  1. I can never understand this ruling about the 800k in the bank, what's to stop you drawing the money out as soon as you have the required Visa and losing it on the horses ?

    Nothing at all.

The requirement is entirely retrospective, which is a common viewpoint in Thailand.

I think gambling is illegal in Thailand. But you'd certainly have fun spending it on wine, women and song ?

  2. Did my retirement extension, last month at Nakohn Si Thammarat.

    2 observations

    - my term deposit matured in December 2014. The Bank book showed the maturing amount (principal + interest) going 'out' which left a zero balance. The same day, the same book showed a re- investment of the full amount, leaving my balance at 822,000 baht. They freaked out; just for a few minutes

    - they were very insistent that I showed a savings account with 3 months of 'money in and out to live on' as they put it. This must be printed out by your back and certified by the m, in addition to the certifying letter you also need to present.

  3. Excuse me, and redirect me, please, if this ? has been answered previously.

A friend who has been living here, is on her 3rd extension, which expires in May. She plans to travel to EU in August, and return to Thailand. Does she have any options this year. ? Overstaying is out of the question.

Obviously next time she returns to stay longer, she will have to apply for a non-O visa extension ( she is 50+) Thanks,

She can apply for another extension and get a re-entry permit to keep it valid when she returns after her trip in August.
Thanks, Joe...but the problem still exists as to what can she do, to stay in Thailand legally, between May and the date she leaves in August. Incidentally, she has 800,000 in her Thai bank account. Would this give her the option of applying for a Retirement extension, BEFORE she leaves Thailand ? Thanks.

  5. I know this is not about why it happened, but from a ethical viewpoint, why should another foreign country let this guy into their country after he has blatantly broken the law in the country his is trying to leave? Not just a few days, but 1 year living illegally in another country! Then he turns up with a one way ticket asking to be let in. Any sensible country would say no thanks and stop him arriving.

So why are we spending time trying to fix a problem the original poster created all by himself. The issue should be you knew you were doing something illegal and now people will not do what you want and help you. When you try to abuse the system then you hope others will stick to the system what do you expect?

Sorry for your hassle but it's a case of it's your bed, you made it, you lie in it.

Totally agree with you but at least he was trying to solve the issue.

Totally disagree - if OP was trying to solve the issue, he would have coughed up the 20k. That's known as the KISS principle. Whilst in hospital, just before my annual retirement visa extension date was about to expire, I sent my wife to ask for an extension of the expiry date. Phuket IO stamped my passport with an extended 90 day. Misreading this, we turned up 90 days later and the fine was 20,000 baht. Upset, of course, but I didn't complain to TV. That rule has been around for a while. I have empathy for those on TV who post that they are in difficulty due to circumstances beyond their control.

  6. If I may disagree, my wife and I renewed our annual extensions last week. We had not previously submitted a TM30 Report. We completed one, ( showing the 2 of us at the same address,) together with 1 copy each of our passports. That was accepted without penalty. However, we were cautioned that we should have done this in 2015 , when we last arrived back from travelling. We were also advised that this deferring if a penalty will stop, March 1st.

I'd suggest you inform yourself about how your wife should complete the form, and get down there to Immigration, ASAP.

Forget about reporting the TM30 to the regular police, unless you live in a major town. They know little about Immigration reporting requirements. Good luck!

  7. The X-Files - new series is absolute tripe .

Thanks, would hate to ruin my great memories of the early seasons, ( shot in BC) .

Lillian Anderson shines in the new series, 'The Fall' also is good in a minor role in 'Hannibal'.

  8. 'Man in the High Tower' ( again, starts slow, but based on a good book (

    'Gotham' 2 seasons, so far.

    'Line of Duty'

    'Prey'

    'What Remains'

    Excuse any duplicates I've posted.

  9. Not new, but 'The Hour' from a few years ago is top class British show.

Also, 'The Fall' seasons 1 and 2 ( BBC-N.Ireland effort). Season 3 is being shot in Belfast, currently. '

'Love & Hate' (Irish series, similar to the Oz criminal family saga 'Animal Kingdom' ).

' Bosch' can't decide - the first 2 episodes are uneven ( the books are great).

And of course, for us lovers of black humour, 'Ash versus Evil Dead'

  10. My situation is a bit different. Arrived back into the Kingdom, mid May 2015. There was a huge line-up at Immigration (Suvarnabhumi Airport). Wife and I filled in a TM6 each. . We got split into 2 line up's. As soon as I got my passoprt back, I noticed that I ended up with no TM6. Due to my wife carrying both with her. Immigration officer said 'mai pen rai'.

Following advice posted on this thread,. I will file a Police Report.

I report for an TM 7 extension, next week. I will post whether it was necessary or not.

  11. I have used the same pictures every year for the last 3 years only changed when I moved .

Every office is different. It is not helpful to state your experience at one office.

Yes, every office is different, every officer is different, sometimes it maybe even depends on sympathie/antipathie. If they want new photos they want them. Last week i went for three extensions to the N.Pathom IO, done in 15 minutes. They didn't care about the photos, as there is no real need for them anymore since they take pictures at the IO and they can compare them on the screen with the ones from last year.

I don't think you arewriting about the same photos mentioned in the OP or my post. Not sure how immigration would be able to do the photos in and around the house at an immigration office.

No need for the photo's to be in and around the house, this is something that the individual Immigration office's may ask, but not at Chiang Mai Immigration. Was there today and they are happy to accept any photo taken at any location as long as it is you and your spouse.

    Ron

It is worth repeating - please do not post any general assumptions about the rules, such as " no need for this , or that" .

I think that the best advice ( mentioned many times on TV) is for each expat to ascertain what is needed, exactly, by their respective IO's. That said, thanks for sharing your experiences. Wish it were that relaxed st Nakohn Si Thammmarat.

  12. I am in a similar position, I was told by my lawyer that a work permit is not needed as long as I limit my role to being a shareholder only. I cannot have any position in the company, cannot be a director or have any role as a signatory for bank accounts or contracts except when specifically required to do so as a shareholder. I don't know what type of business it is you are involved with but you should also limit the amount of time you spend physically present in it, if for example it is a bar or restaurant, or you may be perceived as assisting in its operation.

Obviously all this means you need to have a great deal of trust in the other shareholders and the directors, who really have full control of the company.

    f

I got the opposite advice. Can I ask, Where are your lawyers located ?

  13. Did I miss something. It seems to me to be really uncool to have a baby and not have yourself organized so that you can live here and provide support for child and mother?

Thank you for your concern. I have been in Thailand for the past few years and I have been supporting my wife. Presently I have misplan and overlook the period during my renewal of non-Imm O visa, my cash are stuck at elsewhere. I need to consider which is more affordable and less cost? Once I have the renew visa again, life for me in Thailand still be the same. Except this time having another new family member.

    Yeah.. :)

My mistake, thanks for clarifying and good luck with getting sorted out and congrats re: the new family addition! Take care.

  14. Not reading the expiry date on retirement Visa stamp can happen easily.

Was in a Phuket hospital, during the week the visa date was expiring.

. Wife went to Immigration and asked for extension, due my being unable to return to my home province (Nakohn Si Thammarat),.

With one of the Farang volunteers 'helping' , P.I. gave us both a new 90 days date-stamped notification slip. Neither they nor he volunteer explained anything we did not spot that the slip says that it is not a visa extension. We waited to apply for renewed visa, until a few days before the new date on the notification slip.

Wife and I penalized 40,000 baht.

    Live and learn.

  15. Thanks for honest reply Jacksam. Appreciate it.

I don't disagree that they were correct to reject the decision and do not contest it. I merely seek to prepare a better application next time.

To add more info, I am 33 she is 20. We met in Pattaya, she worked in a bar. She has a little travel history as went to Singapore together in August 2015. She now lives in Nakhon Ratchasima with her family.

We declared all the above as part of the immigration, no false representation was made at any stage.

I'm amazed that the forum has been so considerate to your position.

I wouldn't want to prejudge her, but you say she's 20 and had gone to Pattawa to work in a bar, and is from Nakohn Ratchasima.

What did she do in the bar? Nothing wrong with whatever it was; but are you ok with the possibility that she will move back to work in Pattaya, the other 44 weeks of the year.?

Ask yourself what is it that you really want?

Is it to spend 300,000 baht/ year for as long as you continue to live in the UK, so that you have this particular beauty waiting for you to come on holiday ?

I do think the best advice offered here is that you fly back to meet her, rather than the other way round. Then you have a chance to get to know her, meet her friends and family and take it from there. I have a Swedish friend, Thai gf working in an insurance co for several years. They've got a visa into the EU. But the UK visa application has been pending, for 8 months now.

You are the owner of the shares in the company?

    They have a value.

Therefore, the value of the shares are included in your assets.

Yes, thanks. We own 49%. You can aging how complicated it will be, in death for non-resident family to sell the whole property. Better if we have the house in our name and a lease registered on the land. So, I still am looking for any advice on this. I suspect our situation, as a Farang couple, is somewhat unique to this forum. Thanks for your advice, tho'
  17. Had my house built on vacant land owned by a Thai company .

There is no yellow book, anyone ever apply for a yellow book, under same circumstances? What paperwork needed. Local amour has never heard of a Farang getting a yellow book. I'll deal with that by going to the capital of the province. Just need to know paperwork.

Has there been a blue house book issued for the house? It there is no blue book then a yellow book cannot be issued.

Only the local Amphoe can issue a house book. Going to the capital will not help because there is no provincial level entity that issues house books.

Thanks for that. We have a Blue Book, issued in the name of the company; due to the planning permit being issued in the name of the company also..

We are in ourtr 790's and worried about our wills, where we treat the house as being owned by us. we paid for it personally (ie outside of the company). Legal advice was to bring a copy of the building contract (in our name). to the local office ans ask them to change the name on the building permit. they said no.can do. The local office said that farang could not own a house.very clearly. Despite this, the planning Dept Chief gave us a letter certifying that we live at the house address. Our lawyer's advice is to have the Company prepare a Directors resolution, allowing us to build a house on its land. Our lawyer suggested that we then take all paperwork and go to Muang NST. There, at lease they understand the concept of farang being allowed to own a house. and hopefull, will give us a letter of instructions to take back to the local office. Sorry that this background was not posted first time, as I thought it was maybe off topic. as I reread this, I think I must be dreaming.
