  1. I would have to say in many ways Australia is actually cheaper than Thailand.

Im here on a year long work assignment in Sydney Australia.

As for Thailand I was shocked to see many monthly electricity bills basically the same as mine in Australia.

As for fruit I can get a lot cheaper in Australia as they sell by the kilo rather than paying per piece.

Cans of tuna either the same price or cheaper in Australia.

Coffee cheaper in Australia,a 200gm jar from 80baht

    Water free by the tap.

2 litre milk in Australia $2...= about 75 baht.

Bacon and cold meats..cheese cheaper in Australia.24 cheese slices from 70baht.

Obviously thai takeaway is more expensive but have found places here in Sydney that sell thai food for under 90 baht a plate.and big portions.

to compare the prices of australia and thailand is simply ridicoulous. australia is one of the most expensive countries in the world, similar to norway or sweden. thailand is still one of the cheapest countries. (only myanmar is cheaper, a teacher there earns 100 us dollar a month)

the mayority in thailand lives more or less happily with less than 300 us dollar a month.(everything included, rent, electric, school, doctor, clothing, transport, 2 children...)

i agree australia is cheaper for bacon ,cheese ,fruit from paddys market ,quality beer stellar box for 35 dollars, you can find a Massage in sydney for the same price as bkk these days About 100 Aud per half hour (naughty).

there is earning potention in australia with average salary about 1000 aud per week .

There is a growing why bother factor contributing to live long term in thailand (visas, atm fees, baht to strong) and im now seeing it as a two week million air destination or a place for overstaying long term alcoholics who cannot make it back home so they stay for the cheap whisky ,women and warm weather o

  2. standing at the side of the road for hours under the hot sun in the tropical humidity waiting for a lift. cant think of anything better.

its quite cool in chang mai in the winter.

If you know anything bout thailand you would know this mr samsen smarty pants

May be a little cooler this time of the year but even so, standing there too long will FRY your Brain.

Hmmm, how many hours do you reckon you stood there?

    bout an hour all up
  3. 2024 ute, she was reincarnated 10 years ahead of herself?

Did she buy you a bottle of beer or two?

I can see a pattern here OP, but I just can't put my finger on it.

You got drunk on train, got drunk at 7/11, got drunk in Bkk with expats, got drunk in Sydney...

cute young thai girl with high confidence seemingly just driving around the country chilling out.-

Come on Rangsit, that's very poor English, revealing your middle class education and sensibilities.

What happened to your down to earth, homely platitudes?

so if i meet a rich thai girl to help me i lose the earthy platitude?

  4. Would you hitch hike in thailand?

I hitched from chang mai to pattaya alone .

The lady who took me a quarter way was a cute young thai girl with high confidence seemingly just driving around the country chilling out.

Either way she was all on about that the women can do anything the man can do and was very proud so i guess she wad trying to prove a point in her dual cab 2024 model ute.

  5. Agreed a section for australians to complain about how much our country sucks and how we all cannot figure out how to live in thailand full time because the visa is too hard to get and keep up with and how our dollar is weekening by the day and how the pension for aussies travelling are being cut by the govt.

Or i could forget oz exists and skull a few beers and worship the loa khao god coincedently name loa khao.

  6. Gotta agree again Rangsit, Thais off the tourist trail are invariably friendly and welcoming, lovely people to spend some time, with but with one caveat, if lao khao is in that mix then all bets are off.

If you don't know the folks well, trouble can break out all of a sudden.I've seen too many fights or shouting matches erupt, either over minor slights and perceived insults or long term grievances brought to the surface due to dutch courage.

fights and shouting is part of the fun.

I put it down to entertainment value

  7. The Russians are broke. As are the Americans, the Brits, the Chinese, and most everyone else. (Except for the Nordic nations).

Norwegian Krone has lost 20+% against the Baht.

Why is the baht so strong?

what is the world coming to?

  8. i was in prachin buri walking around at 3 oclock in the morning by myself in and befriended local security guards sipping beers so i shouted them few ciggarettes and a round and i got nuthing but love .

Many times i just walk up to thais having a drinkin session and say hi then the offer me a seat and a glass of hong tong and ice with singha soda water and we drink untill the sun comes up.

Once i was doing a visa run from patts and i got side tracked and spent a day near ban chuen beach and got hammered with some old ladies doing the ramwong half the village showed up to see the drunken farang dance around in circles it was hilarious.

Pretty shameful to see the complaining about thailand these days when there is clearly a few bad apples doing bad but thais are hit and miss and majority are pretty cool and love to see cheery foreigner who dosent take him self to seriously and who isnt scared to speak a little thai and crack a joke or 2 .
