The auto rental company I use in the US requires an IDP in addition to the foreign license when renting.
You could change rental companies. I have rented several times, from several different majors in US and never a question on the Thai DL.
As some one else stated above, the IDP is not a license and in no way allows you to drive in any country, it is only a translation of your existing license pertinent information into several different languages. I in past diligently pursued the IDP for years but learned if the DL is printed in English pretty much waste of time and energy to obtain IDP.
But as always, opinions presented here are mine, mine alone and in no way are intended to contradict or challenge your opinion, experiences or beliefs. In other words: YMMV

I am very interested in knowing more of Mr. Kelsey where abouts as well.
He solved issues for me a couple times. He induced extreme pain on the table, but when you stand up you are fixed. That is very rare. My experience most want you to come back next week. And the next week.......

Maybe the truth is in the continued requirements, with out verbalizing a response.........

Have read that comment several times within these pages.
There is no restriction on a person testing as often as he feels comfortable, every day if one wishes. But there is major difference in a personal preference and a government requirement. Personally, I would rather eliminate as many requirements as possible.

Who needs IKEA?? Certainly not me. When I lived in Lanna, Northern Thailand, there were plenty of local family carpenters and furnishers, who I supported, offering quality products at affordable prices.
Evidently large portion of the population. Seems their parking and stores are always packed.

"..........A ‘Durian Farm Virtual Tour’ platform was recently launched to allow tourists to visit a farm in the virtual world and purchase real fruit to be delivered to them......."
Boys, now that right there is gonna turn the tide. I don't have to jump through any hoops, I can just send my money to Thailand right here from the comfort of my own sofa.

This is not a problem exclusive to Thailand.
The financial institutions spend millions in advertising telling you how great your life will be if you only borrow more money. Consumer debt is a world wide problem.

Since I was a kid they have been predicting Miami would soon be under water.
You will know the end is near when they stop loaning money on ocean front property.

If you read Qatar website it will state Qatar has no requirements, only verify arriving nation requirements before boarding. I didn't trust website and spent 45 minutes on hold for a service rep to verify.
And for the guy transiting thru Doha, there is no requirements there as well. Doha is the most normal airport I have traveled thru, absolutely packed to pre covid levels and every shop/restaurant open as normal. Huge contrast to walking thru Suvarnabhumi

Keep the pre departure test so you know you are fit to travel and scrap the arrival test so you are not concerned with a false positive ruining everything.
There is no profit in that scheme.....

I think no big deal from my observation.
I just left 8 March. There was a young lady in the "line" area of immigration insuring those exiting country had the card and filled out. She had few in her hand providing to those that did not have or couldn't readily produce.
YMMV

Put it in a case, if new remove all labels, hand carry it thru. It will never be questioned.
Have carried several guitars in and never been questioned.
But, stop and volunteer to the friendly customs agent you have a new instrument, inquire if there is any duty owed and he will gladly hold you up for a while to sort it out and take your cash.

My application was submitted on Tuesday 1 Feb and I received approval this morning, saturday, to fly on Monday.
So it is working.
I confess, I did use a travel agent to handle mine and make all required arrangements. Agent did advise there were problems in the system causing a lot of people to complain.
YMMV

Value of all things, as with beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. One man's treasure is another man's garbage, another cliché that holds truth.
That is why they make so many different options of practically everything, including phones. If one attempts to rationalize another's taste there is no end to the argument.

Ding, ding ding. We have a winner.
Any thinking person knowing there is soon to be a change in requirements will postpone couple or even few weeks to arrive under the new "scheme." It is only prudent.
