The restaurant should be required by law to show all menu prices.

Or maybe the diner display little prudence and walk if he doesn't know what he is going to be charged.

This seems to be happening more often across tourist areas.  It is a common scam in Istanbul, Turkey.  Just read article this am of occurrence in Athens, Greece.  And now in Phuket.

    Tourists beware.

I just got my 5 years license renewed in Chiang Mai. Car and motorbike, both expired more than 2 years. Here is my experience.

    Condition:

    • Entered Thailand with non-imm visa in late July
    • Applied renewal on 1/Aug
    • Out of Thailand for 3 years due to COVID
    • Licenses were expired more than 2 years

    Documents:

    • Residence certificate (I paid an agent to do it through immigration, because I didn't have time. Embassy option was not possible due to the length I stayed here, too short to issue it).
    • Passport
    • Photocopy of passport
    • Medical certificate
    • expired license
    • Printout of the QR code of the online course certificate

    Procedure:

    • Took online course even before I arrive in Thailand.
    • Walk in to the Chiang Mai hang dong branch, arrived at 8.00. There was already a long que.
    • Entered the building at 8.15, queued again at the information on the second floor. However if you are sure with the document, probably you can skip this process.
    • Go to counter 27 without any numbers assigned, just directly give the document at the counter
    • As my license was expired over 1 year, exam at 10.00.
    • 2 exams, one for car, one for motorbike. They register your fingerprint for verification.
    • Pass the exam. Over 45/50.
    • Go to counter 27. They gave me the number for other counters to pay.
    • Number called, fee paid.
    • Proceed to take pictures, and print the new license, good until 2028. It's renewed license, not new. So the date when I got the license first remains as 2014.

The good thing is that in Chiang Mai you don't need booking and you can process it on the same day. I originally thought of doing it in Bangkok, but online booking was fully booked until September. I also contacted some agents in Pattaya, I didn't mind paying if it can be done quickly. However, they told me they need to book it when I arrive in Thailand, then from that point it could be a few days, or weeks to wait. They also said if it's expired over 2 years, it's complete new license, starting from 2 years temporary license again. I contacted 2 agents in Pattaya they sell these supporting services and both said the same thing.

In the end, coming to chiang mai and doing it by myself was the fastest and also the best result.

    Good deal!

And it's only fair.  The offices were closed for most of 2 years anyway.

    Happy motoring!

  3. Sounds like you have a very friendly, cooperative branch.  Why would you ever go back to the original?  What advantage or reason would you care what the "original" branch is?

I opened a Kasikorn account in Patts in 2013.  I have never been to that branch after 2013.  Use phone app for everything and any branch I happen into if in person service needed {like change passport number} be it Patts, Bangkok or Udon take care of anything I need qwikly and very happily.

It'll be hard for Trump to weasel out of this one.  The next LIV tournament is being held at his golf course....which is pretty close to where 9/11 happened.  He's going to be getting some negative press....as if he needed any more.

[Dozens of family members and survivors of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack will head to former President Donald Trump’s Bedminster golf club next week to protest the controversial Saudi-backed LIV Golf event there.]

That has nothing to do with golf nor the saudi's.  It's from the never trump all the time media.

Hmm, how could I come to that conclusion??  Were any of these "protesters" at the last LIV event?  Were any of them at the first LIV event?  First one was even in Portland so they didn't have to travel as far.

Speaking of which, would be interesting to know who is paying the expenses of these "protesters" so they can get their 15 minutes air time....

Also, the human rights argument is disingenuous.  Regardless of personal opinions, the world condones, protects and rewards the saudi's with every tanker that safely arrives at a point of sale.  Stop making them rich then we can put a little teeth in the we are appalled at their human rights record.

I say more power to LIV and any one that wants to participate.  Maybe if PGA would put all the earnings generated by the tournaments (tv money, sponsors, etc.) into the purses rather than executive salaries and pet project they would never have had a problem.

Disclaimer:  avid golfer for 25+ years.  I love the game.  Nothing feels better in the world than watching that little ball do exactly what you envisioned it doing. But there is nothing special, sacred or virtuous about it.  It is a game with a ball.

A signed contract means nothing, you can always be released for any or no reason.

Only thing would offer any sense of security to me would be if they are paying for the flight and cash up front for the relocation.  At least that shows a commitment.

But otherwise sound advice:  never relocate to anywhere, Thailand included, on a promise with no way to support yourself if things go wrong.
