  1. One would think that these 'transfers' are related to ongoing junta activities to root out corruption and/or mob activities. If Article 44 can be used to 'transfer' persons under investigation for illegal activities, it would be a better use of the immense power that the junta holds to 'suspend' such persons pending final investigation for their alleged wrongdoing. It would appear that in many cases that government officials involved in alleged corruption are given a 'free pass' while ordinary citizens who do nothing more that engage in vocal criticism of the junta are now threatened with 're-education' camps. How can activities that only bruise egos be compared to corruptions that goes to the very fabric for the junta's existence? There has to be a rational approach to addressing corruption and balancing basic freedoms.

Transfer to inactive position and suspension is the same thing. Only if you are suspended you can sit at home and collect your paycheck whereas being transferred you clock in every day and do nothing. Which sounds like a worse punishment to you?

  2. If this had happened in America she would be in jail now,and for a loooooooooooooong time. This would be automobile homicide and with nine people dead she would that would be a (like I sead before) a very long time in the state prison.

Doubt it. The number of people killed isn't that relevant. The intent/negligence doesn't really change based on how many people were in the vehicle you crashed into. All the examples I can find of rich people sentenced to vehicular homicide got 1-2 years. And they were adults. A rich kid would get a stint in a juve center that was more like a resort. Or more likely they'd claim they had some addiction or other so end up in a 5 star treatment facility.

  3. The key word is 'hopefully.' We don't really know, with Trump. For starters, everything and everyone for him is either wonderful or horrible. ...and it can flip or flop hours or days later. He either loves you or hates you. To him, America is either in the dumps or the greatest country, depending on his mood. At least the other candidates, even Cruz, are rather consistent in their opinions and views. Trump is like a 14 yr old FB girl who categorizes everyone in her life as someone she either loves or hates, and that can change with a glance.

Clinton is not more Hawkish. Who spoke about carpet bombing M.East towns and killing terrorists' families and committing torture a lot worse than waterboarding? In contrast, Clinton knows about foreign affairs, knows foreign leaders, and knows about laws (she's a lawyer and knows that torture is illegal as is killing families of terrorists). Clinton is also cool-headed, as opposed to the quick-to-anger hot-head.

If you were a soldier in a ground war. Would you rather have an easily-offended, telling-people-he-has-the-biggest... dick - in charge, or would you rather have a cool-headed pragmatic knowledgeable-about-issues & tactics person in charge? I would much rather have someone like HRC or Sanders (who served 2 years as chairman of the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee) deciding whether to send young men into battle.

Mmmm... you like Hillary, I can tell.

Clinton, hawkish? Trump was against Bush and the Iraq war and said Saddam was bad but killed terrorists, so you probably both agreed with each other at the time, correct? smile.png

However....Hillary voted to support GWB's war

Hillary voted to overthrow Gaddafi and just like Iraq, hasn't Libya gone well? She wants to overthrow Assad so Syria will follow suit and be worse than it presently is.

"Cool headed" you say? Cool alright

"Ms. Clinton has supported every war initiated by the United States not in self-defense for more than twenty three years since she first occupied the

White House as First Lady: Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, ISIS, Al- Qaeda, Yemen, Somalia" *

If she is President she has promised to obliterate Iran if it attacks Israel

You speak about what Trump said he will do. At this point in time it's just pre election talk, whereas with Hillary so far it is REAL

    * You can read more on the Goddess of War http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bruce-fein/-hillary-clintons-appalli_b_9157892.html

Trump is on record as being unsure whether he would support Bush Jr's and Cheney's Iraq II war. He wasn't in a position of power to vote on it (as Hillary was), and he only decided he was against it belatedly (Monday morning QB), when it was clear there was no WMD to be found. Hillary based her decision on Bush/Cheney/Powell insisting there were heaps of WMD, chemical weapons and N weapons there. Actually, the Iraq war turned out to be not all bad. Saddam was a tyrant and his 2 sons were worse. All 3 were mass murderers and at least one of them raped little girls habitually (one of the sons had an arrangement with Baghdad school principles to provide him with pre-menstral girls whenever he wanted, which was roughly every day). That may not be enough reason, in itself, to attack a country, but it comes pretty close.

Linzz writes; "You speak about what Trump said he will do. At this point in time it's just pre election talk, whereas with Hillary so far it is REAL"

You made a good point. Trump tells lies and says what rednecks want to hear. He's the premier salesman. In contrast, Hillary is more honest; what you see is what you get. With Trump you get a jack-in-the-box - every time he pops out of the box, he's got a different message.

Hillary couldn't be less honest and less real if she tried.

  4. What makes you think his family are in a hurry for him to die?

Because they were probably brought up to be as greedy as him.

So purely speculation, tinged perhaps with partisan resentment? I don't think you should allow that sort of petty grudge to influence your view on drink pricing and bar economics

I just hate capitalism, this may sound contradictionary, but I suppose it's OK up to a point.

Capitalism is the corner-stone on which pensions are built. Without the ability to derive income from your savings, through return on capital. Socialism, with its principle from each according to their ability, to each according to their need, turns the elderly into dependant beggars, forever living on the scraps that the working population choose to leave for them (or alternatively, blood-sucking leeches, sucking the prosperity from the working man).

Socialists of today rely on capitalists as their tax base, and paradoxically, could not fund their welfare dreams without other people (the wealthy) to fund them.

So enjoy your water, and if you're not happy with the price of it, drink in the street

    SC

This is nonsense. Under Marxism, if your efforts when you were of working age were subsidising those who couldn't work (both the elderly and also children) and then when you can no longer work the next generation subsidises you and this continues for every generation, then this is balance. Calling it leeching just shows your lack of intelligence and obvious bias.

  5. Astounding. Like watching a child invited to eat at the grown up table. Really embarrassing to be an American now, which I am.

I'm not embarrassed. We deserve this. Hopefully some good will come out of it. If not, we'll deserve that too.

The key word is 'hopefully.' We don't really know, with Trump. For starters, everything and everyone for him is either wonderful or horrible. ...and it can flip or flop hours or days later. Bush Junior ran on a policy of non-intervention and non-nation building. Didn't last long though. Circumstances pushed him down a dark alley on his lonesome where he was mugged by Richard Pearle Paul Wolfowitz, Dick Cheney, Don Rumsfeld and the rest of the gang. Poor fellow.

Now that Trump is championing the cause of non-intervention, will those braying for more intervention cease to support him? By the sounds of it, Clinton is far more hawkish.

I would much rather have someone like HRC or Sanders (who served 2 years as chairman of the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee) deciding whether to send young men into battle.

If you're a soldier in a ground war, it's already too late. If I was in the army and there were no wars going on, I'd much rather have Trump. With Trump you have no idea what you're going to get. He might actually decide that there's no need to make more money for the military-industrial complex. With Clinton, for sure things are going to continue the way they are if not get significantly worse. She's far less liberal and less anti-war than Obama is or at least claimed to be, so why would anyone have any hope of things getting better.

  6. Oh Dear --------------------------------Another one . !

Please fellow members be kind and do not tell him what is coming, he will not believe you.

Best the OP discovers Thailand for himself.

Come on spill the beans! I want to know how these things normally pan out. What's her next move!?

A 'good' Thai women does not go to bed with you the first night. I can not speak for your women, only in general. Many prostitutes now operate from dating sites, Facebook and similar. It's easier and much less degrading then sitting in a bar waiting for a guy to approach her. As some posts said, you can expect more requests for 'help', 'father must have surgery, buffalo sick, roof on houses broken, best buy new house for Mama'...none of those stories are usually verifiable, so be prudent. She has with certainty many other clients she also approaches for 'help'. This was already an MO of these bar flies 20-30 years ago, when tourists helped them write letters in English to beg for money from former clients. Then already it brought much more money then the bar traffic. Nowadays it's the internet. Keep your heart in both hands. They are crafty, beautiful, enticing, seductive and often enough dangerous women.

not really true about good girls not spending the night on first date. many farang like to believe that and use it as a yardstick about who is good or not. theres tons of promiscuity nowadays in all levels of society, be it at rural schools to the most prestigious universities and companies. having financial means also can lead to a more open minded outlook.

Agreed. I've had a couple of relationships with non-hookers and both did spend the night after first. The fact that she was doing so with someone who was over on holiday and not living in the country makes it a bit different though. Also, how did she manage to get a week off work so quickly to go to Pattaya? What work is it she claims to do? Sounds like OP is trolling.

  7. If her English is good, then it's likely she has been doing this for a while. So if she makes 4-7k a night, why does she still have no assets?

How old is she and what kind of place does she live in? No way if she's pulling in that kind of money would she be staying in a place that costs under 15k/month. Also are you sure she doesn't have a child? I think the vast majority of working girls here (unless they were born in Bangkok and are just doing it part-time) do.

You seem to like her but what are your plans- have you had any thoughts of how long you are going to stay in Thailand? You talk about her having a short career life, so she needs to be saving a lot unless she's going to live off you in the future. Outside of the Middle-east, it's very difficult for an English teacher to support a family on only one salary, especially if you want your child(ren) to have a good education themselves.

  8. Interesting that they conclude that he fainted and hit his head, rather than somebody hit him in the head and then he fell.

Sadly, or oddly, similar to the many fell in the bathroom deaths reported.

Not similar at all. Bathroom deaths are from hitting the edge of something- sink, bath, toilet etc. The police are saying he hit the floor. Also looks like there are no objects near his head. Much more suspicious.

  9. he should go to Netherland, where euthanasia is legal, he would get a shot instead of jumping to death, poor guy RIP

And who was it that gave Holland or Switzerland for that matter, the right to play God?...RIP fellow countryman.

so for people who get ALS, cancer, who live on artificial breathing, you think it is not humane to get a shot?

stupid guy you are, come on.....that is humane way to go if you suffer too much....

Well if I'm a stupid guy, that must make God more stupid in your opinion. There are no if's or buts in number 6/10 commandments. We are humans not animals,we have morphine to take care of the pain.I understand this is a huge debate, but in our sweet little freedom of speech socalled democracy,i'm entitled to my opinion as much as you are yours, which I respect but don't agree with.

Actually there are ifs and buts in commandment 6. It is not "Thou shalt not kill"- which is a very poor simplified translation. The correct translation is not to commit murder- or unjustified, unlawful killing. Therefore self-defense, capital punishment, warfare, suicide do not apply.

  10. I see they dodged the "Suckers" gogo bar for the photo opportunity this time. coffee1.gif

The last time I was on top of a problem was just before my divorce. I wonder how long all this seriousness will last I give it 24 hours. A mighty show of strength and then back to the police box for some R and R.

I think you will find the army is quietly forcing the obvious sex trade venues out of business in BK.

The new style puritan government is determined to be rid of it.

What have they done to give you that crazy idea? They seem to be keeping up with being strict about closing times (at certain places) but other than that nothing appears to have changed.

  11. and if it was a woman? and she did the same would he run to Police? if I was him I'd have got out of there totally embarrassed and feeling pretty dumb and stupid

assuming it wasn't penetration why make a fuss?

I probably also wouldn't "make a fuss". But there is a huge double-standard here. If the victim was female and woke up to an older man performing oral sex on her how many would criticise her for running to the police? I bet there would be far less jokes being made about the topic and far more talk about the evils of Thai men.

  12. RIP

Cliffnotes for anyone who didn't read the huge blog post:

    - Family problems, painful acne, tinnitus (ear ringing, many have committed suicide from that alone), oppressive Christian university.

    - Mentioned academically how suicide can be a rational choice, to a psychologist. Ends up being involuntarily imprisoned on the spot, sent to a mental ward for a potentially unlimited time, labelled as mentally defective for the rest of his life preventing him from getting employment, gun license, etc.

    - Managed to get released eventually, by that point had lost his small business and was close to broke

    - In the US if you sleep in your car you're arrested, imprisoned, the car is impounded, and then homeless when released, so he flies to Europe

    - Writes on his blog that he'd learnt of a 'new drug that lets you die painlessly', no mention of that being in Thailand or what it could be

Also mentions on the website that he was home schooled from k-12. Wonder if this caused or exacerbated some issues as well as the poorly chosen university he attended.

  13. I have a lot to say about this topic, especially the "I'm not aware" part of it.

Did you know a Thai teacher can 'draw' most of their future earnings RIGHT NOW!

    Let that sink in.....

New teacher=no money, sign contract with government get money now! Its my money, I want it now!

I can't remember the exact % but it is above 80%.

Do the math, we are talking big money! (30+- years X salary)

Do you think teacher wants to teach making >20%? for the next 30 years?

Most teachers where I live run a Internet shop, kids play hookie, kids get plagiarism assignments to print print print. Kids pay internet, kids skip school to play internet

shop. Kids get to go to see the aircraft carrier, kids go to temple, kids go to camp. lots and lots of not learning especially the plagiarism part. When I was my kids age I was writing my own stories, writing about topics and doing my own research.

Amazing! I have a lot more I can say, but the kicker is the fist paragraph. I have never seen anybody else mention that part of the problem ever. Teachers don't teach because they spent the money already.

When teacher mess's up, teacher gets transfer to another place. Teacher keeps private car paid by 1st paragraph, gets new government allowance for apt, or rent a house if government apt not available. No accountability. period

This works great for me, because I like Thailand to always be a cheap place to live with lots of servants.

Judging from your post, I am willing to make a guess about your history.

Either you learned English in the Thai school system,

or you did not pay much attention in class where ever you did go to school.

Hint" I do not see any paragraphs in your post at all!

    Let that sink in!

Nice one Wilburt. Your the best. Best with conjunction, interjunction, nouns, verbs and paragraphs. Try thinking that not everybody uses a desktop computer on TV.

Your better then me Willy in every way.

    What is that?

Maybe he meant interjection? Surprised you didn't correct his your/you're issues too. On the other hand I'm sure you meant wherever not 'where ever'.

  14. The 'game' is a Western invention where the hero is the player, he is cast in the role of a thief! I am surprised that people condemn the kids and not the sickos who thought up and market the game.

So no movies where the main character is a criminal should be allowed either? Ban the Godfather!

The games have an age-restriction so if you don't want to condemn the kids then condemn whoever is allowing them to play the game.

  15. I have just read the Telegraph report on banning the game in Thailand. The report states that the game encourages gamers to steal in order to find the funds to play the game, if this is true then I am amazed that posters here can criticise Thailand when this utterly criminal game is a product of their own culture.

No you've combined to many things there. The game encourages you to steal in game to get points but in those versions of the game (pre 2008) there was no online play so if he was frustrated at having no money to play it would have been just for using the game cafe.

Unfortunately in newer games they do try to get you to pay more and more money to unlock content but that includes totally non-violent games. Are you going to blame Iphones or LV bags for crime as people need money to buy those too?

  16. So, as far as I'm aware prostitution is illegal in LOS in any way shape or form.

So how does a tourist go to police & say I've be robbed by a male prostitute, that I had taken back to My hotel room. Can't see how that works, you're robbed whilst breaking the law !

Is taking a pro who on this occasion was a thief to your room illegal? That's how it works.

Selling sex is illegal. It's not illegal to buy it.

  17. Parents are to blame....

Whose dumber the dead kid or his friends unable to keep up with him?

Fortunately he didn't hurt any other innocent victims...

Will his friends learn? Doubt it

You state "parents are to blame" ...I will go out on a limb and in ny thinking you are not a parent. If you are maybe you could start a thread on how we can be the perfect parent you are. You post is most self serving rubbish on this thread. Stop and think ....if this was your son and you read post that you are somehow to blame.....

I will stop , clearly you were not in queue for intelligence

It sounds like the partying, drinking and driving/speeding drunk were a regular occurrence so the parents should have done something to curb it whether that be by having a curfew and/or confiscating the bike until the son showed more responsibility. If I had allowed my son to carry on with that behaviour and it ended in his death, I wouldn't need anyone else to tell me it was my fault. A 17 year old is not an adult, you still have a responsibility to protect them from themselves.

  18. If you read the AP article, it reported that they don't know if Thai Union still sources shrimp from peeling factories which employ slave and child labor. The article says that the source of peeled shrimp is almost impossible to determine anymore because the peeling factories in Samut Sakorn are basically pop-up shells making it impossible to determine where wholesalers and distributors are sourcing the shrimp.

They're saying it's hard to tell where each shrimp comes from so you can't tell which ones comes from clean sources and which don't. But to take this as saying they think there is a possibility that now all TUs shrimp comes from clean sources is a massive stretch. Don't think they are implying that at all. Also it would make for a boring/less sensational story so no way they'd do that either.
