  1. Japan is very capable militarily. Ironically, they prevented Chiang Kai Shek from defeating Mao Tse Tung & CCP. Now however, China & Japan both face demographic issues that risk to hamper them economically and militarily. That will not happen soon enough for Taiwan, though.
  2. This is probably because Moderna's new version (bivalent - original & Omicron) has been approved in the UK (and other countries soon). Moderna is also working on a BA.4 & BA.5 version for the US.
  3. The other thing to check is what rate is baht converted to foreign currency. Does that bank ATM give the option for conversion by them or sending the charge in baht to be converted abroad? It is probably better, maybe much better, to have conversion done abroad. If the ATM does not offer the option of conversion here or there, where does the conversion happen, and at what rate? If you can't get an answer from the bank you prefer, try TMBThanachart (formerly Thai Military Bank) to see the rate you get on conversion abroad, then try an ATM (on same day if possible) at another bank where the conversion option is not presented when making an ATM withdrawal.
  4. In CHiang Mai they want to see the back statement printout and letter done within the last week. I always do a copy of the bank book for the year, and they want to see a transaction on the day of the retirement extension, so I need to do a withdrawal and an update of the bankbook before heading to immigration.
  5. I had a colonoscopy, I believe using NBI (narrow band imaging) instead of the usual "white light" at Bumrungrad in 2018. The following explains various endoscope approaches including NBI: https://www.asge.org/home/about-asge/newsroom/media-backgrounders-detail/new-endoscopic-technologies Samitiivej in Bangkok uses NBI. I'm wondering whether CM Ram, Bangkok Hospital CM, or others in Chiang Mai use this technology.
  6. He means a 30K baht withdrawal from an ATM with a 220 baht fee.
  7. In the past week there has been speculation that the next increase will be 0.5% instead of 0.75%. This is causing dollar weakness. It's unlikely that a few tourists could have an effect on the exchange rate. Anyway the next Fed rate rise will not be until Sept 21st, so a lot can happen before then.
