I have yet to believe a lot of the stuff, green peace talks about.  The fact that Bangkok has a huge population

and people cook with charcoal, yet, as well as all the vehicles that run on deisel, and not gas or LPG, or CNG,

the big trucks with no pollution equipment, the ships etc, there is many reasons for pollution. But there is Green Peace blaming a coal fired powerstation. Yeh that will be the day when I believe green peace

    fake news.

    Geezer

i agree the factories are not contributing to the issue at all they should just be left alone to burn more coal. Why should they stop when there are buses and trucks spewing out black smoke. vendors cooking via charcoal.. til you get fix the problem with the buses, trucks and vendors dont you dare blame the factories!

i have an idea. we will use a thing called a

    c o m p u t e r. can you say computer?

visa expired on a certain date? automatically check immigration exit records for passport number. no exit? generate list. then go to house.

    look for bad guys.

    computer 101 circa 1978.

how do you think they got the 3 pages of names mentioned above? hmmm i wonder

  3. Going to try and not jump to any conclusion since the Unkranian and the boat crewmen are the only ones who know what really happened and why...

but the Ukranian probably isn't as innocent as he makes himself out to be.... unless the boatman is severely imbalanced you don't know cutting people over something as little as someone complaining over a late departure.

  4. quantity over quality!  (low pay combined with a huge organization that cant possibly police itself?...  Do you want corruption cause this is how you get corruption)

In June 2015, the Bangkok Post reported that "Thai police officers are paid around 14,760 baht per month (6,800–8,340 baht for entry level) and have to buy their own guns and even office supplies." He posits that one reason salaries are so low is that the sheer number of officers is staggering, roughly 250,000.

  5. I am not a Buddhist so I really don't have a horse in this race. however, I can definitely appreciate a foreigner taking the time to learn another culture and beliefs... and why some Buddhists would be impressed with a foreigner's extensive knowledge of their culture and beliefs.

I am having a really hard time understanding why people are criticizing and hating on this.

  6. if you actually feel threatened by some of the dogs you can call animal control. (dont let anyone know it was you who called)

Do not mistreat the dogs or do anything stupid like causing the dogs harm you will get charged with animal cruelty and most likely have a problem with the neighbors and the people who took it upon themselves to help care for the dogs.

Pretty sure you know the saying when in Rome...  throw the dogs some scraps every now and then and they will probably start being friendly or at least neutral to your proximity.

just want to add not all dogs you see on the street are strays... Some owners will let their pets roam around freely. (something that is obviously not allowed in most western countries)

Feeding them attracts as many as the food will support.

If you can spread the word not to feed & keeping food waste in secure waste bins with good reasons will discourage them.

I remember seeing bins made from old tyres at the side of the road in other parts of Thailand, they are heavy duty with heavy enough lids to keep the dogs out I'm sure, how they compare cost wise to vet bills I'm not sure.

Good luck with that approach haha

What makes you think they will even consider a request like that? If anything you will be causing more problems for yourself...

Because not only will you have a problem with the dogs but you will now have a problem with people. hahaha

  8. when you say priceless do you mean sentimental value like stuff handed down from generation to generation?

In any case, I agree with most of the comments above... you might be better off entrusting the stuff to a friend or family member you can trust.

Also you probably shouldn't rush shipping everything at once and paying huge amounts of money in taxes only to find out things aren't working out for you a few years later in Thailand.

I suggest bringing over only essentials and then transport everything else over time if things are going well and positive you will remain in thailand long term.

I don’t agree with dual pricing, in fact I hate it and the thinking that lies behind it.

However, this poor woman has done nothing more than the national parks and other attractions do.

This whole thing is being blown out of proportion, and this woman is being crucified, mainly (I suspect), because the person overcharged was Thai.

    Let her be.

If the authorities really want fair pricing for all, they should clean up their own house first.

Here is the mentality... foreigners have money so they can afford to spend more.... which is odd for people who take great pride in being thai... because they are also looking down on thais with this dual pricing by saying.... you cant afford to pay the higher prices.

Rubbish. It is, like TOTALLY not the same thing. It is not based on race or nationality. Any Thai who is in the California for a relatively short time such as a College student can easily get a California drivers license and get the local price.

The point is people are getting charged differently just because they come from someplace different.  Although you are correct there was a story awhile back of a Thai national who happened to be white who tried to enter a national park and the park insisted he pay the white man price even though he could speak perfect thai, was able to read and write thai and had a national ID.

but in my Disneyland example if the price was set and he presented his Thai ID for a discount there probably would not have been a problem

Thia's that drive Ferrari's & wear Rolax watch's generally don't eat street vender food, they eat in expensive restaurants where EVERYBODY is ripped off ;-)

that is not entirely true...   there are plenty of wealthy Thais who eat Thai street food and reserve dining out for special occasions.

wealthy people who eat out at expensive places on a regular basis in most cases do not remain wealthy for long unless they are ultra-wealthy.

the mentality is foreigners have money to spend so they should be able to afford more. In a way its thais looking down on thais.

  12. interesting thread... Yes, i have seen a few places under the 10,000 range in Bangkok but I consider the majority of these as substandard and trash. some of these buildings in this price range need to be condemned and you probably have a high probability of getting sick from mold
