Thailand is a truly a supplicant to China. It's embarrassing, and dangerous. Thailand undermines their very own legitimacy by allowing China's police to roam Thailand's tourist areas. This type of thing only makes Thailand look weak and incapable (more so than they already do). Not to mention the optics of sovereignty. Who is really in change here 🤔 and will the Chinese police be allowed to carry weapons and use lethal force to detain and arrest non-Chinese? Who's laws will they be enforcing, Thai law and Chinese law?
Why do they do this? Acquiesce or something else? Now you understand that they are looking for fighter jets and whatever. Can't operate them or take care but they DO understand that the region is hot and they can't sit idle anymore. A country (who knows who) will ask them to commit. Then what will they do? Stupid people in government......so it won't be good. Brace yourself because they will have to make a decision and I don't think the u.s. will come to help if they agree to anything with other countries.

Everyone that has a brain or actually does some research will know that the Thai government would eventually concede to this craziness. Thailand loves to play neutrality but it will come to bite them in the ass. IF they allow this, then they will allow anything and especially against foreigners....don't panic but keep you eyes and ears open. This isn't good for anyone. All of you foreigners with a pension sitting on your ass and don't care.....now is the time to at least look at what's going on in the world.

You do understand that it was all in the plan to begin with. Most people don't study or research but it was always set in stone for China to be the next #1 super power and that's why you are seeing very strong agression. The U.S. has already cemented their demise thanks to crime, political craziness and policies that the rest of the world won't accept. If Russia was killing children at the rate Israel was, the u.s. would condemn but knowing what they do and acting as if all is well...hmmm. The u.s. has helped so many countries over the years but they never really understood the notion of taking care of your own. If your own nation turns on you, Game Over. What does the future hold? Who knows but China is taking advantage non-the-less. Will be interesting to see what happens.
Anyone who laughs about this is delirious. Don't laugh, speak your mind.

They continue to rely on the fact that most Thai people don't care, don't speak, do nothing and it will work again. Until Thai people actually stand up and demand justice, the government will continue to make promises that they know won't come to fruition. It's sad but true. And honestly what is a Thai person to do with 10,000 baht? Are you serious? Good people will pay towards debt or give to their children or grandchildren, bad people will drink free for 3 months. Dumbest idea ever. Want to help, address driving - top 5 in the world for traffic related deaths, alcohol abuse and government manipulation over the populace. Do something that actually benefits Thai people. This government doesn't care but we already knew that once they stole the election.

While the important things kept untouched.Like I said, a bunch of idiots.

What about delivery? How can they easily forget how they ruined thousands of businesses (small and large) during COVID by banning delivery of alcohol. Now we can have ganja delivered but still not a single bottle of wine/beer/spirits? What a bunch of idiots.

Updated List of Airlines Who Have Suspended, Canceled or Adjusted flights to China. No sign of any Thai Airlines on this list from what I can see.

I think the import taxes are very high. And I'm not impressed by the quality of the equipment I've seen.
BTW: I'm looking for a Chuck Norris Total Gym machine. No luck, so far.
Your probably right. I did find this site but they don't show prices. I'll visit this weekend. Guessing prices will start around 50k. I'll let you know if I find a place with a total gym. I use to have one of those.

Anyone know of any fitness equipment shops here besides the store at the International Plaza? They rarely have sales (and are never willing to negotiate) on their treadmills/ellipticals and even worse they typically only have 3 on the floor for you to even look at. Everything else they have for sale is in a catalog.
Looking for treadmills/eliptical
Thanks,

They had it cushy for many years without paying any tax.
About time things change.
They will weep at the beginning, they will get used later.
We all paid home and land tax back in the old country.
Why should Thailand be different?
Thailand should be different because people struggle to earn a decent living. When your own country is DECREASING the amount they pay for rice, farmers make less. Not everyone lives in Bangkok. A tax for farmers doesn't even seem fair. I'm for taxing those that have homes/property valued at more than 1million baht or a restructured version of the this proposed law that doesn't take from those how don't have it to give. Imposing this for everyone will completely backfire. Next you'll be taking people to jail for not paying their taxes when in reality they simply couldn't afford to pay. "Land Development"? Yeah right. I'd love to see what their ideas for new land development are. Now if they said they'd spend the additional revenue to fix roads & improve safety, improve telecommunications and a develop strategy to create more jobs, then it's a lot easier to listen to their grand idea of property tax.... Thailand, the place of Grand Ideas.

If anyone wants to see live radar for Thailand and surrounding areas, just visit this link. Not sure how easy it is to navigate on a phone though.
Looks like all of the storms are SOUTH of Thailand. Nothing going on at all right now.

No worries, found someone at the hotel who needed kip. case closed.

The Thai consulate wants Thai baht. However, if you have another major currency (especially US$) it should not be too difficult to exchange it.
Yes, your right. I know that they would prefer baht, just wondering if they ONLY accept Thai baht as I had to transfer some funds to use here and can only get the local kip. If they ONLY accept thai baht, then I'll have to find an exchange. I'm guessing there has to be an exchange here somewhere. Perhaps the casino or something. Thanks for your reply. Hopefully some other folks will chime in.
-
Are there any currency exchanges at any of the hotels or anywhere in town in Savannakhet where you can exchange kip for baht?
-
My wife and I are in Savannakhet now but we had some unexpected expenses during our trip. Only knowing that they recently changed form same day pick up to 2 days left us having to purchase additional airline tickets..... so I've had to use the ATM here to withdraw cash.
Does the consulate here only accept Thai Baht or other currencies. We are going tomorrow and need to straighten this out pretty fast.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Unfortunately when you fly, you must come the day before which is 1 night, apply for visa next day which is second night and pick up visa next day after 2:00 which basically means night number 3 because the only flight out of there to bkk leaves at 1p.m. All good. We are just going to enjoy a few nights there and chalk it up to a mini midweek vacation.
-
We got totally screwed as we had already booked flights a while back assuming I'd be able to get my visa same day. If they aren't willing to make an exception we'll have to pay a ton of fee's and stay 3 nights instead of 2. Waiting to hear back from them. I can almost guarantee that they never took into consideration that a few people would've already booked flights ahead of time. We can't even change flights because there is only 1 flight per day from Savannakhet to Bkk and it leaves at 1:15. Can't pick up visas until 2 so we'd miss the flight. Horrible inconvenience. Hopefully they'll make an exception but I doubt it and we'll have no choice but to stay another night and pay a bunch of fees. Why don't they post important policy changes like this at least a month ahead of time so that people can make proper arrangements? Ok, so that was more of a rhetorical questions, lol.
-
This really screwed us bad. We booked a flight for feb1 a week or so ago planning to get the visa on the 2nd and come back on the third. The problem was that our flight leaves at 1pm and now we can't get the visa until 2pm so we'll miss our flight. We can't change our itinerary because Loas Airways has ridiculous policies. $400 just to change our tickets. Really not sure what we will do at this time. I'm guessing politely asking for them to make an exception would be something we can try and ask for but otherwise it would be cheaper just for us to buy new one way tickets from Loas to BKK. Horrible and unlucky timing I guess.
If anyone has any suggestion, please let me know but we really don't have a lot of options unfortunately.

Thanks Ubon Joe......
Anyone on the hotel?

Making a run to get a non-o visa based on marriage to Thai national soon. I've heard that the consulate has recently moved. Is this the correct address?
P.O.Box 513, Kaysone Phomvihane District, Savannakhet Porvince, Lao PDR.
If so, can someone recommend a decent hotel CLOSE to the hotel. We decided to fly in from bkk but were hoping to find something close to the hotel. Many
of the better hotels seem to be located outside of town. Also if anyone can recommend any decent places to grab a bite, that would be great.
Thanks.
