While waiting Vonage to send new hardware replacement, I cast about for telephone service provider and went with NuaCom. Operating out of Ireland customer service called my Thai cell number to consult. I went with them, a pricey one month contract of U$58 got me software to install on cellphone and computer. And follow up customer support. It ain't pretty, the telephone pad for dialing/receiving and, overpriced but it does work. I could port my Vonage telephone over to NuaCom number, so able to receive incoming calls to Vonage number. New Vonage equipment should arrive before end of month and will then discontinue NuaCom, a useful if pricey emergency solution. And FYI, Vonage would only ship replacement equipment to a US address. Getting it from US to Thailand via Fedex was on me.

Never heard of it and name Fanytel never came up in searches for a voip provider, BUT google searching the name it showed up with detailed info and positive reviews. who knew.

Timely topic and hopefullly will solve a dilemma that seems to of come out of the quake. The VOIP hardware died. Have used Vonage for over 20 years, carrying the little modem and plugging in to a local internet supplied router in whatever country. Attach a telephone and using my US telephone number registered with Vonage - have used when in many countries worldwide. Excellent call quality - outgoing and incoming. So that was the good news, until now when the Vonage modem fried and need of a replacement. They only ship to a US address. Their support India based and despite offering them to ship to Thailand on my UPS or Fedex account - the ONLY solution - ship replacment modem to my US mailing address. Once delivered I have to ship from US to Thailand. With luck I'll have a new modem within a month. A long tale to say it's great service when all is working. Cusstomer support on the other hand, like so many Customer Supporst offered by businesses - totallly abysmal and as near to useless as possible. Thanks to others here for the recommends.

Finally a topic I can admire the post. Bangkok has changed in unfortunate ways viz the Bangkok that made me smile night and day when landing here to stay 10 years ago. Evolution is it? The overall result of the struggle to recover from Covid? Unknowable probably. My complaint is the congestion and overcrowding on the roads and public transportation which seems to be unmitigated and increasing. Trying to avoid it, on foot, makes the sometimes ridiculous shrines to overbuilt iron and the poor quality service of pedestrian crossings - climbing ladders without the relief of escalators or elevators. As if there was never a thought to the result of stimulating the success of attracting tourism and replacing a civil city with built up highrise buildings. That's my gripe.
