  1. I had a really bad experience today which really got to me. The wife and I went to meet one of her friends in Khao San road, not a place I particularly like going to, when three American tourists thought it would be amusing to point us and say "Sex tourist and bar girl". Now let me start by saying that my wife are quite young (She is 23 and I am 28). I snapped and told them to f***k off back to where they came from, at which point they quickly turned around and mingled with the crowd.

My wife didn't understand why I snapped and when I explained to her she wanted to go find them and confront them about it too. Apparently the waitress, at the restaurant where it happened, told us they were saying it to every mixed couple that walked past.

I've gotten past most of the annoyances of living in Thailand, dual pricing, visa regulations etc. But this really got on my nerves.

You are a better man than I am, I would have gotten out and kicked the crap out of the male memebers of the party.

  2. Just the box standard ex-sas story.

The guy claimed to be in barracks on the final night of training when the officers upon fire on them using live rounds, some died but it was "all part of the training".

He was then taken out into the middle of the outback (he was Aussie), and was left there with no means to get back except a chicken.

Oh, but he couldn't actually tell me that of course.

Live chicken or dead chicken? That makes a big difference. I the U.S. army, of course, we use live ones....

  3. I was teaching at a university in Nakhon Sawan for awhile and met a British ex-pat who told me his story over a bottle of cheap whiskey. He has been big-time professor at Cambridge and another leading school of academia. His father had been a flyer durring the Battle of Britain and had been shot down and lost. He had written several books that had been used by many academic institutions some time ago and written historical accounts of leading historical figures that had been well-received. Most of the time, durring his story-telling, he was drunk off his seat and his usual state was a state of intoxication. I really didn't take any of it seriously until he showed me the books he had written, with his picture in the back no less, his academic credentials touting his background and met a sober friend of his who confirmed his father's story. I guess he had a toss with his family when they found out he was a homesexual, he turned to the bottle to comfort himself, burned out and was forced to leave his teachings posts and ended up in Thailand jumping from one illicit affair to the other with always a bottle in tow. The crazy part is not what he purpoted to be true, because it turned out to be indeed true but that he had let alcohol take everything away from him and turned him into hollow shadow of his former self. Wow, now I am depressed. Ok, somebody cheer me up.

Have a drink, that will help! :) Seriously though, that is a sad story!

I know, yea!!! I should have told the one about the dog and the cat who walk into a bar.....

  4. Don't laugh, but that's a huge problem for me. Sometimes I just need to gorge myself on junk food and having to travel all the way down past Suphanburi is NO fun. I even tried looking up in Kamphaeng Phet, but they're even further behind the times than Nakhon Sawan.

My wife even cut-out the cupons...I think she was more hurt for me than I was...an empty abandoned McDonalds...Oh, the humanity!

  6. Maybe they just enjoy dressing this way? Also fair enough, but this would also lead me the question; maybe they just enjoy working in that industry?

you can always live in a country where the girls don't dress like they do here....like, oh I don't know...Iran. They even have special police who enforce dress codes...

  7. USA bashing post and quoted replies to post have been removed.

Wow, there are a lot of idiots out there. May his soul rest in peace and to those of you who have nothing better to say...go to hel_l. The cat will find a good home, don't worry. And the cat predition comment, shut yer man-pleaser. RIP Americano, now you can go home.

  8. Thank you for posting that, a slice of rationality to refute the reactionary anti-Al Gore mania on this thread.

You do realize that, linear timewise, we are at the end of what is know as the "little Ice Age", right? So temperatures would normally rise. The past few years, they have dropped, and they will most certainly rise again. It is progression. If the green house affect was based on perceived green house emmisions caused by man than why are those "holes" in the ozone layer at places where there is little human population as opposed to large urban areas...for example of ozone hole areas....the freakin' Polar Poles!!!! A lot of factory work there, I say.

  9. Does anyone know of any store in Bangkok that sells these?

For those of you dont know what I am talking about, most I would think, it is japansese mixed martial arts dvd's.

Where could I have luck to find them?

Try out some of the dvd shops at MBK, I got quite a few there including the Lone Wolf and Cub series. These are real and not pirated and cost more than the average Thai stuff but good qaulity.

  10. Effective June 1st, TrueVisions will be deleting BBC Entertainment, Animax and STC and will be adding AXN Beyond, All Sports Network and Nickelodeon.

I have googled All Sports Network and can't figure out what it is. Is it an all Thai sports network, or something else?

Nickelodeon is good stuff for the kiddies...and American Football you say....?

  11. As a follow up to my own question, I just found the description from Star below. I am hoping it is the same one and if it is, I am starting to get excited:

    All Sports Network

All Sports Network, ASN, a brand new 24-hour Pan Asian sports channel featuring exclusive coverage of some of the America’s biggest sports and other thrilling action events from around the world including the U.S. National Football League (NFL – up to 4 live games per week), the National Hockey League (NHL – up to 5 live games per week), and NCAA college basketball and football, March Madness, Motor-sports (such as Formula Drift, Touring Car, GT racing), Extreme Sports, Pro

You mean...finally...REAL football, the NFL...oh my, I feel faint...and, hard to breath now...College football? Oh god, now if they would show the game live and then reapeat it again later in the day...it can't be true...there is a Bhudda!

  12. I have been coming to Nakhon Sawan for 8 years now and on my first trip here I spoke to a guy in town who said there were 6 farangs who lived here permantly.8 years on I now live here and see more and more farangs around town and big c etc.

Could anyone hazard a guess at how many of us live here?

    regards

    Madyakka :)

I lived there for a short time and knew that it was doomed. A week after I arrived I learned the the local McDonalds had shut down. I got excited and everything as I saw the advertisements in the local newspaper and cable guide...about tore my heart out. I was told that it did not have enough business....where else in the freakin' world could a McDonalds fail except for Thailand?

  13. I'm not American,so i may have not a clue, but the Americans i see and talk look like enlightened people(opposite of redneck)It seems the redneck(luckily) stay at home collecting firearms.

    Some points.

While the term redneck may or may not be an Americanism, you don't have to be an American to exhibit redneck tendencies.

There are also degrees of redneck-hood.

Collecting guns, driving a beat up pickup, living in a trailer, displaying a Rebel civil war flag, knocking up a girl at 15, etc. would be an advanced case of American style redneckhood. Of course, rednecks are also associated with right wing politics, intolerance, beer drinking abuse, racism, low intelligence, and knee jerk hypernationalism.

Question: are Chavs a kind of British redneck?

Secondly, Thaivisa has a huge percentage of hits in the USA, from people who do not live in Thailand.

I voted a bastion. Certainly not 100 percent redneck, but the redneck factor is dominant. If you don't believe me, read the current Al Gore/Global warming thread.

Does a redneck mean two college degrees, several military colleges and several years of working around the world? Ah yes, Al Gore the scientist...how dare anybody disagree with his rantings....

  14. Hi,

I am an MBA student at Chiang Mai University. I need to do a survey on E-Commerce opinion of foreign tourists visiting Chiang Mai to complete my degree. I have completed all the course work except this survey which if I can complete in the next month will enable me to graduate. If you have a few minutes to spare and would like to help me, please copy the link below into your web browser to take this survey. Note that the survey does not require you to give your name or your email address.

    Thanks a lot !

  15. The WHO stated that scanners at airports were a waste of time and money and also that wearing a face mask did little to prevent catching any type of virus.

I question the timing of this latest outbreak. Its certainly got peoples minds off the total melt dowmn of the financial system espcially as the banks are saying they now need even more cash ?

    Paranoid anyone...?

  16. So, what is now the busiest bar in Soi Nana?

It is one of the air conditioned ex pat bars - chequers etc.?

Or is it one of the open air'ish type bars - big dogs, Bus Stop, Golden beer bar etc.?

Who has the best looking ladies?

    Who has the friendliest ladies?

Which bar is the cheapest from 1800hrs?

Which bar is the best fun in the evenings?

Which bar serves the best value and tastiest food?

Many questions and I am sure horses for courses but what do you think.....

I am looking to buy up a succesfull business so I will have to greedily watch this thread...speak you walking ATM machines...Speak!

  17. On second thought, after reading all this and finding out you are already married I have conceded that might possibly be what is known as a "manwhore". There is nothing wrong with that. But you might have to tell her up front that it would not be permanent, you are married and you are a "manwhore".

    Surely you mean 'male slut'?

As the OP doesn't seem to charge for it...

That is true and I stand corrected. No money changed hands. Maybe he was getting free refills or hotdogs or something than that would categorize him as a "manwhore".

And let us not forgot, as I read the story HE is the one that will be forking out the cash soon enough. :)

I can barely handle the one thai woman I have now...my love wife.
