  1. For years, I've been hearing that there are no private beaches in Thailand and ALL beaches are open to anyone with free access. I ran across a beach today that they claim is "private" and charge people to access. Is this new? Or has private beaches always been around?

  2. You're so correct there. There have been millions of nosocomial infections and not a single one attributed to therapy dogs. That's one of the hard parts for these groups... educating the ignorant about this.

"Dogs carry diseases" So they do 'jacky54'..... so they do, but so do humans.

And as for passing the said diseases on, humans beat dogs into a cocked hat. In many documented cases Humans have done so intentionally, I don't think a dog has ever done that.

I don't think the OP is talking about fixing 'pork chops' around the necks of sick people, then rounding up a few Soi dogs and letting them loose in the hospital....do you?

I've heard about very results where dogs have been used in hospital and old peoples homes to improve the quality of life for patients.

    Just saying.

  3. In my previous life, I had a coupe of therapy dogs who I took to hospitals, family courts, old folks homes, etc.

I have done some google searches and can't find anything like that in Thailand. Even Therapy Dogs International doesn't have any contact information for anyone here.

Has anyone heard of a therapy dog group in Thailand?

  4. I've lived on Phuket for 2 years now. I love my home, it's location, and the island. But I would love to spend time in other parts of Thailand instead of a weekend here and a weekend there..

I've looked at the big home exchange sites like homeexchange.com but not many people are registered there in Thailand.

Are there any interest in swapping homes for 2-4 weeks at a time? Would love to spend more time up in the Chiang Mai area, which I absolutely love. Or even someplace like Koh Chang would be fun.

Has this topic been covered already? Anyone interested?

  5. I have 3 questions that may have each individually been answered already but cannot find in my search. Let me preface by saying that I do have a Veterinary Science degree and worked in the field for many years in my LBT (Life Before Thailand).

1: Anyone know where in the Phuket area that sell medical and dental instruments? Forceps, scrapers, periodontal probes, etc? Phuket area would be the best. But I could pick things up on one of my trips to BKK if need be.

2: Before I left, propofol was not a controlled anesthetic drug in the US, just a prescription level drug. Anyone know the status here? Is it OTC?

    3. Is Veterinary Medicine one of the protected jobs in Thailand? Would love to get into the field again if possible. If not, then I can still work with my own pets if I can get 1 and 2 without problems, mostly in the dental cleaning field.

    Thanks all.

  6. If you're interested in going spearfishing down in Phuket, freediving or with scuba, send me a message. If you need equipment, there's at least 2 shops here that sells spearfishing guns and supplies. Guns as low as 7000b.

Well this is convenient, please tell us whether or not you can use a spear gun in Thailand ?

Also, if you want to get a PADI Underwater Hunter Specialty, let me know.

Spearfishing while freediving ok, but with scuba, that is just pathetic.

I can't see any difference.......if you want it fair, catch and strangle the animals with your hands only.

All depends on how many people are doing it and on how much they take out, and how often the shoot their buddy (reducing their own numbers).

That's how we do it with lobsters and other crustaceans. And they taste MUCH better.

  9. Am I missing something here? Is this an uncontested divorce, which basically means it occurs when: (a) there are no disagreements between you and your spouse over any financial or divorce-related issues (i.e., child custody and support, division of marital property or spousal support); and (B) your spouse either agrees to the divorce, or fails to appear in the divorce action.

So, since this is an "uncontested divorce" then what's your issue with the land and other properties?

  10. How does one set up an account with Bangkok Bank of New York that allows one to transfer funds to their bank in Chiang Mai? When I inquire at a Bangkok Bank in Chiang Mai I am told that it cannot be done.

Here's how, from Bangkok Bank itself. http://www.bangkokbank.com/BangkokBank/PersonalBanking/DailyBanking/TransferingFunds/TransferringIntoThailand/ReceivingFundsfromUSA/Pages/ReceivingFundsfromUSA.aspx

In other words Bangkok Bank in Chiang Mai is correct, individuals cannot open accounts with BBL in New York for this purpose, the fund transfers are simply processed through BBL New York.

They were not correct. You can open up an account with Bangkok Bank of New York that allows one to transfer funds to the Bangkok Bank in CM (or any Bangkok Bank) simply by opening an account at any Bangkok Bank. Bangkok Bank is Bangkok Bank. Heck, you can even do bank transactions all they way down here in Phuket! They are pretty connected.

  11. Another vote for Capital One 360 here. Free transfers to Bangkok Bank and they have to international usage fees on their bank cards.

After informing them over a year ago that I will be living here, never had to remind them again that I'm using my card internationally. Never had a blocked charge from them.

    Excellent customer service too.

  12. Rent your gear, go down to rawai beach rent a longtail. Dive any of the close places for less than 3000 baht. Problem solved

Then it s not a shore dive anymore...

+ a beach dive with gear, tanks , weight (and instructor) cost only 1200thb.

Depends on where the longtail goes. Paradise Beach has a wonderful reef. And unless you want to do a long haul with your gear, you get a longtail to take you there. Done that a few times.
