Chiang Mia etc etc.

  4. Thanks for your reply :) Have been in contact back and forth and her family is committed to taking care of her at home, which is what we had hoped for but not sure they could

do, so that seems to be the best right now. Thanks for letting us know that there really isn't any good terminally ill care places around as we never knew that. We saw a show here on tv awhile back showing great elderly care in Chiang Mai, but now that I think of it, it was probably for the disabled and elderly with dementia rather than the terminally ill. It looked fantastic with parks and everything else one could wish for and I think it was run by a Swiss group. Hospital treating my wife's sister is the Rajavithi Hospital next to Victory Monument.

  5. My Sister in Law has stage-4 cancer and since my Wife and I live on the other side of the world, we want to help her family by providing a nice

care home her. Any suggestions, costs etc for something nice near Victory Monument in Bangkok so her family can easily visit her? Somewhere where she would be treated with dignity, food prepared for, maybe a nice garden in house, things like that would be nice.

  6. After Greek elections on Jan 25, 2015, it could be another huge slide for the euro again and huge win for the USD by the end of 2015. If greece eventually moves out of the euro, guess what italy and spain are going to do?

Getting out of the Euro is not that simple,it would be like trying to get the milk back out of your coffee, it was designed that way on purpose.

That's true, but remember, one side of my family is Greek and I know how they think laugh.png If anyone will exit the euro do or die, it will be the Greeks. They feel in WW2 that the Germans stole mass fortunes from them, so they've always had a little payback in their hearts from what I hear. I still say it's only a 50/50 chance it will happen, but it would be interesting if it moves in that direction.

  7. First rule in any country is "never" use a financial advisor. Your supposed to be using your own smarts to invest, no let someone who has zero interest in you invest your hard earned money. I can't tell you how many people I know that have lost their life savings and how many have been scammed in the west alone. Each and everyone of them used a financial advisor.

In 2008 every bank in our city reshuffled their financial advisors to other towns so that everyone was left in the dark when asking "what happened to my money". It is standard practice.

You may have to learn to live with that you could be wrong. High unemployment and debt can move the will of the people to find alternative ways to restore balance and one way is canceling debt, moving on and hoping for the best. Not sure about Italy, but if Greece goes, Spain will very motivated as well.

    My response

I don't think it will happen. I may have to live with being wrong but I really doubt it.

    Time will tell though.

I predict currencies as a hobby and not so good at it either, but around 75% accurate so I try to hear what the locals are saying to use that as part of the framework to see where the swings will go. Many Greeks are in a very desperate, seemingly hopeless position at the moment. They are deeply frustrated to a point I have never seen since WW2, so you just never know. My guess is the chances are good that Greece exits with others to follow.

What they think is an exit door is a window in a hi-rise building.

Possibly, but I can think of many big lenders that would be waiting at their doorstep if they do exit.

Greece won't move out of the euro. Neither will Spain or Italy.

I know its the New Year and all that, but really doomsday predictions?

No, not doomsday at all but an opportunity for buying USD's. If the new party wins in Greece, they want to write off a lot of the debt whether Brussels agrees with this or not and a 50/50 chance they opt out of the eurozone. At 25% unemployment, they have much of population with them this time around.

    It won't happen.

We'll see. Abandoning the euro and restoring the drachma is their only way out. The proportional default guarantees would be unpayable by the remaining PIIGS and the biggest loser will be Germany as it all flies apart. It will be interesting to see what the IMF et al do next to forestall the inevitable. The Germans should actually leave first but it's politically impossible for them.

No ones leaving. Too much at stake. It's here to stay. Learn to live with it.

I have so many greek relatives still living in greece. What they tell me is that most greeks don't want to exit the eurozone, but feel it must be done to get their country back on track again. Never say never. Many countries could get out of debt simply by manipulating their currencies. When they joined the euro they could not do that anymore, so there is a good chance that not only greece, but spain and italy see this as a way out of their problems.

  13. Got to feel for the family. Seems the father is having a very difficult time accepting the deaths and the fact he may never get a conclusive answer is not going to help.

Though am confused by a few statements including how police couldn't identify them as their names were made publicly very soon after their deaths and before they got sent back to Canada. This like many stories has also had so much BS speculation posted too which certainly doesn't help him --- I actually recall reports that said they (Thai & Canadian) authorities determined the cause of death to be insecticide poisoning. Then there was also the reports of the foreigner who escorted them to the room that night --- did they ever have police in his home country question this guy?

I remember seeing a report on Canadian TV and the evidence seemed very convincing that it was insecticide poisoning. If I remember well, in many countries this insecticide is only for licensed use, but many break the rules and if you are unlucky to come in contact with the fumes that have not yet been vented out, you start to turn blue from depletion of oxygen which I think is what happened in this case. There were other reports that it was mixed in their drinks. Either way, I'm so sorry for their parents and wish them well.

  14. Thanks for that info! I already feel better knowing where the markets are and so on. Really appreciate your help on this.

Is it normal to have a fridge in the chalet-style bungalows? As for houses, I have never been to Chao Lao and just thought

there would be a mass amount of houses behind the beach with many owners eager to rent them. I need to tell everyone

that it's probably going to be a room with washroom so they know from now.
