On arrival back to Thailand, present your new passport, with your old one, mentioning your re entry permit is in the old one, the officer will view both passports and your entry stamp will be in your new one.. I have done this.... I recommend visiting your immigration office as soon as possible to have your extension and re entry stamps transferred to your new passport.
  2. As others have mentioned, you will need to wait until you have 45 days or under left on your current visa before you can apply. You will need two copies of the application form applicable (TM 86 or TM 87) You may or may not be asked for proof that your seasoned funds came from abroad, if not already shown as FTT entries TM30 will also be required.

  5. End of the day, the bank statement and letter of balance confirms what you have in your account, that may or may not include a passbook. Eliminating the need for passbooks, looks to me like the way of future banking, except in regard to SCB, they have implemented it ahead of others.

  8. According to a number of replies, this type of account is accepted, including at Chiang Mai where Ill extend, so to answer your 2nd question "both" so win win........
  9. 1.5% interest as opposed to 0.9% with my current passbook account, one reason. Also, others have mentioned they use this type of account for immigration purposes, so, just waiting for someone who actually knows the answer, to comment, rather than a question answered with another question. The answer could be as simple as printing the app screenshot on the day and submitting with a 12-month statement?

  12. I was wondering, those of you who have your 800K in an app only account, such as SCB EZ with no passbook, when extending your visa, apart from a 12-month statement, what is accepted at immigration, in lieu of passbook pages, confirming your balance the day of application?

For those of you who have transferred your 800K for retirement purposes from one bank to another, I have a couple of questions: 1) Is it better to change banks shortly after renewing your extension, or is there no difference? In other words, for the following renewal, would I require statements from both banks? 2) If changing from a passbook account to an E account (no passbook SCB EZ) after the required 12-month statement is generated from the bank, what would I show immigration as far as a current balance on the day of application, given there is no actual passbook to update and photocopy for them? My Immigration office is Chang Mai. Thanks.
  14. No problems maintaining your existing account, however if you were to apply for an additional account, even with your existing bank, you would need to show a long-term visa on application.
  15. When visiting Cambodia in June, I was able to scan and pay (Krungsri app) in most places, which displayed a QR code payable in Riel, the same way we scan and use Prompt pay here in Thailand. However, currently, any QR I have saved, does not appear to work, they previously did, even when I was in Thailand. Local Thai QR scan and pay is working fine. Last week I was in Vietnam, both Bangkok bank and Krungsri apps were unsuccessful with any attempted scan, even though both banks promote the cross-border service. Has anyone had recent firsthand successful experience in either country? Please refrain from replying if your answer is theoretical, rather than actual. Thanks.
  16. Should be straight forward and the advantage you have is an appointment slot. Before your appointment, take your paperwork including appointment confirmation straight to the booking counter inside, to the right of the information counter. No need to get any queue number from outside. From there they will take your paperwork and ask you to be seated somewhere near counters 7 and 8. You will then be called for a photo and anything else they may require. Whilst you may not be in and out according to your 20-minute time slot, even if busy, you should be finished inside an hour. As you are extending, a reminder your bank letter will need to be of a 12-month statement type. I recently did mine with an appointment and have never seen so many people there, yet everything ran smoothly, the staff I spoke with were all helpful, I was in and out in 50 minutes, which is no big deal for something once a year.

  18. Looks like visa exempt to me minus 1 day which could depend on your arrival time, or the IO has coordinated with your outward flight date. Whether or not you can extend or not, will probably depend on your history and amount of land crossings per year. If you are one of those who lives here on free visas instead of the appropriate long-term visa to do so, then your extension may be denied. For an accurate answer, contact the immigration office concerned.
  19. Usually after 12 months of inactivity, the account will be frozen until you visit the branch with your passport and sign a form to reactivate. There is no other way. Unfortunately, any interest payments to the account doesn't count as activity. I'm surprised you were able to deposit into the account whilst frozen, even deposits are usually rejected. If your balance is said over 2000B your account even in a couple of years' time should have the same balance as the day it was frozen, less than that, however, attract monthly service fees, depending on the bank, once the fees erode the account to a zero balance, that account will be permanently closed.
  20. Probably easiest option is to take your passport to your phone provider in order to get a replacement SIM the same number as your lost one, then you can verify with Wise as before.
  21. Think the "genuine" tourist won't be too worried as they usually go home within 30 days, or some within 60 after a 30-day extension. The long-term stayers, without the correct visa though, may feel a little aggrieved. End of the day though, they are not actually tourists. ....
  22. The guy just to the right of the escalator, 1st floor KSK mall, behind a Samsung sign, has genuine product at the right prices with warranty and usually a freebee. I have bought a number of phones and a tablet from him.
  23. If your account has sufficient funds, usually over 2,000 THB, fees will not erode and subsequently close the account. The money will be there when you reactivate the account but the only way to do so, is to turn up to the bank in person, with your passport, they get you to sign a form, then its reactivated. Whilst you can probably still log on to your account, the balance may not show as usual but to check it, you can still access a statement, where it will show. As for attempting to transfer funds to reactivate the account, this will not work, also interest paid to the account doesn't represent activity, the activity must come from the account holder by way of deposit or withdrawal.

  25. Yes you can log in online and whilst the balance may not show as normal, you can still check it by viewing statements. Logging in, or monthly interest earned, doesn't represent activity.
