I decided against onwardticket.com because the 12 Euros only gets you a 48 hour reservation (2 week reservation extension for 1 Euro more).  I, however, am flying out in more than two weeks time.  I might have had to create one onward ticket to complete the COE process, let it expire and then create a second onward ticket to board the plane to Thailand, 3 weeks later.  What if the boarding personnel noticed a discrepancy between the two onward ticket reservation codes?  Would that mess me up?  I didn't want to chance it.  I found a "real" throw away onward ticket for approximately $60.  To me, the peace of mind was worth the extra money.

What country was your  destination for that booking if you don't mind me asking, seems reasonable?

So try the three Kasikorn branches in Chaiyaphum!

Krungsri opened an account for me with just proof of address (lease) and passport.  So did Kasikorn and Krungthai.

Bangkok Bank does not require a pink ID card...

So if I have a Bangkok Bank account with Bangkok Bank and have 400k in it, will Bangkok Bank Chiayaphuum be able to give me a letter confirming that for presentation to Chiayaphuum IO on same day I apply for the extension and update my book?

This issue has been successfully answered by help from Ubonjoe and Dr.Jack many thanks all.

  4. So if I have a Bangkok Bank account with Bangkok Bank and have 400k in it, will Bangkok Bank Chiayaphuum be able to give me a letter confirming that for presentation to Chiayaphuum IO on same day I apply for the extension and update my book?

    Bangkok Bank's requirements are here.

    https://www.bangkokbank.com/en/Personal/Save-And-Invest/Save/Savings-Account

Your fiance could possibly be your reference  to open the account or she might know somebody that could do it.

They will accept a document from your embassy used to prove your address. They normally will accept about anything with a stamp done by your embassy.

Thanks Joe, my fiancee obtained these requirements from her bank yesterday in Chiayaphuum.

I can get a Bangkok Bank Account in Bangkok through an agent.

However could I use this Account to do marriage extension at Chiayaphuum. How could I update and get a letter on same day to show 400k in bank to IO Chiayaphuum. Is that possible?

It is a problem if you stay at your gf house without any tenancy agreement as there's no proof that you will stay long-term in Thailand.

Banks will only open bank accounts to foreigners who stay long-term in Thailand and not any short-term tourists.

Remember, there are millions of tourists coming to Thailand every year , their bank database will be overwhelmed if they open to every tourist.

So it's better to open a bank account AFTER you get married to your girlfriend and AFTER you get a non-O visa.

Come into the country as visa exempt first, then a few days after marriage date apply for non-O visa. Then once you get a non-O visa, you can apply for a bank account.

Thanks Eric but to get a non O, would I not need a Bank account in Thailand?

As far as I know you need a residence certificate and a permanent address that is not a hotel or a mailbox or whatever.

Not sure if they want to check your visa or not.

At one point, Bangkok Bank didn't check for the residence certificate and didn't verify the permanent address was actually yours.  So it was much easier to set up an account there. I think they check all that stuff now.

Thanks, before at the Nong Bua Daeng branch it was just passport.

Because I will initially be on a visa exempt or T visa they may not accept my girlfriends address to get certificate of residence.

Tried quite a few banks first off was told Bangkok bank were quite amenable no joy, even the pink bank and the purple bank (both of which the Mrs had an account with) they wanted all sorts from granny's maiden name to granddad's inside leg I finally tried KBank (Loei) they couldn't have been more helpful just needed my passport I have heard it sometimes depends on the branch etc but as i said they were really helpful

    Anyway good luck

Many thanks, problem is my OI is Chiayaphuum and wanted bank near there for updating book and letter before doing visa application same day.

    @LoVeFuN

I don't have a pink ID card and could open many bank accounts.

What Bangkok Bank need is a residence certificate. Go get a res. cert from the immigration office.

In order to get one, you have to have a long-term tenancy agreement.

Not sure about the tourist visa part but I would suggest to get a non-O visa.

I would be living at my girlfriends who has her own house.

If I enter on a non O visa after quarantine of 15 days, then I would only have 15 days to marry and get Bank Account. Then 2 months for seasoning 400k.

    Is that not the case?

Would they issue one if on Visa Exempt?, what documents would I need after lodging TM30 or TM28.

  11. I also need an agent in the Chiayaphuum area to obtain a Bank Account.

I would have the funds but opening the Bank account is a problem from what I found out today.

I will be returning New Year and posted today in the Issan Forum.

If any agents are available in the above area I would be grateful for a PM.

  12. I will be getting married after  getting affidavit from Bangkok.

I will come into Thailand in the New Year, maybe Visa Exempt then looking for long term stay.

The Bank account seems to be the problem. Information from Bangkok Bank was.

    1. Passport 2. Letter from Embassy. 3. Pink i.d card.

Number 2 could be copy of passport certified which isn't a problem. But I don't think they will issue a letter of recommendation.

  13. Hi there, anyone know any agents that can open a Bank Account in and around Chiayaphuum.

Nong Bua Daeng with Bangkok Bank would be ideal.

Most seem to want Pink I.d card and letter from Embassy along with a passport.

I don't think UK Embassy even do letters ,only certified copies of passports.

Any help would be great, many thanks.

I've not tried it, but I don’t see why not.

The CoE site is ‘web based’ so should be accessible from a Web Browser on your smart phone.

Note: I encountered difficulties attempting to upload documents using ‘Safari’ (on a mac) and switched to chrome which resolved an issue with failed uploads.

Thanks for input I'm getting ready for any problems when I'm eventually ready to go.

    Post again nearer the time.

I can give you detailed instructions of how and where to go to complete your affidavit, translations and legalisation, with using an agent and avoiding the scams.

You can complete the lot in one day in Bangkok.

The ideal time to do it is when you first arrive and your then already in Bangkok.

I don't know where you'll be staying after arrival and marriage.

Yes I will contact you when arriving and starting the affidavit. Would be very happy for your help.

    Not quiet.

    Most Amphoe's where you register your marriage will request;

    1. Certified copy of your Passport, translated to Thai, then legalised by the Consular section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

    2. Certified affidavit, translated to Thai, then legalised by the Consular section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

These can both be completed together.

    1. Notarial and Documentary Services Guide for Thailand - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

    Affirmation of Marital Status

    2. Marriage in Thailand - Getting married abroad - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

From this page you can download the affidavit and book an appointment.

    3. Affirmation of marital status for Thailand - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

From this page you can the Guidance and Application pack for single (never married before).

Are you confusing a Tourist Visa with a Visa Exempt entry?

No return ticket required with a Tourist Visa.

Most quarantine ASQ hotels require deposit or advance payment.

As with flights, almost all are offering refunds should something go wrong.

Early next year is a long way off, things could change between.

I understand that I will need an ASQ Hotel booking at present time when entering Thailand . And so only with Visa exempt is a return flight needed and

with the Tourist Visa a single flight would be OK with the airline and Thai immigration. Many thanks again, it now gives me a clear path to follow.

The only non-o visa you could get would be based upon retirement. At this time you have to get the 40/400k baht medical insurance to apply for it.

A single entry tourist visa would allow a 60 day entry that can be extended for 30 days. That would be enough time to register your marriage and then apply for 90 day non-o visa visa entry based upon marriage.

Many thanks for your help  UJ and Tanoshi also...

  18. 11 minutes ago, Tanoshi said:

    Agree with UJ.

A Tourist Visa and 30 day extension would give you 90 days to sort your affidavit out  and register your marriage before applying for the Non O at your local Immigration office.

Were you previously married, divorced or widowed.

No never previously married, I understand that I will need an affidavit from UK embassy then have it translated and head to amphoe to get married to start this process.

My biggest concern with current conditions is that with TV I would need return ticket and could have to pay for quarantine in advance.

  19. I also require advice to eventually obtaining 1 year marriage extension. Starting from scratch, what visa would give me maximum time to get married, open bank account, then proceed to 1 year extension?

Obtain a tourist visa or non O immigrant from my home country. I am 71 and British citizen living in Ireland and plan this in early next year.

They have been applied for online for over a year ago to the embassy in London. They stopped allowing the honorary consulates to issue visas then until they started allowing them to issue tourist visas.

The embassy website states this for visa applications.

"Confirmation of legal residence in the UK or Ireland (if applicants are not nationals of these countries) e.g. long stay visa, residence permit, BRP card"

London also issues the certificate of entry for those in Ireland.

And confirmation of legal residence in UK, Ireland is by your passport showing In my case British Citizen? Is that correct Joe.
