  1. And what about vendors illegally occupying sidewalks either side along Pattaya Beach Rd ? forcing pedestrians into the road ? and selling illegal weapons and counterfeit goods ?

Vendors will spring-up anywhere they choose, regardless of law or public safety.

Vendors believe it's their god-given to right.

Policing in this matter is 98% non-existent.

Oh, I forgot, This Is Thailand.

    Wrong!

    Policing the matter is 100%.

You think these vendors just set up on public property without paying the police?

These vendors would be gone in 5 minutes if they were not paying.

Australian National University is an independent source for fair information.

Take a look at the videos produced by their Asian Studies group.

This video is years old. Why do you post it now?

    Desperation, perhaps ?

I found the series of videos from the Australian National University informative.

Interviews with experts on Thai economic, military, police, para military & political circumstances.

Video #2 interviews Professor Desmond Ball, expert on SE Asian Military & security. Good stuff.

  3. I fixed a lot of pools.

Aint gonna find the leak if it's drained.

Then why don't you go there and find the leak Mr. pool leak expert. Obviously that is not happening now. Do you think the leak is going to find itself by just letting it continue to leak?

    Correct.

The leak will find itself. The water will stop leaking when it reaches the level of the leak.

If the water is not gushing out, have the maintenece staff mop up until it stops leaking.

    Wallah. There it is.

  4. I'm sick and tired of reading about these mental cases attacking tourists.

Drugged up men, disguised as women, trolling the tourist district, mugging, assaulting, drugging and defrauding our visitors.

You see Jingy...as I was typing, someone bigot posted some hate speech advocating violence against transsexuals. This is the kind of mentality that is out there and that they have to deal with day in and day out so blaming them for acting out on occasion is blaming the victim in my book...or maybe you feel they should just take it.

    I am a bigot? I don't think so.

I advocate eliminating the "Drugged up men, disguised as women, trolling the tourist district, mugging, assaulting, drugging and defrauding our visitors."

  5. A 28-year-old Buddhist monk has won two lottery tickets with a combined first prize of 5 million baht and pledged to spend the money for his temple renovation.

So, helping the poor people in his tambon wasn't at the front of his mind then, ever.

If he donated money to the poor, they would just turn around and donate it to the temple with the thought it would bring them good luck too

Either that or buy a bunch of booze.

  6. Or maybe they just don't like thieves.

Seizing control of the country and depriving the people of a say in their destiny is a pretty audacious theft in my opinion.

So what will your opinion be when they give it back, hopefully with improvements?

Has Thaksin ever suggested he'd pay the tax on Shin Corp he corruptly avoided?

This guy still thinks the Army marched in because of Thaksin?

You really need to do some research.

The Army took over because their people need to be in charge on D Day. Now you know.

  7. My "mercenary propagandists" are those UDD members who regularly appear on Peace TV who seem to have become reasonably wealthy while dismally failing to represent those they claim to. Or don't you remember the amnesty vote?

BTW while you think I'm on the wrong side of history, I'd much rather be there than siding with scum who think acts of violence are acceptable as political expression. who are you trying to be Gringo, Pancho Villa?

Please stop embarrassing yourself and read up just a bit. Quoting the stuff you have read in The Nation is really dumb. It's the stuff they want you to see.

    Aren't you curious?

There is no way The Nation is going to explain what the General is really up to or they would get raided like that TV station. Stop reading their crap.

Instead of suggesting that you are so much better informed, why don't you tell me what exactly in my post was ill-informed or incorrect. If you are not, as I suspect, referring to what I have posted, please refrain from associating me with your supercilious BS.

Sad. People siding with a military junta that won't even let them read or discuss the real news.

  8. "Courage and integrity" aren't words normally associated with Thaksin and his mercenary propagandists. I suppose it depends on how much red Kool-aid you've been drinking - I'd cut back if I was you.

Your "mercenary propagandists" are the good, honest hard working citizens that make up the majority of this country. You're on the wrong side of history here.

  9. I have read most of the banned books and I also read the Thai press.

Let me tell you. The Thai press is in with the Military/Elite and they desperatly work together to block the real story.

The people posting here supporting the military obviously have not read the banned material.

    Too bad. So interesting.

They still think the military took control to clean up politics. Silly.

  10. I've noticed the Junta supporters read the Thai press and the opposition seems to have read the secret history of Siam.

I'll throw my support to the educated contingent.

You keep harping on about the secret history of Siam, the truth, the real story etc etc.

Either enlighten us or admit you are full of it and have nothing.

    Mike.

The group you support have banned the material.

I can't post the book titles or name the authors here since the junta could shut down this forum.

...................."The group you support have banned the material."......................

Get your facts straight ! I have always said the best thing that has happened since the coup is the redshirts have been stopped killing innocent people, including children, on the streets. Have also said I would be happy if the Military returned to their barracks and an elected government was put in power.

If that makes me a supporter of that "group" then you have a strange way of twisting things to suit your agenda.

Concerning your book titles and authors, don't bother posting them anyway, james, if it is anything like some of the fodder I have read defending the Shins and attacking the Amart it is best published under fiction, or red propaganda.

And it is a bit late to be concerned about the junta shutting down the forum. Have a look at some of the blatant anti-junta material you and your ilk have posted since the rule was introduced banning it.

So you are not going to read up on Thai history and continue to make a fool of yourself here. Fine.

  11. A monk playing the lottery with temple donations should be the headline, no?

I am not quite sure if you lack reading and comprehension skills but I could find nowhere in the OP that said he was using temple funds.

What it DID say is that he pledged to spend the lottery winnings to help renovate the temple.

Obviously that does not fit in with your Thai bashing so I must assume that you either read something which was not there or you are not telling the truth.

It's a twisted place when monks are gambling and some numbskull defends the practice.

This guy is a Buddhist monk or a freeloading bum dressed in orange?

We will see if he blows the money on the temple.

  12. Can overthrow the elected government in an illegal military coup but can't hold a referendum on the new constitution?

    Funny boy.

Why on earth do you think it was an illegal military coup ? and do you know the difference between a legal military coup and an illegal one ? This coup had the backing of the Big man...... So , nothing was illegal... jamesjohnson, go look in your mirror and tell that fool looking back at you better to keep your mouth shut and let people Think you are stupid, than to open it and prove them right..! thumbsup.gif

The coup was illegal but he gave himself amnesty. Brave warrior.
