My wife uses her US Master card regularly in Thailand.
I don't think it is a Thailand problem. Most likely the foreign bank flagging the transaction as suspicious being in Thailand

The problem with reporting it as stolen is that when he applies for a replacement he will be questioned and if his embassy discovers that he actually gave his passport to an agent and it wasn't stolen, that will constitute a false declaration on his application which is illegal and can result in prosecution.
He will not report only "stolen" and nothing more to his embassy. He gives a complete report of all details. The embassy will have investigative personnel that will contact the agent. And most likely will involve local police as well.
Just to say "stolen" is not what will occur.

Got to vote with the others. You best contact embassy right away. But then again there is evidently no rush.
8 days and I would be calling the cops. 8 weeks is absolutely crazy.
Best of luck.

Oh my goodness.
Decide something. Anything. And go with it. Constant change is not very good for stability or confidence.

This should be good.
Peoples all over the world seeking to "resolve" debt will be so relieved to know how these guys do it.

Thanks for the clarification.
I went back and checked my Kasikorn transfers couple weeks ago for past few months and all stated "Trade Finance Deposit" so was hoping, but yet to verify, that meant international funds as all had same.
Also, it is good to know Wise is responsive to customers. Too many companies today shrug it off with 'nothing we can do.'

One can't assign western moral standards to Thai culture.
You actually think those GI's back in 60's corrupted old Siam? Those GI's only learned what rest of Asia had known for centuries.....

Agreed... Unfortunately the consequences are not ‘clearly outlined’ and there is no ‘general’ policy on the response to positive cases which seem to be addressed on a ‘case by case basis’.
Additionally, domestic cases seem to dealt with differently than ‘arriving Test & Go’ or Sandbox cases.
Arrival ‘positive' cases (Test & Go / Sandbox) seem to be treated more severely and may be forced to isolate in a Hospitel or Hospital depending on symptoms.
However, domestic (i.e. those living here) ‘asymptomatic cases’ to are not automatically sent to quarantine in hospital (i.e. at great expense to a foreigner or their insurance).
In the event of a Positive PCR test, people are ‘asked’ to come to hospital and placed under observation for a couple of days. If they remain asymptomatic they are permitted to go home and isolate there.
The ‘patient’ is given the option to remain in hospital if they wish.
Note: This may vary from hospital to hospital and province to province.
However, I know a handful of people (both Thai and foreign) and they have not been forced into hospital for a two week isolation or until testing PCR negative, they’ve been permitted to go home after 2/3 days and isolate there.
Families are not separated at all. There are no reports or evidence of this.
If one member of the family (a child or adult) tests positive, all are requested to isolate together.
Dude!
The entire article and subsequent discussion is about travelers entering Thailand from abroad and the separation of a family for an asymptomatic positive test.
There is and has been no discussion of current domestic policy.
However, the first 1 year {and maybe 1 1/2 year of this thing, I would have to look back to confirm exactly how long} Thailand was absolutely forcing every positive test into a hospital and separating families. The only country in the world to do so.

Yes, it is crazy to travel for leisure in these times. And everyone should educate themselves and be prepared for the consequences.
But I think the most important take aways 2 years into this :
Thailand is still putting not sick people in hospital. There is no other country in the world doing this. Heck, in US you go to hospital sick, test positive for COVID they send you home and say come back if you can't breathe.
And Thailand is only country separating families when there is a positive test. I had my family with me out of Thailand for my work. Contract is ending and had to return them to Thailand. My biggest fear was being forcibly separated at some point. Very luckily it didn't happen but it was a definite risk.
Anyone that travels for leisure with family to Thailand is
stupidnot very smart and asking for problems.- 8

I do believe it is as others have stated, your originating bank is holding on as long as possible for what ever reason.
I made transfer from my USA bank to Wise last week and took all of 2 minutes at most to show as posted in Wise ready for use. Now, the other way it took 46 minutes for to show up in my Kasikorn account. So, I was ready with a sternly worded email it was taking so long!
But all in all I would say first world problem, waiting few hours to send money half way around the globe on the cheap.

My son just landed in Narita en route to Bangkok. He said he, his mom and sister each had a row of 3 seats to themselves. He reports there were many empty seats.
Me thinks 'many empty seats' is no surprise. No surprise at all........

My wife needed a renewal. Called local DLT in late September. First available appointment 6 December.
She waited, attended appointment and now has renewed license.
That is all I got.

Its not trying to stop the spread..........
Its about slowing it down and making it manageable.
If 30 million people in Thailand get Omicron at a rate of 50,000 per day thats manageable.
If 30 million people in Thailand get Omicron at 250,000 people per day, that will create a massive massive problem and many people will die who might not otherwise.
Lockdowns, quarantines, curfews..........its all about managing the situation. They will never stop the spread, but they can delay it and slow it down and make it easier to handle.
Well, they have made it easier to handle for 2 years. Only (insert number here) to go............
Do you actually need a Sim Card?

The world certainly survived for thousands of years without SIM cards so I am sure I could survive without one.
However, the world also survived 1000's of years without electricity or an indoor Loo. But I do find the convenience of both worth the cost.
But as always YMMV
