  1. Whatever happened to Ostland Capital, the mysterious shell company that won the bidding for this contract? Now we're only hearing about World Medical Alliance, which sounds like an impressive name until you look them up and discover that they're primarily a real estate company trying to become a player in Thailand's nascent cannabis industry. Would it be too difficult to just do an ordinary government procurement like other countries do?
  2. I must admit that particularly pisses me off with them. That's the default setting, but you can adjust your preferences so that prices are always displayed inclusive of taxes. It's not that difficult to do, but I agree it's irritating to have to do it at all.

  4. In the case of the US, the vaccination question is not so important, since it doesn't affect entry into the country at all - a negative Covid test is needed regardless of vaccination status, and no quarantine is required even for unvaccinated travelers. That having been said, while it's true that no version of AZ has been authorized for use within the US, the US CDC does "recognize" it in the sense of accepting it as a real vaccine for those who were inoculated abroad: "COVID-19 vaccines neither approved nor authorized by FDA but listed for emergency use by the World Health Organization (WHO): People who have received all recommended doses of a COVID-19 vaccine that is listed for emergency use by WHO do not need any additional doses with an FDA-approved or FDA-authorized COVID-19 vaccine." https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/covid-19/clinical-considerations/covid-19-vaccines-us.html
  5. What is being suggested to you is illegal. In order to follow this suggestion, you would have to swear a false affidavit at the US Embassy (stating that you are free to marry, when you are not) and then falsely tell Thai authorities that you are currently unmarried. Would you probably get away with it? Yes, probably. Would you be breaking the laws of two countries? Yes, definitely.
  6. "We will start welcoming large numbers of vaccinated foreign tourists on October 1." "Also on October 1, we will start requiring proof of vaccination from the Mor Prom app to enter restaurants." - But vaccinated foreigners won't have records in Mor Prom. How will they be able to eat at restaurants? "Ummm..."
  7. If you didn't use a Thai ID number to register, the system would have assigned you a 13-digit "ID number" at the time of your first shot - it would appear on your "Covid 19 Vaccine Appointment Card" for the second dose, and probably begins with 60000. If you didn't get the appointment card, the number should appear again on the document you get after the second shot.
  8. The idea was supposed to be that the app would provide whatever proof you needed for domestic purposes within Thailand, and the yellow book was only for international travel. In reality, Thailand is the only country I'm aware of that took the phrase "vaccine passport" completely literally and decided to produce a passport-sized cardboard booklet (for a fee, at limited locations, with a needlessly bureaucratic application process). Other nations interpreted the phrase as referring to a general concept, and produced (all free and provided automatically, as far as I know) electronic or paper certificates with varying levels of security. As a result, your hospital-issued document with the QR code will probably be honored almost everywhere for international travel - it's definitely more "official looking" than the US card, for example, and most countries and airlines would actually be rather surprised to see a yellow booklet instead.
  9. It isn't so much that the Siam Bioscience AZ isn't accepted, but that the UK currently doesn't accept vaccinations performed in Thailand, period - even a double dose of Pfizer given here wouldn't count. For whatever reason, they only honor vaccinations administered in the UK, EU, or US.
  10. They could also buy kits directly from manufacturers with a bulk discount, instead of from middlemen with a markup above retail, and they could waive all duties, import fees, and VAT - that would address the high cost.
  11. "Phra Maha Sompong said the meeting participants agreed that Buddhism should form 70% of content in their live sessions and humor had a 30% share. However, he asked to have equal parts of Buddhism and wisecracks at the beginning of such sessions to attract audience."
  12. If anyone here can figure out what this word salad is supposed to mean, please let me know. Is he implying that the email was fake?
  13. No one has ever really understood precisely what a "sealed route" is, and now we have "flexible sealed routes" being discussed, just to add to the confusion. I'm sure visitors will love reporting all their movements to a hotel minder, and I'm sure hotels will love having to keep track of all their guests... And what exactly is a "high capacity visitor"? One with a high capacity to spend money?
  14. I don't understand how "opening" certain Bangkok neighborhoods while keeping others "closed" could possibly work, but these officials always fantasize that they have more ability to control things than they actually do.
  15. Quite so. I spent last weekend at a large hotel there - having driven down from Bangkok - and no one ever asked about my single AZ shot or indicated that it was an issue. I'm not sure how much more "open" to domestic visitors it could be.
  16. It's not the plural of "Taluga"! A better transliteration would be "Thalu Gas", which, as others have explained, is the name this group has adopted to indicate that they ride through clouds of tear gas.
  17. "Some of the monks’ posts have attracted more than 200,000 views. "No one could appreciate their humorous teachings, said Srisuwan, adding that the livestreams are a tool for exploitation." Evidently there are at least 200,000 period who can appreciate their humor, even if Srisuwan can't.
  18. They will also be procuring 70 million unicorns for free distribution to the entire population beginning in 2023
  19. Visa regulations at 9 FAM 504 govern where US immigrant visa applications should be made - this normally applies to fiance(e) visas as well. 9 FAM 504.4-8(A) (U) Determining Place of Application by Residence, Not Country of Nationality (CT:VISA-1302; 06-16-2021) a. (U) Background: Department regulations designate the applicant’s residence as the determining factor for the place of application under normal circumstances... b. (U) Defining Residence: INA 101(a)(33) states, in part: The term residence means the place of general abode; the place of general abode of a person means his or her principal, actual dwelling place in fact, without regard to intent. If an applicant can show that their principal dwelling place is or was in a specified country, the fact that the applicant does/did not have, or intend to have, the status of a lawful permanent resident or any other legal status in that country is not relevant. 20. Individual reactions are all over the map, but most people in other countries seem to report having worse side effects after the second dose than the first.
  21. There's not necessarily any connection between adoption and those things you mentioned. In many or most jurisdictions in the US, for example, you can adopt almost anyone you like, as long as it's not for a fraudulent or illegal purpose, but adopting an adult doesn't convey to them any immigration or other benefits - it's usually just a sentimental thing.
