Indeed, but as STWW notes, the breakers are there to protect the cable, so a bigger cable may also be on the cards.

Could be the case, but from what I could see on the pic the cable size for that breaker looked bigger than 2.5mm and was poss 4mm, so whilst the cable could be ok, the breaker could be 'light" for a high rated heater???

Whereas the cable could stand operating near its capacity for short durations, quite easily?

I'm unclear on the process if you switch method. So for you you appear to be switching from income method to 800k method, any technicalities with switching mid year?

Hmmmm..........not that I'm aware of Scuba, after all when I went last October and presented my lengthy list of documents which included two letters from different embassies, banking history from Bangkok bank, copies of my bank book and statements and the signed bank letter, the IO, after not being too pleased about having to wade through all that paperwork, suggested next year I might want to put 800K in the bank!!

So 3 months before my due date this coming October, 800k will go into the bank from my NZ account.

Always open for feedback if someone can see any glitches!

That looks like it was a loose connection that's been fizzing for a while. You should be able to replace with the same type with no issues.

Check all the other connections are tight (power off of course).

Agree with Crossy; also..............what size are the water heaters, in watts? These breakers MAY be a little light if the heaters are hefty buggers!!

how can you say something so stupid ? I have never found any wine under 12%

I have seen the Montclair with 10% ABV on the plastic containers, so it does exist. Furthermore many wines can fall under the 10% mark...........some Roses and sweet wines for example, esp those made for summertime lunch and light quaffing occasions.

The everyday quaffing/local wines in places like the Languedoc were often under 10% and that's why they were a favourite amongst those working in/on the vines, as they could drink quite a bit of it whilst working without getting too tipsy!!

the presidential speech was well conducted and timed as thereafter voters had a clear message for dems keep your solicialism of our programms, nbc poll revealed 50 % of us citizens favor capitalism vs 19 % in favor of socialism. yeah socialism was, is, will always be for losers.

    wbr

    roobaa01

Trumps use (and yours) of the word "socialism" is a ruse to garner favour with his supporters and those who don't really understand it............and the last line is it in a nutshell.

And as for tax hikes on the wealthy, well after Trumps tax cuts lined his and their pockets, not surprising is it.

President Donald Trump warned about socialism during his State of the Union address on Tuesday night.

More Democrats have called for Medicare for all and tax hikes on the wealthy, among other liberal policies, as the party took back a House majority last month.

While his opponents have not backed socialism, Trump appears set to use the ideology as an attack as he faces a difficult re-election bid in 2020.

Talking about Culpability where bribery, corruption and a complete lack of transparency are in play means nothing.

Except that they can all play a part in the grand scheme of things........they are inextricably intertwined here.

Agree on some aspects of your post but it seems that we will have to agree to disagree in the main.

It's not just the whoring, the rolling in judicial gutters with porn stars and their lawyers, the serial adultery, the cheating in his businesses, where he keeps the profits through bankruptcy and leaves his creditors holding the bag, his gluttonous appetites, his laziness, his narcissism, and his greed.  It's also that he serves himself to inappropriate goodies at the public trough, openly manipulates the stock market for his own personal gain, lies when the facts contradict him, lies when he doesn't need to lie, lies out of petty spite, elevates nepotism in the White House to unheard of diminsions, disparages others who put their lives on the line, while he cowered back home among women and children, boasts and brags about his achievements, while every one of his negotiations result in ritual humiliation and defeat for the nation he represents. And what has he accomplished during his presidency? A tax cut for the wealthy and their corporations. The average schmoe who believed him is just now finding out that their tax cut disappeared with their tax refund. He is a degenerate.

I have to applaud your post............just so spot-on as to be delightful!

Always a sound practice providing one knows what they are doing. The problem when dealing with the wiring here, as well as the colour confusion, is that, invariably there is no earth to provide you with a 0v reference point.

So when you put your test meter across  the two wires, it will tell whether there is a voltage there, but not which wire is live. This is why it is always a good idea to follow up with a simple test using an electrician's test screwdriver. It will only glow when it is touched onto the live wire, so you'll know which one is 'hot'.

As always with electricity, only start to mess around with it if you're sure you know what you're doing.

Also have the little test screwdriver to double check, just in case!!

I am a qualified electrical engineer/technician (or I was) and still dabble a little here to help friends and do work around my own apt.........still, never surprised at what I find here!

Sorry but it's not how things work. You strive to make everything as safe as possible. But humans are humans. Accidents happen. Culpability is a stupid lawyer thing because someone must be to blame. No matter what. Not saying it is the actual cause in this instance but mechanical things do fail sometimes, They always have done and always will do. There are crossover points in responsibility between the person doing repairs and the owner.

You missed my point. The whole safety culture is wrong in Thailand in many industries, services and walks of life. Raise the bar. No one is interested in doing this because of the points you stated. Baht and Backhanders.

Putting a few people in jail won't make any difference at all.

I think we must be talking at cross purposes somewhere along the line, although not quite sure where?

I agree that mechanical things do fail sometimes, and very often that failure can be traced back to lack of maintenance, lack of design, lack of correct installation and so on. And in the vast majority of cases something like this can be traced back to someone – – – someone with responsibility for doing something or responsibility for training someone or responsibility for checking something and so on.

Accidents do happen and again in the vast majority of cases they can be traced back to an event in which a human was involved, hence the reason why blame is apportioned.

I agree that the whole safety culture is wrong in Thailand in many industries and that is mainly due to the fact that money is not spent on ensuring that the safety culture is right – – training, retraining, checking the knowledge level of personnel and so on, as well as ensuring that the consequences are well known. And as for preventative maintenance here......forget it.

I am sure that you have realised by now that the baht is king in just about everything here in Thailand and is ultimately the key factor in a range of things from spraying far too many dangerous pesticides on food that we eat, through to not enforcing the crash helmet laws.

I am pretty certain that this particular boat was unsafe as regards aspects of its design and operation and any inspections that should have been done along the way would have been influenced by the baht and/or a backhander. IMO.

PS. Forgot to add..... “I know there are only four to five pages of plans (for the boat), which is suspicious because a boat like this is supposed to have more than that, about 70 pages. I have openly shared my thoughts about this and that it looks strange,”

Yeah, the 'lectric doesn't care what colour the wire is, so long as everything is the right way round all's right with the world.

Support that statement, however the problems that I have found in some places that are wired with their own colour coding, is that what starts off at one terminal as one colour, very often ends up in another terminal as another colour!

It would appear that Thai electricians have no problem connecting wires of different colours so that they can use up any spare lengths of cable they've got, irrespective of how it might "confuse" someone looking at the installation sometime later.

That's why I am very careful to test every wire with my voltmeter, irrespective of what it is supposed to be!

I always find it amazing in modern society how someone always has to be blamed. It is always someone's fault. Someone is always culpable. No matter where you are.

    Well that's how things work.............

If you are the owner of a company and responsible for its running and the welfare of its employees and customers, then you are also responsible and accountable for the maintenance of the "vehicles" and the training of the staff, as well as the safety procedures and so on.

The old saying, "the buck stops here", was not something just dreamt up out of nowhere, as it does apply to many things in life.

The problem here is that such scant regard is given to things that really do concern safety, in return for the baht and backhander and because it's a way of life (or death) these things are going to continue to happen.

And it pays to remember where you are!!

Maybe go for a microwave oven that can also bake.

Yes, that's a good point and something I did a few years ago and have never regretted it.

The microwave I have is a Sharp "Perfection" with a double grill, and it can do just about everything from the obvious microwaving through to grilling and also act as a convection oven with even a few programs in between which utilise part microwave and part convection options.

Never needed anything else even though I do a lot of cooking (but I do have a small gas cooker outside on the balcony for cooking the smelly Thai stuff) and think that this microwave is wonderful, although I think the model has been superseded, so the OP might want to look around.
