  1. OP, you have to renew your 2 year licence before it expires, waiting up to one year is only for the 5 year licences. You will need a medical certificate too, it's not needed for the 5 year licencies. Went to renew my "BoRoBor" today in Hat Yai and was a little bit scared because it's normally very crowded; but not so today. Just a few people, in and out in 2 minutes. Asked about renewing driving licences; everything as usual.

More than 10 years of driving and biking on Thai roads and so far, no tickets through the post yet, touch wood. I never observe the speed limits, I drive as fast as I deem safe and as slow as required when in built up or hazardous areas.
Was stopped once by a traffic cop, doing 60 mph in a 50 mph zone, on the A40 heading towards South Bucks. Was let off with a warning by the professional yet friendly cop who even offered assistance to rejoin the dual carriageway.

mph? so you are always too fast..

Yes, if you want to do a counter withdrawal they check your passport and it should be the same as the one on record.

Maybe different from bank to bank, but i used a BBL account for counter withdrawals for a long time. Never had a problem, but when it was full, they asked to verify the passport number, as it was meanwhile the 3. passport. The 1. one i didn't have any more, only the 2. and 3. one. Took about 30 minutes to get everything in order, but wasn't a problem.

If you a bank account, direct debit is definately the way to go. Just ensure you have enougth funds in the bank and forget about it. You will still get your monthly printed bill as per normal. I cant believe people in this day and age still trudge down to 7/11 to pay their bill. Maybe its the highlight of their day.

I pay my bills at the PEA as it's near, otherwise it could be 7/11. I don't like to have my bank accounts being linked to direct debit. That's about trust; no problem using apps otherwise.

  5. Went there just 2 hours ago. Old office, still no sign there, neither in English nor in Thai. Had to submit a TM30, they placed a new sticker for that just after the entrance. Officer didn't say a word about moving, but told me, that i could do the TM30 online now (except the first time). So i asked him if the 90 days report could be done online too; still NO...

While much of the advice and thoughts are appreciated, I still and far from convinced that "all is good". I have FD Kasikorn bank. I hoping someone will be along to say something like.... "I did my extension last week. I have a FD with K bank and obtained letter from bank at CW on the day. I did not show any activity on the day. The io accepted the bank letter"

There a 2 things that worry me. First is making sure that the bank will provide letter on the day at CW (don't want to be told that I need to do at branch where ac opened or some such). Second is that the io will accept the letter, without activity on the day, as I have always done in past using savings ac. And yes it was required by the io.

The first worry I hopefully clear up at my bank with a visit gf in tow.

I did use FD with K bank some years ago. It was always possible to update the bank book, but not at the machine. You have to go to the counter and ask/tell them to update manually (insist if necessary). If they only update it at the machine you'll get the date of the last movement what is not accepted by most IO's.

I fail to understand that a letter from your bank dated the same day as your application should be any different to making a deposit.  After all, you can make the deposit, update your passbook then draw it out again (without updating your passbook) all before going to immigration.

It makes zero sense.  Try getting an immigration officer to explain the logic behind it.  They won't be able to.

It's not about logic, it's about following the rules only.

  8. Gave the old bottle my niece for replacing with filled one at a small shop; 370 Baht. Bought a new bottle (2300) and went to fill it up last month at a PTT gas station in Songkhla province; 265 Baht (15 Kg).

  9. OP, i made my 90 days report and renewed the non-o extension in Hat Yai today.  IO was very busy, but everything done within two hours. I have to wait though till some officers come to visit our house (but it's not on consideration as i changed from marriage to retirement). They said, it's a new order, they have to visit every year now - before it was just for the first extension. However, this order most likely comes from "Big Toe" and not from Songkhla Immigration itself, the officers had been very friendly and helpful as ever.

Usually retirement extensions do not get visits. I think it is the procedure only for marriage extensions.   Well I am pretty sure no-one I know in retirement has ever been visited.  It is usually to confirm that the marriage, relationship and address are all kosher.

No, it's not a confirmation of marriage, just of the address, as ubonjoe says. I got a visit this year, after changing my place of residence. I have an extension based on retirement since two years. Before i had extensions based on marriage for 9 years, never got a visit from the immigration.

This was at Phang Nga immigration. Visits for the extension based on marriage seem to be more common, but I think this is a new thing for retirement visa. Thanks for the other replies confirming it was a quick check on the address, But I am still interested to know if that was for marriage or retirement extension.

I lived in Nakorn Pathom province for 10 years, changed from marriage to retirement some years ago, never had a visit. Moved to Songkhla province last year and got a visit this year when i made the extension - proof of really living at this adress. And TSF; no bear, offering bear to Muslim officers is not the best idea..

  12. Dazinoz, your friend should use fb or line to ask friends to get a good agent. Most of my friends from Myanmar with a passport used agents. Consulates and embassie are no big help as most immigrants here are no "ethnic Bema", they are more likley Tai Yei, Shan, Karen and other ethnics. If she doesn't have any proof of origin, the only legal way to get it would be a trip home first.

Unfortunately, can't instill common sense where there is none. I used to see loads of locals riding down a very badly potholed road using only one hand on the handlebars. Usually when on the phone, holding an umbrella when it was raining, or in the worst case, holding a new baby in one arm.

I don't live there anymore, but I'm sure it still happens.

My ex never used to wear a helmet till I made her.

Not only when it's raining, also used as sun protection..
