  1. Thailand has this reputation for good reason, when I came to live in Thailand six years ago I mostly frequented Jomtien Complex, one day I discovered Sunee plaza and there was a bar where 3-4 guys aged 14-15 were running around, heavily under the influence of Yaba, and some hell ugly ladyboy was the mamasan there, doesn't require a lot of imagination what they were doing there.

When I went to another bar and brought it to discussion they said yeah it's just a boy bar same like any other ???? bar has been closed since, don't think it lasted long but if it's so openly presented than you know that Thailand deserves this reputation and it's nothing like any other country in the world, at least I've never seen something like this anywhere in the world and I visited plenty of places.

Not much in the city itself, but not far away there's enough things to see to keep you occupied for a day, but definitely not a week. None of them will ever make World Heritage Site status though. Try the Chonburi Grand Canyon and Snow Mountain.

Never knew about this, is there a way to go down there and swim in the lake besides jumping off a cliff?

  4. Not exactly Chonburi city but:

    - Bang Saen beach (reasonable beach but can't compare it to Hua Hin or Saikeaw navy beach near Bang Saray/Sattahip)

    - Koh Sichang (never been there but should be good)

    - Khao Kheow open zoo (quite nice)

    - Tiger zoo (disappointing)

Don't know about any waterfall but this kind of sums it up for things to go between Siracha and Chonburi

Yes definitely.  Told my girlfriend this and she went ahead to try 1 month for 1990 baht anyways.  I even told her I would post on here and have an answer for her by tomorrow.  She said they promised her to top of the list for a search on Google.  As if!

In the background I will put something together and present it to her.  A referral to a decent web page designer would be much appreciated.  Just something basic which is what I think is all she will get anyways.

I used to offer an SEO Service for $100/month a few years back, but back then it was still easy to rank sites with PBN links only, which fitted fine in the budget as I ran my own network. Such techniques aren't gonna cut it today but the deal looks interesting of course so people do buy it in the hopes they will make a passive income from it or get more clients.

It will be packed especially around the stage area..there are normally some beer tents with tables and seats for a price !!!!!

I'm just going to watch it on Mono29 channel  in the comfort of my air-conditioned room with a nice cold beer.

Thanks, I'd prefer that indeed, do you think I have to make a reservation upfront for that?

As far as crowds, The choke point is after the fireworks near mixx disco, when alot of people go back towards walking street and there are still people coming from walking street towards the pier.

I got stuck in a huge crush there 2 years ago and actually started panicking. It got so bad I pushed out sideways and waited about 30 minutes for it to calm down

Guess I haven't missed a thing the past 5-6 years.

Well, I already made the promise, so going we will, but I will watch the time we go back, maybe we can better take the route to the flyover instead of walking street, can't imagine they close that road for pedestrians as well.

What time is that, just after countdown, around 00:30-01:00?

Think sardines in a tin......that should give you an idea!

And watch out for the pick pocket gangs!!

Oh darn, I hate that, but just celebrating it in a bar also gets boring, and my new might-be-future-partner probably doesn't appreciate it if I take him to some bar area where I screwed half of the workers lol.

  10. There are many companies that offer this combo deal and often there's some extra service included like some sort of very basic SEO each month.

Most web hosts can be bought under $100/year, I think Hawkhost is $39/year, and Namecheap also has a deal for a few dozen dollars/year for a plan that allows you to host one website.

For the website itself, there are thousands of free Wordpress themes or paid ones at ThemeForest for $50-$70 for a more professional look, then it's just a matter of adding some content and adjusting settings and be done.

Main take away, don't let the web designer take care of the host, as you always end up paying more that way. If you get web hosting at any host the name servers will be set automatically so all you need to do is log in to the Cpanel to install Wordpress, and then you can hand it over to a web designer if you insist.

Cheap web designers can be found at Guru, Freelancer, PeoplePerHour, Upwork, heck maybe even at Fiverr.

Most web designers aren't really designers these days, they get a premium theme, make some adjustments, and publish your content and call it a day so I think it can be done for under $200, maybe less.

That actually is the case. The OP, had he done the same in the UK, would have been fined a far greater sum of money and lost his licence for at least 12 months. Had the OP had better negotiating skills, he probably would have been able to pay 10k baht at the roadside and be allowed to drive home. Not saying that it's right, it certainly isn't, but for offenders, being in Thailand definitely has it's advantages.

It's a well known fact that you can literally get away with murder here.....for a price.

The point is that the previous time I bribed my way out for 3500 baht at the police station in East Pattaya, and I knew the fine in court is 5000 so I refused to pay a cent more than that, but as I said earlier, I didn't realize there's a difference between driving a motorbike or a car. Last time when I paid 3500 I was also with my car though so this whole 10k thing looked extortionate to me so I thought they were just bluffing.

At Pattaya East back then the cop just kept on saying, you no pay 20k baht you go to prison, and I kept on saying okay let's go, with no response followed, finally we went outside and once again he said okay now we go prison and I say 'mai mee pan haa' no problem, and outside he asks me again, how much you have? 3500 baht is all I got, I'm waiting for money from Holland to arrive and he took the money and returned my car key. Case closed.

Had I know the fine is 8500 in court I would've had no problem paying 10k.

In relative terms the penalty in thailand is much harsher.

10K baht roughly 20-30 times average daily thai wage

In Oz, fine is about $1000. Or less than 5 days pay. But you do lose your license - not that most thais have licenses anyway

Do thais get the same fine as farang for drink driving?

It appears they do, most paid in excess of 6000 baht at court, I'm not sure what offenses they committed as I can't understand Thai that well but it appeared there was no double pricing going on, purely based on the relatively large amounts (especially for Thai people).

What is this post even about? You were so stupid to bring them home to your house without legal reasons. That is not called an arrest, it is called an invite.
That you talk too much without needing to is another thing, be happy that is where it ended.

All this got nothing to do with visa's, working online or living in Thailand while experiencing new rules.

You clearly don't get it, maybe read again.

I was arrested already and in prison, and they took me to my home to pick up my passport as I had no one to bring it.

It felt like an interrogation to find out if I was working in Thailand or not.

Speaking to a policeman at our local bank, I figured he was just taking the opportunity to speak a little English. From nowhere came (for a Thai) a very direct question.........

What do you think of the (current) government?

My response....."They will try their best, I don't have any interest in politics, countries are controlled by money not politicians"

Seemed to accept my response and changed the topic......but I did wonder of the outcome had my response had been negative and critical

Plenty of people aren't too crazy about Prayuth so if you were a little critical he wouldn't mind, to me it looks like a bit of a battle between the police and the army, eg the police has to answer to the army, can't imagine they like that.

Also, here in Pattaya most come from Isan, the red shirts, so that should say enough.

Then again, you never know for sure, so neutral is the best.

When I mentioned to those police agents that it wasn't very busy in Pattaya this year, or at least not in the bar areas they ignored me so good reason to switch topics ????
