Thais visit Turkey????....Whats the scene like there compared to LOS?....be nice to find a backup option
I do not know - just asking here hoping someone had thought about it before too.
Turkey is visa-free for Thais / 30 days. And it is open / no covid-restrictions. But they would have to go into quarantine when going back to Thailand so it seems not to be an option now.

I am in the same situation and apart from waiting I see only two ways:
1. buy Elite card and pray they will be allowed in with the retirees with quarantine
2. marry gf in Turkey because Thais cannot enter our countries, we cannot enter Thailand, Turkey is open and visa-free for Thais and us - not sure whether that's even possible, I just do not see other open countries Thais can go too without a visa
With marriage certificate as I understand it we would be able to get the paperwork to get in as do people now

The EU MUST call for a reciproce deal from all 14 countries. They cannot make exceptions for special friends. It's all or nothing.
No, they "must" not. They can do whatever they like.
You and me will be stranded and no Thailand for us 555

ukrules,
yes, it is great once you are in Thailand and I see the value of the visa for you because you are in Thailand now and got something extra although not affected.
But how would you think if you were abroad and they would tell you you are not in the list of preferred customers to enter the country as it is now?

forget 6-months.....worry about RETIREMENT:
Retire at 50...live to be 90.
40 x 12 x 40,000 is 19,200,000 baht. Is it enough? maybe, maybe not.
or, if possible, keep your main house paid off, rent, then sell it when needed.
You could make it cheaper by living in CNX 555

I was thinking about buying the Elite visa in the past few days, under the assumption I would be able to get back with paid quarantine (same as WP and marriage guys). This would have been on top of the other advantages as e.g. 5/20 years IO-hassle-free stay and entry possible via Bangkok airports.
Elite staff answered me next months certain countries would be allowed back. So it seems like Elite members get the same priority as other tourists.
It really shocks me because I thought they were selling a product here and this would have been so easy money (more applications, more quarantine bookings). I can only conclude that we have been too arrogant thinking they would want our money.

Funny that everyone claims there is no insurance for covid.
I made a new policy in the end of March - all (around 4) insurance companies I asked covered corona related treatment unless you were tested positive before doing the contract.
Still does not matter. Thailand is closed and I feel they do not open any time soon. Maybe next year for me.

Well, we could squeeze out some more money at immigration from our foreign retirees...????
What is a retiree? You mean tourists which are not allowed to enter altogether 555 ?

You are a guest in Thailand.
It is their country. They can burn if they like to.
You have to adjust. E.g. move, using air purifiers at night with closed windows

What does it matter.
Country is closed.

I sold a motorbike there in September, so it is not up-to-date.
I needed (as a seller) a residence certificate. I bet at least 10 people will now tell me what a fool I am and that it is only needed for the buyer - so just sharing my experience.

How to enter Cambodia?

He tried good value for money. Almost 7 years for free 555
Maybe the deportation is cheaper.

I would say for the government there is no difference - either you have permanent residency / work permit - so they basically need you, or you are a "tourist".
I am out of Thailand too, stuck as many of you. But still I have to smile about all the discussions I read in the forum in the last few months that Elite, marriage, retirement etc. etc. visa is so much better. We can see know that people with a long-term visa have no rights - they are treated the same way as tourists.

In case they open up in July for tourists they better tell us when Songkran is, so we can arrive after that.

All I have seen is that Vietnam will issue visas to some groups of foreigners in July.
The articles did not specify the entry requirements as covid tests, quarantine etc.
I would love Vietnam to open up too or any other SEA country, because I need alternatives if Thailand does not open up. Lets wait and see if that really happens.

On a marriage/retirement extension you are on a temporary stay of 1 year - rules could change anytime - they do not see it any different from a visa exempt entry that has an extension of 30 days. Same goes for the Elite visas - now you learnt the hard way that they consider it just as a tourist visa, because people always said it is some kind of "privileged entry visa".
I like Thailand and I will most likely stay once I am able to go back. But I am still young. Once I am older I cannot see myself living like that, having no rights etc. I keep my life in Thailand simple, not owning anything apart from some clothes, motorbike etc. I now see how lucky I am that I do not own a condo, car etc. there, unable to go back.

If I understand it correctly, 11% GDP is what the government cares about because here taxes are being paid.
The freelancers, people who do not pay taxes: I do not think the government has any interest in them so the official GDP sounds what is realistic and they care about. I know you will say people starve and have no livelihood - but still, the government has different priorities I think.

Fit to fly certificate - I would wait if they create a template for that, then it would be easy I guess because it is not a corona test. But the quarantine thing needs to be solved, e.g. with covid tests before departure and/or arrival as Iceland announced something along that line.
-
It is not a big deal for everyone younger - because every health insurance covers new corona cases and 100k USD is very low coverage, even a basic international policy usually covers 1M+
But I understand it might be a problem for people of certain age to get a policy. I would say relax the government seems to have a plan to include it in the ticket price etc. - because tourists do not have international health insurance or insurance valid for Thailand.
-
I recently compared different health insurances. When you compare them and contact them, they do not exclude pandemics or corona, unless you had it before joining of course.
Travel insurances usually excludes that, but not health insurance. Immigration asks for health insurance anyway.
-
Most likely they will work with the airlines to do a corona test before boarding. With a negative test I would expect no quarantine. This way, tourists would come - otherwise only some expats desperate to go back to their family. The latter, they do not care about.
Although the wallpaper visa would be nice ????

We need to wait for the details, both for Vietnam and Thailand. For those two countries although they said they want to open on July 1st, I am not clear about quarantine.

Just relax guys, and give them time to announce the details, perhaps up to mid-June.
All just speculation about the quarantine, covid test etc. until we have an announcement.
People do not need to know "NOW" - you and me have no rights in Thailand and if we are lucky we can go back and they open again.
