Has anyone had dealings with the Congo Consulate in Bangkok. I went to the office address this morning, with an appointment, to get my business visa. On the way, I was called and informed that a messenger would meet me and collect my documents, (passport etc) and 5k. On arrival at the office, it looks like it hasn't been open for years. I didn't hand over anything to the scruffy looking dude who arrived on a clapped out motorbike. Anyone with similar experience ? With a happy ending ... .

Had to necro this thread to add that I found that aircon service place now 2021 and they fixed the missus' aircon in 10 mins, for 500 THB. The <deleted> at Bquik quoted her 6k, telling her they needed to change almost every component of the Yaris aircon. I told her on phone get out of there, dont pay them anything, and sent her to this shop. They guessed it was either compressor or the controller. So they tested a new controller (smallest cheapest part), aircon was back working 100%. 500 Baht and I WILL NEVER EVER AGAIN VISIT BQUIK.

Well I went to PA and asked, the service is no longer offered. They directed me to the 3BB office in Patong, I was online 2 days later. But I had to pay upfront for a year, total about 7500 Baht for 10 Meg line (plus 2k to run a cable into my place), which so far appears to be run at 7-9 Meg.

Apologies if this Q+A has already been flogged to death.
I subscribe to PA cable TV in Patong. I want to bring internet into my Condo, but I have no phone line any more. PA Cable offer Internet access through the TV cable.
Is anyone using this service? Is it worth installing?

Dude, I have been living in Phuket since 2003, I am an oil worker and I was doing 6x6 week rotations till 2007, then 5x5 week rotations thereafter. I lived on 30 day stamps for all that time, which included a hop to KL maybe 5 times per year as my usual stay was more than 30 days.
I was always worried on coming into the country, are they gonna let me in or not. In the last year that worry became quite acute and I was having to book dummy flights out before coming back from work etc. I am no longer a salaried employee, I am a contractor so not much to prove my position except a Seaman's book.
So I bought the Elite card. I ffffing love it. With the price of oil at 50 bucks today, you may be out a job next month, so I suggest you buy the card so that if you do get stuck for 6 months with no work (like me right now), you do not have to worry about being turned away. If you can afford it, buy it. Oil and Gas, oil and gas ........

She/they have been very understanding, I assure you that in many countries they just won't let you departing.
name the countries please
It is not just about the countries, airlines have rules too. Thai airways will ALWAYS ask to see an outbound ticket, I have found them to be the most difficult, flying from anywhere to Bangkok. Etihad in Dublin ALWAYS insist on it (I had to buy a new one, but they gave me a dummy for free), yet Emirates in Dublin don't care. Emirates in London made me buy a return ticket, yet Emirates in Dubai don't care. It is not necessarily a predictable situation .....

My first handset, bought in the 1990s, worked fine for over five years .....
Did you ever drop it in a bowl of water?

I bought it a month ago. I have used the service only once to go to the airport from hotel in BKK. Transport to airport, meet and greet etc was all a pleasure, BMW 7 series, didn't handle my own baggage. First impressions are excellent, assuming this run for the full 5 yr term. I have yet to get the visa portion, this will be issued on arrival in a few weeks when I come back in after being in Europe for work.
And this is the reason I bought it; I work offshore and I have been 'living' in Thailand for 11 years on airport stamps. Not a bad run eh? I am 39 yrs old now, and I would describe myself as financially very comfortable. With the spectre of not being allowed entry looming, I thought damned if I am going to be begging these Immigration officers for entry based on the fact that I work outside of Thailand (I can prove that too). I have too much to lose here .... wonderful girlfriend, condo, car, 2 golfclub memberships la la la, the list goes on.
So now I am Thai Elite card holder, and if it runs its course for the 5 yrs as advertised, you begrudgers can kiss my Elite ass. And if it doesn't, it is just my white Irish ass you be kissing.

Yeah this is potentially a problem. I also work offshore, but I do as little work as possible, usually 3 trips per year, of about 35-45 days. I have been 'living' in Thailand for now 11 years, on 30 day stamps. I have done quite a few same-day runs to KL. I was told by several people, some with friends in senior positions in Immigration, that I was not on the radar. I actually asked a friend who is friends with Phuket's Immigration Chief, to describe my personal and professional circumstances to the Chief, and see what he has to say. The Chief said I dont have anything to worry about.
I went to Phuket Immigration myself, with passport, work documents etc, and had a friendly chat with a Thai officer. He basically told me I am <deleted>. And the guy did not know about the change to the period of extension of 30 day stamp from 9 to 30 days. It seems clear to me that there is not exactly uniform knowledge across all offices. I predict it will be pot luck if I choose to try and enter on 30 day stamps, so I am off to buy the Elite Card.
Good luck to you all!!

Now, what about the big stuff? The folks who designed the idea of a rice scham ..... who were they? Where are those folks? At a birthday party .....

Seems that the authorities are increasingly using Thaivisa as a mouthpiece to get the correct message out confusion on matters expatriate (usually after some bufoon starts a rumour through bad journalism or bad communication). This is a good thing ..... I guess the TV owners are happy, it confirms their advertising appeal.

This is so tragic, the parents must be distraught. The poor little fella

Yeah I think the TAT needs to be a bit careful in what they say on this. The Chinese are a large market, and hey, they have been actively promoting Thailand in China. So, you invited the Chinese, now they are here.

Yes I went there before, but as a geologist I am surprised there is anything special or unique about it, I have seen many similar examples in the field as a student. I will google to see if I can find out why it is supposed to be so special .....
And I would suggest to the Thai Geological Society, if it is really so special, get down there and recover the pieces which have detached from the bed.

I read this topic with gusto, because believe it or not, I had a dream about a tsunami last night. It is the first time I ever dreamed of this, I am living here since before the big one.

If they want to hit this group where it hurts, forcefully introduce meter taxis island wide, driven by tourist-friendly cops or soldiers, at the same rate as a BKK taxi, but higher pickup charge due to shorter distances. Hundreds of taxis, millions of taxis, every fughing colour of taxis

Visa for Congo in BKK

Anyone sees this at a later date, I got the visa via a meeting with the secretary to the Consul, at the office on Narathiwat road, very near Makro. The next day the scruffy messenger met me there with my passport and visa. So TGW you were correct, he was the official messenger of the Consulate. But <deleted> me did he look like he lived under a bridge ......
