1. i found a wallet in the back of a taxi once and like a fool i handed it to the driver --i dont know what happened ,

i also have a friend who found a wallet with £2000-approx inside, he noticed it was by a turkey farm entrance, so he went in and asked if anyone had lost a wallet, - sure enough it belonged to the farmer, who took it back and promised my mate a free turkey for christmas as a reward! :o

Did the farmer settle up ? :D

hi dr, my mate was so disgusted at the meanness of the offer, that said farmer made- he declined!,telling him where to stick his turkey!

3. i beg to differ, regarding the statement -"microwave ovens heat the food from the inside"its a fallacy,if you heat a potato for only a Minuit or so, then remove it and cut it in half ,you would expect find that the inside is hotter than and the outside - but its not :o --- i thank you

4. hi zovox, you as a falang ,cant own any land in thailand, if ur wife owns some, all you can "own"is the house you have built ,sometimes ,once the house is finished and furnished etc the wife simply boots the falang husband out on his butt ,there is no recourse he can do about it :D

also if wifey dies wifeys family become the new proud owners of the land ,---get the lot on a mortgage , then youve got some fianancal power as you pay the payments!making it less lightly her asking you to "vacate the premisis" :o

5. as for the screw in lamps -get a smear of grease even vasiline onto the thread even though it melts with the heat it still helps

Would Preperation H be ok???

lol!even some ky gel is worth a go w/john--(i hope your no into screwing light bulbs into your ring piece btw!!

:D Nothing like that Andy,It comes in handy the day after the night before binge on Thai food that has plenty of power & sends plenty of burning shocks to certain muscles!!! :o

Another thought came to mind though.Would the dry Marigold Gloves from the kitchen provide adequate insulation for a light bulb change???

now your being perverse w/john!
6. thats good advice cobra

regarding the 12 volt battery issue, yes there are hundereds of amps available "on tap"from a car/truck /tank--battery but as it is only 12 volts there isnt enough volts to allow the amps to flow through you ,just go out to your car, lift the hood and grab each terminal of the battery --no problem!-- why is it that forklift trucks have a huge battery, but the voltage is limited to 55 volts?its because anything higher than55 is considered harmful-- on the other hand, if you were to link say-12 x12 volt car batterys in a "daisy chain ,then touch the ends you would get a big shock as you would be getting at least 150volts ,potential(12 batterys x12 -13 volts=144-152 voltsa 12 volt battery is actually13+volts) and that is high enough to carry some current through your body

as for the screw in lamps -get a smear of grease even vasiline onto the thread even though it melts with the heat it still helps

7. voltage carrys the current(amperage)the higher the voltage-the more amps will be carryed, and so-more lethal -

if you touch a 110 volt cable, you will only recieve about half the current than you would if you touched a 240 volt cable -i worked at a new marks and spencer store as an electrician last year(in uk)

2 guys were working in the mains room, the large armoured cable they were terminating became live--415 volts, killing one guy and seriously burning tother --not good!

Not true! The higher the voltage the less the ampage (voltage and current are inversely proportional).

Consider the formula - I = W/V. Amps = Watts over Volts.

If you have a 1,000 watt heater in los (highly unlikely unless in the mountains in December) and the voltage is 240, thus 1,000/240 = 4 amps roughly.

If you have the same heater in the States - 1,000/110v = about 10 amps, therefore half the voltage, double the ampage. But even when you have double the current in the States you're more likely to die from a fault on the los heater due to the voltage, or charge, being higher.

Another example would be a typical car battery able to dish out about 50amps but you certainly won't get killed even if you grab the positive and stand in a puddle of water because the charge is minimal.

But it's incorrect to think you will die, period, if you come into contact with high voltage because it also needs a substantial current (oomph) to be lethal. Insectocutors run at about 5,000v and inadvertently touching a bar on one of them (not recommended) will certainly give you a kick and will blacken your finger but more than likely won't be lethal, unless you have a foot in water.

With you're above example about the 415v pisser, you have a much greater chance of dying because it involves two or three phases (lives) to a machine and can draw exponentially more current. Even so, you won't necessarily be killed period, it all depends on the current it may be drawing and if it all goes through you or you just receive a taster.

Anyway, yes, Thai wiring is horrendous - seeing their sparkies (electricians) connecting cables when they're live, even when it's raining, beggars belief!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

hi jackr, i agree with you ,you must have misunderstood my post ,im not too good at explaining myself! the higher the voltage is the higher the amount of current will be, passing through the person on thr recieving end -as for feeling a shock from a 12 volr car battery --ridiculous--the voltage is way to low to carry enough current through your body-even the 45 volts mentioned is still safe to touch with no flow of current through the body

in the iee regs (uk)any voltage up to 55 volts it considered safe

8. This reminds me of perhaps one of the worst jobs in Burma - the guy who has to hold the two nails wrapped in the respective ends of the cable for a power drill into the plug socket - the powerdrill in question was being used by the resident sparky!

Then again, i've seen some fantastic "fireworks" from my windows on soi23 when it rains and all the powerpoles go off on one..

i stayed in the "white hotel" in pattaya a few years back ,the metal fire escape stairway on the outside, ran adjacent to the high voltage transformer!

the only way you could have got to the bottom, was to have squeezed past the 11-000volt cables ,killing yourself in the process no dought!

10. hi spee, ive just returned from phuket, my 8th trip, as u say the thai electrical system leaves a lot to be desired, especially the lack of grounding of anything,

its especially dangerous as they use 240 volts which is lethal, as opposed to 110 volts that some countrys use which wouldent hurt you much

,i dread to think how many people are electrocuted in los each year! just make sure you have a good quality rcd tripswitch fitted at the fuse box with a sensitivity of no higher than30 ma(milli-amps--.03 amp) at least that should afford some personal protection against electrocution!

11. Residents in tsunami-hit areas warned of possible diseases

BANGKOK: -- Local residents in Thailand’s six southern provinces hit by tsunami waves last week have been warned to be prepared for the possible outbreak of malaria, dengue fever and other waterborne diseases, according to senior medical experts.

Doctors from the Red Cross Society of Thailand and Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Medicine said there was a very real possibility of an outbreak of

leptospirosis, tetanus, respiratory diseases, cholera and Hepatitis B and C in the disaster hit areas in the next two month's time.

The warnings were made at a seminar in Bangkok on Wednesday.

People with infected wounds and high fever should immediately seek medical attention, Assoc. Prof. Dr Phanphis Suwannakool said.

The tsunami-hit areas in the six provinces--Phuket, Phang-nga, Krabi, Trang, Ranong and Satun--are very vulnerable to the potential spread of malaria -- six to eight times greater that in normal times – in the next two months, she said.

Residents were also warned against direct contact with dead bodies becase they could pass disease onto people, Dr. Phanphis.

HIV and Hepatitis B and C viruses in infected corpses can survive up to six days after the bodies have completely decomposed.

However, most germs die shortly afterwards.

12. social security!!!! lets start some english why's!!!!

why do the asylum seekers keep coming here!!!!!! because of the social security.

lets get back to basics and start looking after our parents and elderly people instead of letting them rot in old peoples homes.

the thai have their way of doing things so stop complaining.accept their ways instead of trying to make the whole world like the west.

i like thailand because it is different.just imagine that everywhere was like bush and blair-----what a nightmare.

start to enjoy yourselves there and stop complaining because T.I.T------THIS IS THAILAND.

WELL SAID. I am an Englishman living in Greece and thay have the same saying here, "THIS IS GREECE". If people do not like it here they can phuck off. And beieve me, there are a million 'why's' in Greece :o

... and in USA and in Russia and in Tunisia and in... and in... and in....

My question is: If you got so many complaints don't live there. If you think your life is miserable, take a walk around any hospital for incurable diseases... If that don't make you feel more fortunate, go visit my third ex-wife. :D:D:D

nobody is complaining about thailand on this thread, its simply a tongue in cheek discussion about Thai ways
13. why, when you are walking past a line of parked tuk tuks, does each and every driver you pass, whistle at you ,and ask if you want a ride?

and why is it that when your with a bar girl one night, then go with another the next night ,the former one goes crazy if she sees you!,yet when they are with you, they constantly talk on their mobile phone to all their "former"boyfriends?if you ask them who it was ,they always tell you" it was my brother!
