It will still be a third world country for a long time, and that is why I like it here.
Boom. Truth hurts.
Let's add streets flooding every time it rains. The warm smell of sewage from storm drains as one walks a street with blocked, uneven sidewalks. Black nasty on bottom of shoes every time you walk down a street.
You want to be a premium destination? You gotta look (and smell) the part first.

I kinda think this is a bit of a blessing.
Had they managed to get out of the Kingdom they would have required a visa to return on a UK passport.

I've seen this website mentioned several times, posters saying it's possible to "rent" a ticket. Have you used this service yourself?
I'll be flying in next week on a one-way ticket, and want to be prepared to buy something last-minute at the airport if necessary.
Hoping to hear some actual experiences successfully boarding (or not!) when asked to show an onward ticket.
I used onward ticket in May. I have never been asked for proof of ticket in 17 years but just said what the heck and gave it a shot.
Website was easy to use. Can "book" any flight itinerary of your choosing for any dates of your choosing. You can also specifiy a time you want the 48hr clock to start on your reservation.
So, for few bucks I believe it is a good insurance policy for that overly inquisitive immigration officer and will probably use the service again if traveling on one way ticket.
Just recalled there was one instance I was asked for onward travel proof. Flight from US with connection in Hong Kong was delayed so missed the connection. Airline rebooked our flight for next day and put us up in hotel for the night. The China Air agent would not re-issue my ticket without onward itinerary. I booked cheapest flight she could offer, to Vietnam I think, for any date she selected and made it clear I would cancel the flight just as soon as she handed me the ticket. But that is only time I ever had a question, was in 2009 as I recall.
But anyway, onward is good to go for peace of mind.

For reference from today's "The Nation" (28 June 2022):
Pattaya City authorities put up temporary fencing on Jomtien Beach to mark out the border between Pattaya and Na Jomtien municipalities after authorities came under criticism for failing to enforce the no-commerce rule.
Ya know,
There are just no words I can come up with..........

Wonder if gorsuch would be happy for me to stand at the opposite end of the pitch with a hailer chanting “there is no god,!there is no god, there is no god” over and over.
If so, then fair enough…Of course Gorsuch, or any one else for that matter, is happy for you to express any opinion you have on whatever topic. But that doesn't mean anyone has to listen or even care.
The US Constitution specifically defines limitations on the government, not citizens. It is the government or government agencies that can not restrict your voice on whatever topic. The ruling is correct.

I wonder if she will still spend dad's money?
Cancel the credit cards, trust fund, be forced to go get a job like every one else and I suspect she will re-evaluate her commitment to her new positions......

Those that actially have money rarely need to show it.
Those that want to give the impression they have it rarely do.
Wealth is not measured in what you have or display. It is what you can keep when the income stops flowing.

Imho the previously desirable non-imm OA should be bottom of the list.
Enter visa exempt, obtain an O visa in Thailand with subsequent retirement extension, is your easiest and cheapest option.
Your biggest hurdle could be getting yourself a bank account here, do some research on that subject.
This is the way to go.
I would seriously consider agent for first time. I have done both ways and the proper agent will make it a turn key, drive it off the lot experience so easy you will wonder why you didn't do this years ago.
But as always YMMV and every one has a different opinion

Easy to get to and relatively cheap.
That was the formula and it remains the only way to successfully revive the golden goose. To think mango and rice or a thai movie is why a person will subject themselves to the misery of airports and a plane travel for a day or longer is really insane.

I'm 54 now and 55% of me wishes I had found someone when l was your age and banged one out. ????
I lived 50 years with never an intent to have a wife. I saw so many friends and family lives ruined back in USA, guys left with nothing simply because she decided she didn't want to be married any more. Vowed it would never happen to me and stuck to my guns. My attitude softened towards marriage when I started visiting Thailand in 2005, I learned there is a better culture than western.
My attitude softened on kids after a long illness for my dad. The one of if not the saddest thing I ever saw was so many elderly in hospital with no one ever coming to see them. No one. Ever. I know no one came to see them because mom, brother and I was with my dad 108 days straight before I had to return to work in Afghan. I decided I did not want to be those people.
Now I am 59. I have 4 yo, 5 yo and 7 yo. And they are joy of my life. We are separated a lot for my work but just seeing and hearing them on the phone at the end of long hard day puts me on cloud 9. Yes, they are expensive. Yes, they break everything in the house. And, yes, I will not be able to retire for a good while yet.
I lived the dream for 50+ years of a single man with world by the tail. But, honestly, I don't remember not having those 3 little souls and their mom in my life. When one of the little monkeys crawls up in my lap and puts their little head on my chest nothing else in the world matters......

How much (or how much extra) ?
As I recall my math to do everything myself would have been 30 or 40 dollars cheaper. I would pay 40 bucks every day not to deal with tedious bureaucracy.

I used Royal Vacations Thailand as agent to deal with all this <deleted> in February. Seamless and trouble free for everything.
I will use them when I return in May if all the hoops are not eliminated by then.

.....Need to find a sourdough starter kit here......
I got interested in bread making and sour dough couple years ago. There are lots of vids on you tube with helpful advice.
You can make starter with flour, water and time. Try different flours until you get what you like. Not hard at all.
And I find very enjoyable to experiment with different methods and techniques. None in my family eats bread but me and I eat very little so I either trash or give away most. But is very enjoyable to bake bread. For me anyway.

No. It is not that easy.
There are several detailed threads explaining. They helped me tremendously way back when I did it.
Good luck......
