  1. First, let me start by saying I will go in pretty much every country in South Asia, including Vietnam and China, I know Vietnam is known for these kind of food but so is Thailand, so I am looking for the authentic thing, not a tourist attraction or overpriced food, in other words, if its not eaten by Thailand natives, I won't eat it. If you have the exact location and/or price of where I can get it, that would be awesome.

Let's start by stuff I have never eaten

    -Alligator/Crocodile

    -Snake

    -Snake blood and beaten heart

    -Rat

    -Dog

    -Cat

    -Balut

    -Century egg

-Lion/Tiger or any kind of rare game meat you can think of

And stuff I've already eaten but absolutely want to find in Thailand/South Asia

-Snails (is there something like this in Thailand or should I wait to get in Vietnam ?

    )

    -Frog Legs

    -Beef Jerky

-Prosciutto/Jamon or any kind of cured meat

    -Olives

Thanks and feel free to suggest anything that isn't on the list, just not seafood

You disgust me. How about you chop off your own weiner and eat that so you don't procreate..

This thread should be locked since it advocates illegal activities.

If I had a dying limb to be amputated, I'd certainly ask to keep it so I can eat it, I wouldn't mind a weiner either, not mine though, I care about mine.

There nothing in this thread that is illegal, at least in my country, I did meant lion not tiger though, but still, why wouldn't people eat tiger if they were raised in a farm, just like pork, chicken and beef that you eat all the time...

I don't want to break any law, I wouldn't eat anything that isn't farm raised and/or illegal to eat. I am just a big fan of trying new stuff to eat and I won't have a second chance after going to east asia.

I am sorry if I offended anyone (it seems like I did) but if there anything wrong with what I want to eat and you have good arguments against it, go ahead and change my mind.

I won't ride any elephants because I know they are maltreated and its not good for them, I won't go to a tiger zoo because I know they are drugged and fed with boiled chicken everyday

I do care about that stuff, I just don't understand why wanting to eat a tiger/lion or any kind or rare meat would make me a monster.

  2. At the markets, look for the people who (excuse me generalising) are not dressed up in nice clothes....these may be country people come into town to sell.

A couple of weeks ago I saw a stall of a curry merchant....pretty ho-hum and normal, but the lady was obviously not at home in the city, so I took a closer look... "gaeng nok" (curried bird...no particular bird named), gaeng ling (curried monkey), gaeng gwaang (deer), and gaeng gra-rok (squirrel), all lined up in pots.

I tried the monkey. Ho-hum...nothing to rave about...may as well have been sold as "curry tough meat".

Wow, this really sounds like the kind of thing I'd want to try, in what city where you exactly ?

  3. I'll be at Suvarnabhumi airport around 10 am on july 10th Bangkok time.

    Thai Lion Air.

    Depart : 10 Jul , 14:00 Don Muang Airport(DMK)

    Arrive : 10 Jul , 15:10 Surat Thani Airport(URT)

    Base Fare THB 645.00

Total Fuel Surcharge, Taxes & Fees THB 150.00

    Total Amount THB 795.00

There will be companies at the airport offering island transfer for 400 baht.

I was about to book when I went to check for the baggage allowance, first 15kg for the check in luggage is really not much, mine will probably be around 20-23kg since its what I am allowed with westjet and air china, the fees are 595 baht per kg, so its out of the question, also, the carry-on luggage is also too small, my bag is too big as well as my friends bag.

  4. next trip, consider LOMPRAYAH Service for bus-katamaran high speed-ferry from Bangkok to Samui. Their office is in the Soi Rambuttri (paralell to Khaosan Road) and after buying your tickets you can leave your luggage at the office while you go shopping.

    http://www.lomprayah.com/ww/E/booking_buffet_1.aspx

they also offer the trip from Surat Thani airport to Nathon (Samui)

    http://www.lomprayah.com/ww/surat/surat.html

Their buses leave by the evening. It's a night bus ride that takes you to the Donsak Ferry Pier, arrives early 6 in th morning and the high speed katamaran stops at Koh Tao, then Ko Phangan before its destination Maenam Beach on Ko Samui.

It's a little bit cheaper than flying and definitely a nice katamaran trip ! They also offer a quote on the trip to the Hotel you booked on Samui

Mind . . . . if you arrive at Samui airport or Nathon ferrypoint, you still have to pay for the transfer to the hotel, most posters here seem to forget

I think I will go with thai lion air but I'll take a look at LOMPRAYAH for the airport to koh samui transfer.

  5. I'll be at Suvarnabhumi airport around 10 am on july 10th Bangkok time.

wow thanks, this is incredibly cheap, also there seems to be a promo right now at 595 baht, you think I should buy it now ?

  6. yeah I edited my text, didn't know DMK was the airport at first lol

DMK is the old airport, for budget carriers.

    When are you going?

I'll be at Suvarnabhumi airport around 10 am on july 10th Bangkok time.

edit: going to sleep, will respond tomorrow

  7. I had no idea there was a left luggage facility at DMK, anywhere actually, do you know the exact address and approximate cost ? By shipping I meant mostly to get sim cards, bus tickets and some other stuff.

    http://donmueangairportthai.com/en/549-luggage-storage-services

    For suvarnabhumi.

    http://www.suvarnabhumiairport.com/en/46-luggage-storage-services

    For train station.

Left luggage: If you need to leave your bags somewhere, there's a staffed privatised left luggage office at the rear left-hand corner of the concourse,

It's open 04:00 to 23:00 daily, prices 30, 50, 70 or 80-100 baht for a small/medium/large/extra large item per 24 hours, although what constitutes a small or large item isn't specified!

yeah I edited my text, didn't know DMK was the airport at first lol

  8. Are you going with train-bus-ferry to Samui or flying down.

if flying, you have left luggage at the airport.

    bus-ferry

    You mean the train-bus ferry.

AirAsia has a Flight-bus-ferry combo starting at 990 baht via Suratthani or Nakhon si Thammarat, much more convenient and cheaper than the train combo.

AirAsia flies from Don Muang (DMK), as said there is left luggage there and good shopping nearby.

I actually found something slightly cheaper, its by train, overnight sleep second class but 17 hours. I wouldn't mind paying for a flight if it worth it, but the best I could find is 1500 baht to surathani not including taxi to ferry or boat price.

I'm really open to anything to be honest

  9. Theres a left luggage facility at DMK. There is a big shopping centre a few km's up the road from the airport, Rangsit Future Park. Is it not easier to stay near the train station and do your shopping in the city?

I want to leave my luggages closer to the train station if possible, I know some hotels do it but normally its after you rented a room. By shipping I meant mostly to get sim cards, bus tickets and some other stuff.

  10. I wanted to take an hotel close to the bangkok airport but its like 40min away in taxi from the train station (I am going to koh samui the next day), we need to make some shopping in bangkok and there not much shops around the airport, leaving my luggages at the hotel near the airport is a bad idea because we'd have to take the taxi 3 times, since we don't want to go around shopping with all of our bags. Is there a way to pay a random hotel close to the train station to hold our bags, is it cheap ? is it safe ? Or should be absolutely cancel the shopping OR take a hotel close to the train terminal right from the start ?

  11. Many games have servers located in Singapore. DOTA2 is the one I play the most. Most shooters with dedicated servers will have plenty hosted all over. I'm playing Killing Floor 2 a fair bit at the moment, and there are hundreds of local servers that I get a great ping to (sub-50ms). Likewise, the Battlefield games have no shortage of SEA servers.

As for MMO's, I don't play them much, but I played WoW for a while on the EU servers and it was perfectly playable at around 200ms. For those type of games I can deal with a slightly higher ping.

Basically, most games you play now will likely have servers located in Singapore or even Thailand. The main obstacle to online gaming here is your connection. Rural areas, on the whole, are very bad for gaming, as are shared Wifi connections in apartment buildings. Try to get your own dedicated line and you'll be fine. Also, I'd recommend 3BB or True for your internet provider, as I've found ToT to be terrible for latency.

Thanks, yeah, I will be renting a house in chiang mai for a few months, most places already have internet so I'll make sure its 3BB or True. Do you know how getting your own dedicated line work ? Here you pay for the installation (around 40$ US) and there no contract so you pay per month and when you have to go you call them and they remove your services for free, you have to bring back the router though. Do you think I can rent a house and get something decent installed, if there no internet already, like in the city of chiang mai or close.

  12. Hi, I am not in thailand yet, I am in north america coming to thailand next month I heard I won't really be able to play on my servers from thailand, at least not at a comfortable ms/ping. I'm gonna need to get used to whatever is available in thailand, anyone know good games , especially MMORPGs, RPGs, HacknSlash RPGs and FPS Shooters with servers located in asia ? Can be incoming games or old games, it doesn't matter, keep in mind, I have a high end gaming laptop and will be able to run everything.

  13. You had an interesting discussion topic until "Tiger" appeared on your list; trolling or are you really that ignorant?

    http://www.cites.org/eng/gallery/species/mammal/tiger.html

Read this and go away and have a quiet think to yourself for a while.

To be completely honest, I might have been a bit far and I am indeed a bit ignorant, however, I know a place that sell ANY kind of game meat online, they are just extremely pricey; http://www.exoticmeatmarkets.com/, so if there was something similar in thailand, I am sure it would be much cheaper and I wouldn't have to order online, so why not ask ?

  14. Isaan if full of "unconventional" food. Here is just a sampling, including a tadpole dish. "Jungle" or rural markets often display plants and animals harvested from the surrounding area. One of these markets is located on Hwy 210 roughly mid-way between Nong Wua so and Nong Bua Lam Pu. Not far from the entrance to the 150 Million Year Old Shell Museum.

    http://www.tourchoice.com/blog/strange-foods-northeastern-thai-isan/

Thanks ! I'll definitely go there when I get the chance

  15. OP, one local delicacy you should consider is tadpoles in phak bung. The stems of phak bung (which are hollow) are placed with tadpoles in a pot full of broth. The liquid is then put over a flame. As it warms up the tadpoles swim into the phak bung stems, and eventually die there.

The dish is also made with small fishes.

And I'm not sure if eel is weird enough for you, but here they do skin it alive, which adds to the ick factor.

Wow that tadpoles thing is really interesting, I must try that, like I said in a previous post, I am intolerant to seafood, that include fish, basically anything from the sea, but frog legs, alligator, animals from a lake/swamp is fine, so I am not sure my stomach will tolerate the eels, might give it a try though.
