  1. However you will still need to pay VAT on the assessed CIF value and the handling charge.
  2. HS Code 8471.702000 Hard Drives are exempted from import duty, but require a permit from the Department of Industrial Works to import, which would be impossible for you to obtain. The fact that the hard drive is used doesn't really matter - all goods have a value, and this will be calculated for the addition of VAT. Considering that a permit is required, if you receive a reasonable sounding invoice which you can pay to get your goods then my advice would be to just pay it quickly and move on.
  3. Yes, they are definitively more expensive. At least 1.5x and sometimes 2x. It's relative though. If I'm at the end of a soi and it's raining I'll pay the extra to not get wet walking to the main road. I also appreciate not having to constantly give the driver directions. I've heard Bolt is cheaper, but I've never used the app myself.
  4. That's not the point though is it. It doesn't need to be uncrackable. It just needs to be uncrackable by criminals who steal phones, or their associates. There is no known public way of cracking Knox, so on that basis I am happy to keep using my fingerprint to unlock my phone and my apps.
  5. No sorry, you are going to have to do your own searching.
  6. It depends what you mean by the law. These changes were not brought about by primary legislation. The Consumer Protection Act B.E. 2522 (1979) gives the Contract Committee of the Consumer Protection Board the power to regulate businesses and contracts. On 12 February 2017 the Contract Committee used these powers to issue a “Notification of the Contract Committee Re: The Stipulation of Residential Property Leasing as a Contract-Controlled Business B.E. 2561 (2018)” and published this stipulation in the Government Gazette on 16 February 2018. This notification made the lease of residential property a contract-controlled business from 1 May 2018. A second Notification was then issued on 29 January 2020, "Re: The Stipulation of Residential Property Leasing as a Contract-Controlled Business B.E. 2562 (2019)", which was published in the Government Gazette on 31 October 2019 and took effect from 30 January 2020. If you want to find a copy of the Notification then go to https://ratchakitcha.soc.go.th
  7. That's not what the law said about electricity. In essence, the law said that the landlord could not charge more than what they were charged, plus a small percentage to cover items like meters and wiring. This is important because landlords of large properties with multiple units often pay a commercial rate for electricity, which is more expensive than the domestic rate. At the minute, such large users are paying a little under 5 baht per unit, which means a charge of 5 - 5.5 baht per unit is absolutely realistic.
  8. Yes, your phone needs internet access. Either mobile data or wifi. You can use public wifi if you choose.
  9. You can use a wifi connection, it does not have to be mobile internet. The only limit is the code lasts for 15 minutes, so the coffee shop needs to be reasonably close to the SCB ATM.
  10. I have thought about it. My phone and my banking apps are protected with my fingerprint. If the thief is able to break Samsung Knox Vault protection they wouldn't be stealing my phone in the first place. They would be contracting for the biggest governments in the world getting paid untold sums of money to unlock phones belonging to very bad people. A thief would have more success stealing my actual plastic card and trying to use the contactless payment feature before I cancelled the card. They might get a latte and a tuna sandwich from Starbucks if they were quick.
  11. Each time you use the app for cardless withdrawal the app will generate a new code. You need to have an internet connection on your mobile phone for cardless withdrawal to work. The one time codes last a few minutes, so it is possible to use public wifi in a coffee shop/mall, etc and then go to a nearby ATM if you are organised. If you don't have mobile internet and there is no public wifi then cardless withdrawal won't work.

  13. About 30 seconds in the app, if that. You get your one time code instantly in the app, and once you have the code you can use it instantly. You do have to input a few numbers into the ATM (phone number and one time code) but it's a quick process. I would imagine it's going to also be a good option for guys that send their other half to get some cash from the ATM. This way you don't have to give them your card or PIN number.
  14. Even if I have my debit card with me I use the cardless option. No chance of getting your card skimmed or cloned if you don't use it.
  15. I think fully automated electric cars are inevitable. At the lower and of the market this means you can strip out even more components. There will be no need for driver controls, a centre console, a dashboard or even for all the seats to face forward. That's not really the issue though. What this will lead to is the loss of many unskilled driving jobs. Connecting fleets of these vehicles to ride sharing apps becomes more of a quantifiable business proposition as you would not have to deal with the issues of hiring drivers, or drivers in general. If you are not onboarding drivers, your head office staff can be massively smaller. In Thailand, that would mean a lot of low labour, almost unskilled workers back on the job market.
  16. You need to have the SCB Easy App installed on your telephone. Open the app, and click Banking Services > Cardless ATM. Select which account you want to withdraw the money from, enter the amount and confirm your mobile number. The app will then display a one time numbered code. Immediately you can go to any SCB ATM and press the Cardless ATM button. You will be asked to enter your phone number (the number you previously confirmed in the app). You will then be asked for the one time numbered code. Once you correctly enter the code the amount of money you requested in the app will be dispensed by the ATM. It's a good system as it is impossible to clone your plastic card, as your plastic card is never used. It is also convenient if you want to immediately give a family member some cash in an emergency (perhaps night time and they have lost their own card). Very easy to use if you have the SCB Easy app.
  17. Normally you have to attend one of their shops in person with your passport to get a replacement sim. This is an anti-fraud measure to stop people obtaining access to a phone number and receiving OTPs belonging to the legitimate phone owner. Give it a try though and see what they say.
  18. Moved to the Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao Forum.

  20. A commercial link from a bird guano and graffiti removal company has been removed. If you want to add links with relevant data it would be better if you try to use higher quality sources where possible:. Such as: https://theriverstrust.org/key-issues/sewage-in-rivers
