No need to do a border run for a new 30 day visa exempt entry. They could apply for a 30 day extension at a immigration office for a fee of 1900 baht.
It is still possible to a crossing at Ranong for a new 30 day visa exempt entry it they want to do that.
They’ve been told by Hua Hin IO that they need to leave the country after 90 days of their current visa, non-Imm O visa I think.

Swedish friends of ours need to do a visa run to obtain visa exemption for the last few weeks of their stay. We did the visa run to Myanmar via Ranong a couple of years ago and gave them details. They’ve done some research and believe Thai Immigration no longer allow this particular route. Can anyone provide definitive & up to date information on this. Thanks.

I received my non O visa last week. I scanned Council Tax bill as proof of residency. Also docs such as Water rates/ energy bill would suffice as long as they show your name & the address on the visa application.

If applying for a non O visa in UK you now have to do it online, postal or embassy visit in person are no longer acceptable unless you have first completed the online application and it is a minefield! You need the facility to scan and upload all supporting documents - proof of residency in UK, income confirmation, bank account, bio data page of passport + recent mugshot. These must be in JPEG’s/JPG format and each one has to be resized to below 0.5mb file size. If you’re relatively savvy with a pc and you own a scanning printer it’s time consuming but doable, good luck. I’ve just completed mine and am waiting for the response from the embassy.
Update. Application submitted online & passports posted to Thai Embassy on Monday. Passports with visa received back on Thursday. Job done! Have to say, I’ve always found the Thai Embassy London super efficient.

No problem in you case since you started out with a non-o visa and your subsequent entries visa exempt will not be considered out/in's to extend your stay.
Thanks Joe. Was was waiting for your words of wisdom.

We are an English couple who stay in Thailand for 4 months every year. The first 90 days are covered by non imm O visa. For the final month we take a short break in neighbouring country and use visa exempt stamp for the final 30 days. Next week we fly to KL, stay for a few days and fly back to Hua Hin on Saturday 6th. Due to a death in the family we are flying to London on Monday 8th attending the funeral and flying back arriving in BKK Friday 12th. Question - is there likely to be any issues with us re- entering Thailand within such a short time with IO?

The banks don't like travellers checks. Last time I used them the banks that still accepted them where charging 150 THB per check. I think more now.
They still do charge 153thb which makes it sensible to bring high
denomination cheques, we bring $500 dollar cheques which means the %charge is very low.

We recently entered at Padang Besar and I can confirm the Thai Immigration official spent an inordinate time inspecting our entry stamps and specifically recorded on our passports that this was our first visa exempt entry this year.

I previously posted about visa run following 90 day stay on non imm O visa. I only want to stay for additional 30 days, therefore will passport entry stamp at Malay or Myanmar border suffice or do I need to get SETV? British passport holder.

UJ, thanks for clearing that up for me.

My wife & I (both English)stay in Hua Hin every January for 90 days. Next year we plan to stay for an additional month. We stay on a Non-Imm O visa. Can we get the required extension at the local immigration office or do we need to do a visa run? If so, is the train down to Penang a good option?
