Or...you could try the more up-market "Pailin Hotel" not too far from the entrance to the old city...1,000 baht to 1,200 baht a night. Good luck.
Pailin is quite a long way out from New Sukhothai and Old Sukhothai. I'm assuming they have a car, so it won't be a problem, but for anyone who doesn't it's 100 baht by minivan to the town centre. It's a real hassle in that respect. On the plus side, the rooms are clean. Food is good, but on the high side... after all they are in the middle of nowhere and hold the monopoly! I liked the service I received.
No, No....the Sukhothai Pailyn Hotel is about 3 km from the gates of the historical Sukhothai Park. I've stayed there and it's easy to walk to the old city. Are you thinking of the sister hotel in Phitsanulok?
Nope. The hotel's on a bloody highway. http://www.thai-tour.com/thai-tour/North/S...-hotel/map.html to see a map. And I seriously wouldn't walk 3km in the open air. Anyway, it says 14km on the map... hmmm... and anyway, I stayed in Sukhothai, not Phitsanulok as my main reason for being there was to see meuang gaw and Si Sa.

She wasn't the only one who asked me if I was disappointed cos my baby looked Thai! Good job my son was born here in the UK he's so Thai looking, I've been asked loads of times if I'm his childminder or if he's adopted!
I'm always worrying that this will happen to me if I marry my (Viet) boyfriend.

Didnt Scampy meet a Danish gal in Cambodia?
She's obviously very friendly
cv
She's friends with the Swiss guy in Bangkok.

MY problem was taking my lady to NZ..she was a bit of a bangkok party gal if you get my drift.
She couldnt handle the fact she could not go out and eat at 2 am in the morning.
Why no shop open?
Me hungy
Why only one thai shop and far away?.
Dont underestimate the importance of food in a thai ladies life.
Hey, I'm not Thai and I complain about Sydney's restaurants shutting at 9pm. When I go out I'd love a decent restaurant wherever I am to be open in the wee hours... and most young Thai people would say the same

These kinds of wristbands normally have the name of the manufacturer and the phone number inscribed on the inside... like these paeng ones http://www.thaiticketmaster.com/premium/father_wristband.php
Walk up to a random and ask them to read you the name and number of who did those ones?

Bangkok at least has been doing mercury free dentistry for a decade and a half.

Well then, spill the beans.

My sister and I used to have our hair pulled and our skin pinched in the streets in Bangkok the first year we lived there, and at 11 and 7 years old it was simply weird... but what was more so was that my sister was washed and dressed by a maid at one of her Thai friend's houses that first year... she wasn't even allowed to do her own shoelaces up when she was about to leave

I don't know about now, but in the mid 90s there was a road hierarchy based on what vehicle was driven. If it was a Merc or a BMW, the driver controlled the road. Hondas were the middle of the road vehicles. If you were a lowly pickup truck/ute or a Toyota owner you were at the bottom of the heap, save the motorbikes...

Yup, the Tandoori restaurant.

Thanks for the information.
Are most of the ESL teachers in Thailand Aussies?
Ah, can't answer that one... I left before the ESL rush took hold!

Visa, Amex... all privates companies. They provide a service to businesses. And there is a cost for that service.
No, that is not correct. MasterCard and Visa are NFPs. American Express is private. There has been a small discussion on this in:
-
I thought that was for a Thai National (under very restricted conditions) going to Oz Is there a reciprocal agreement that applies for Aussies coming here?
Supplying the source of your statement would be very appreciated
It is part of the Free trade agreement. Check the immigration web site for Senator Vanstones anouncements.
It has not made it on to the working holiday visa page yet. Same rules as working holiday, under 30, max 12 months, no more than 3 months for 1 employer.
There is more information on http://thaisydney.idx.com.au/HoliWorkvisa.html, however it is not completely clear... for example it doesn't expressly say you need an undergraduate degree. I've been looking on Australian Government websites, but all I have seen are couple of media releases, not proper documents.

There's a funny little song you can learn to help. I can't remember the name of it but it goes something like this: sala, nun me ku gun, siang san ku gub siang yaaw... I've made so many family members laugh when I sing it

Awesome. Isssan/Esarn/Isaan is the only region of Thailand I have never been to and after seeing those pictures I'm definitely going the next time I'm in Thailand.

Alot of Brits have a negative attitude. They need to pull their thumbs out of there butts and come to terms with the fact that they no nonger have an empire!
I'm English and I have never given much the British Empire much thought. There's been heaps of empires. It's not exactly a new concept.

I don't think that there's anything wrong with teaching. I was taught by some of the best teachers the UK, the US and Australia has to offer in Bangkok. Sure there's varying grades of the English language teachers the OP refers to, but it is a very flexible profession and enables people to pursue other areas of interest varying from picking up every night of the week to studying.

Body Glove t-shirts and Body Glove bike pants that were so hot in the 90s are pretty much out of existence.

Why, nothing remotely Thai-related exists there at all. I'm sure that since you are Thai, of course you know this.
Am I missing something here? I wasn't Thai last time I checked...
That is exactly my point! slow off the mark, aren't you?

However far away it is, I'm amazed you walked there. There isn't even a footpath outside the hotel.
