Well seems you feel the need to try and pull the guy down for having sex at 70
If he and the wife are cool, and enjoy, where is the harm? He's just telling it how it is ?
Telling it like he thinks he it is would be closer to the truth... ????
Does anyone really believe 70 is the new 20?

Will immigration accept immigration's own 'Letter of Residence'??
It would be entertaining either way! ????

I was hoping one trip to immigration would be enough but I was wrong. It's also hard for my wife to get week days off let alone another one in a weeks time. So forgive me if I posted another thread with a changed headline in hopes someone can put some sence to why a imagration office wants the renter to have a copy of the owner's title of the deed and financial contract.
So sorry that changing the title bothers you.
I just hope that a new title will make it more specific to possibly obtain some useful info or similar experiences other than
"imagration is making it so I use a agent"
There is usually more than one way to satisfy this requirement
If you go to your embassy with a rental agreement or utility bill and 1800thb or so they can make you a notarised certificate of residence which immigration will accept
Letter from your local police will work too if you are on good enough terms with any of them to ask for a favour , immigration won't refuse once they see RTP headed paper saying "mr farang lives at condo xyz" etc
Aside from that, you can try again and hopefully get a different officer who will accept your rental agreement or bite the bullet and pay one of the agents to "fix it" without much stress ????

any focus on "day trading" is irrelevant. those of us who are financially comfortably heeled are managing their offshore assets with a considerable amount of "work in Thailand" which consists of hours or even days of specific research especially when the emphasis is on investing in high yield / high risk assets.
No guts, no glory! ????
High yield/High risk assets are the only ones that won't bore you to death, as long as you can afford a bit of risk to ride out the storms lol
Making a couple of % less than inflation on cash in a bank shouldn't even be categorised as an "investment" in my opinion...

Interesting if I can use the money gained from buying cryptocurrency a few years ago as money from abroad.
I suppose I'll have to cash it in a bank abroad then transfer here which is a total annoyance. Maybe I can just send it to a Thai bank?
You can sell bitcoins in Thai to bx.in.th if you want and they will send the funds to your Thai bank without any international transfer fees, might be easier /cheaper

...when you transfer all the money you need in Thailand in a calendar year in the first week of january. that's what i did day before yesterday. personally i think it's overkill because there were years when i bought cars which did cost a multiple of our annual living expenses. but the "transfer in january" was the brilliant idea of my "better half" and it makes her happy.
The way the exchange rate is going she might have saved you some money bringing in a lump now rather than later.... ????

It was window L40 all the way to the left. Never had to use this officer before. Maybe because my
Q number was 4th in line she was disappointed I wasn't with a agent.
I did notice a lot of gift bags pilling up for maybe "new year" gifts from agents.
No tips but shure a hell of a lot of brown paper bags.
Has anyone had to show their landlord's deed for the condo or housebook for a exstension before?
I showed them my phone bill from true once and they accepted I lived there based on just that

lkv: Well, they're part of the AEOI or under the process of becoming a member, almost the same. Sooner or later but they're going to exchange that information. Yes, that makes sense, thank you! I have asked so many people about the tax treatment of trading income and most people just say that it's not taxable but when I tell them it may be locally sourced since it is considered to be locally sourced in SG or HK then they go quite and doesn't seem to know the answer because I don't trade stocks but currencies and I have triple digits positions in a month so we are definitely not talking about investments here. Your point makes sense but you know if I don't pay any tax but one day if they get information within the AEOI framework and decide to investigate my tax matters because I have X balance and I pay zero tax in Thailand, then I would be in a really hot mess.
Crisu: I know, I read those and talked with many tax advisors (not KPMG though) but the question is not whether foreign sourced income is taxable on the remittance basis or not but whether trading income itself is foreign sourced if let's say the taxpayer is trading on the currency market with a foreign brokerage account or it's locally sourced because the trades were placed from Thailand.
Nobody will know, ask or care where your laptop was a previous tax year ago when you pressed the buttons that generated the profits thousands of miles away... ????
For extra peace of mind you could open a savings account somewhere else (not your home country or Thailand) and transfer your trading profits to that account and let them sit for a year or more compounding interest before transferring to Thailand
That way you can always prove to Thailand your funds are from a previous year and you don't need to go through your home country either if you don't want to
Some people I've worked with don't even wait a tax year to bring their cash in and just spend it immediately on hotels girls and partying but i would personally wait a year just to stay on the safe side if possible lol

BertM, Ks45672: I would like to stay legal and fully compliant. Indeed, I can't use my former tax id since I'm no longer a tax resident and I need a local one from Thailand. However, it has nothing to do with not paying taxes. In fact, I'm the one wanting to pay if I have to pay and truth to be told it's still not clear to me whether my trading income is taxable in Thailand or not. In other words, I cut all my ties with my country of citizenship not for tax reasons but for monetary reasons, i.e. I did not want to maintain a home in my home country considering I ain't gonna go back there anytime soon so I simply told the tax man that I leave permanently, I ticked the right boxes, paid the taxes on my final tax return and I left. Now I'm gonna need a tax id in Thailand because I assume that my trading income is fully taxable in Thailand for two reasons: 1) I trade actively, on a daily basis, and these are speculative short term positions; 2) I trade derivatives only so I do not own any assets when I'm in a position. Consequently based on the Thai income tax act that I found online on the tax authority's website, I believe that my trading activities would be categorized as doing business in Thailand and thus subject to income tax like any other locally sourced income.
Again, I'm not a US but an EU citizen and my bank and brokerage accounts are located in the EU not in the US.
I have friends in similar situations, some trade stocks , forex, cryptocurrency, oil and gas etc for many years and they don't pay tax to the uk/eu or to thailand either and they just abide by the "wait 1 year rule"
I don't think there is a specific law for trading derivatives but pressing the buttons on your laptop to manage your own overseas financial assets wouldn't be something i would worry about personally
If they don't ask you for tax and don't want to give you a tax id despite asking then what can you do about it anyway? Except enjoy the money... ????

Yes I agree. But that was a scan made to verify a picture and match it with a person. I do not think that a passport photo will be scanned and compared to a database of hundrets of millions of passport pictures in the Immigration database. This would even nowadays take hours. I am sure that they compare the person standing in front of the desk to the passport photo in the passport. That should be straightforward. My question is rather how the new passport can be connected to the old one. The picture can not really be used for this, as the database to compare it to would be just too big imo.
If you read down a bit it says F.R software was capable of scanning 25 million faces a second but the thread is a couple of years old so today's computers can probably do it at least 4x faster
https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-best-face-recognition-software
If i had to guess, Thailand is unlikely to have spent enough to have the latest and greatest yet tho.... ????
Identical Name and dob combined with similar picture might be enough if you have been refused entry or deported
A guy recently got busted after coming back in with a slightly changed name and new passport but he still got past the facial recognition if they have it at krabi.... ???? Unless it was broken they day

Biometrics refers to the physical appearance. A new passport has a new photo. No biometrics system in the world can identify the exact same person amongst 7 billion using 2 different photos.
You underestimate facial recognition technology and so did i but recently opening a new account abroad changed my mind
After a Skype interview they made me do a computer verification scan for aml/kyc to match my passport and my face...
My passport picture was close to 14 year old because i used a 3-4yr old pic i had lying around on the passport application form instead of going to the hassle to get a new picture taken for it
The passport pic was young, clean shaven and skinny and in the scan i looked drastically different so i assumed i wouldn't verify being ~14 yrs older, 20kg heavier, long beard, different hair etc and still their Computer knew i was that same skinny kid in the old pic .....????
I don't think you can fool facial recognition tech thesedays without plastic surgery or a Hollywood quality special effects team , Even Apple and other smartphone manufacturers are saying its more secure for payment verification than the fingerprint scanners and airports probably have much more expensive + advanced scanners than an iPhone uses

I have read it a couple of times in this thread that if you have a new passport all the entries of your previous passport will still be available to immigration. A new passport has a new passport number, so how shall they be able to connect the new passport to the old one? A friend of mine was blacklisted for illegally working in Thailand. He went back got a new passport and re-entered without problems. Might this be a country-specific issue? I know that in Germany new passports have totally new and different passport numbers than the previous one.
I got a new passport from my embassy in bkk in 2014 and in the first page they stanped the passport number of the old passport in the new one but even without that i think they would be connected in the computer and same name, date of birth and mugshot would be hard to fool anyone looking at the immigration computer ... ????
Touchwood i haven't had any grief compared to some people
Also never bothered buying an ongoing ticket or carrying the 20,000 in cash and still haven't ever been asked and I've been on investment, biz, tourist, exempt on arrival, educational, marriage etc all several times over the years

If they haven't asked you for tax and your income is generated abroad then the only caveat is don't bring it here in the same tax year as you earned it
Also selling your stocks in another country or even buying more is not depriving any Thai person of a job so hardly any business of anyone but yourself, opening a company and employing 4 Thais to watch you press buttons on your laptop would be laughable tho... ????
If you have too much profits why not donate it to an orphanage or other worthwhile cause? ....there are plenty of people in need out there!

Beware that a lot of their third-party sellers are selling fakes. One example is computer memory. For instance if you search for "sd card 256 gb", on the same page you will find one item priced at around 3,000 baht from Lazada's own store and another one at 80 baht from a third party seller. At that price it's fake for sure.
I had to return a fake Samsung ssd last week so it's definitely full of crap

Since I'm looking to purchase a SSD as well, how do you recognize a fake one?
Usually the serial number can be verified on the manufacturers website and the better brands have a warranty check built in
Performance too is a factor, my fake one is much slower than it should be too because i own others the exact same model

I got a fake Samsung ssd last week on lazada so yes, theyre still selling a lot of fake crap and now i have the hassle of printing a label and posting it back to them

I have a few large suitcases of stuff id like to send to manila
The cases are 28" and they will probably weigh about 20-30kg each
I don't really care if they get there in 2 months so was wondering if sending them by surface mail on the boat would be cheaper and easier than paying an airline for the excess cases
-
Unless things have changed You will probably be mobbed by agents/fixers who can take your passport to the front of the queue no matter what time you arrive .... For a small fee...
I've used them a few times and always a good experience
Don't forget to haggle! Most will ask for double or triple the price they want to see if your stupid enough to pay it.... ????

The merchant has to eat the fees according to visa and mastercard...
But it doesn't seem to work that way in Thailand
Mbk sellers will ask for extra 3% or direct you to the atm

A laptop can do 10x more at half the price but is a tad difficult to put to your ear . 33,000 bt for a S9 plus is blatant profiteering.
45k for an iPhone 10xs max is a better example of blatant profiteering lol

Forgive him Dick - he can't go two posts without labeling someone a liar. I guess you take the good with the bad with morgandave in that he'll talk smack about you but at least he'll leave a tip. I've been to the US and have had a waitress get upset over a small tip (<15% but >10%) more than once and yes they do throw things on occasion. And if you file an "assault charge" against a lady server? Be prepared to be arrested yourself and now that "listen and believe" and "metoo" are the law of the land. Best just to avoid the US restaurants altogether and stay happy and content in the LOS.
I would leave a penny on the table if the waitress had an attitude problem
