  1. Believe you are saying the Firefox browser default language is Thai? You should Google the problem as the browser makers feel they know better than us and default to what they believe you should be using when doing install and if downloaded here on computer that says located in Thailand often they install in Thai with no option to change. PIA and may require change of location in Windows to an English speaking country in order to download again and install in English and then return setting to Thailand.

I did google but no real help there. Your idea has merit sounds like a possible fix thank you I live near Fortune Town were i bought it will take back and let them solve it. The laptop is for my Thai daughter and she is real happy with it. Just need to tweak some things.
  2. Acer computer bought in Thailand ??

Thai shop you bought it from put the windows 7 ??

When the computer I had came from the Thai shop I had to take it back for them to change to English because they had downloaded the wrong program.

I'm not an expert but most of the windows XP, 7 etc etc are usually copies that's what happen to me anyway and I got hold of a genuine windows now with microsoft everything good.

Many guys on here can help better than me, just wait a bit more.

Yes i bought the computer here in Thailand and it is a bootleg copy. Sounds like the Thai shop i bought it at maybe put the wrong program too. I have my location as Thailand but Selected English language. Still get Thai. I can change somethings do not know what i would be clicking on. thks. No problem with the keyboard language have correct settings.
  3. I think the Ratchada area could be real nice for you. They have everything you need shopping the Esplanade Tesco Lotus Fortune Town New Central World Plaza and also Big C. Subway access and 4 new condo projects. Huay Kwang night market you name it. Reasonable rents too. Good luck with your move.

  4. Hi everyone frustrating problem with trying to change the language to all English no Thai. I did what it said to do went in to control panel and put English and when my firefox starts it shows Thai script can not understand and when you type it is English unless you switch to Thai. Called some shops they say they have to download some more not so sure. Sorry if this is confusing if i can not get help will take back to were i bought it. Thank you as always in advance. Happy New Year

  5. The XL Store. Can be found everywhere you find an Export Shop.

Ground floor of Seacon Square (across from the True store), Future park has it as well (1st floor I think), Fashion Island has it as well.

thank you everyone i will try MBK have not been there for awile/

  6. At last report, the Govt. Center on Chaeng Wattana Rd. is open for business, including accepting 90 day reports from folks in the BKK area... In the past, they were advising people to go to the Makro store nearby, and trucks were carrying people in from there.

As an alternative, the old Immigration Office on Soi Suan Plu in the Sathorn area is also accepting in person 90 day reports from BKK residents.

I believe you have a 7 day grace period for reporting in person after your actual due date... but no grace period in BKK for reporting by mail.

Thus far, I haven't seen any indication that Immigration at CW is cutting people any slack due to flooding issues.

Yes you had better go to the old office Soi. Suan Plu and take care of it more convenient there. I do not think there is a 7 day grace period i just renewed my retirement visa and was 2 days late had to pay 1000baht fine.

  7. As you can go to immigration 30 days before the expiry date, I do not know why you waited for 2 days after the expiry date. You are lucky they did not toss you for being late.

The amount of money in the bank or pension is 800,000 baht a year and you have 3 options to make up this amount. So if your intention was to help people at stating, "My letter from Embassy states I make more than the required 65,000 baht" then I think you confused more than you helped.

You also need proof of residence for renewal of retirement visa. I went 1 month ago and need to show my lease and a photo copy of the owners ID card.

    :jap:

Sorry Bushwacker if i confused anyone thanks for mentioning the options. I have never had to show a lease agreement I always put my new address as i have moved several times,I live in the Ratchada area. I also used to have to show my Thai Bank account but not necessary anymore if your pension exceeds 65000 baht no bank info required. Also there is no medical certificate required either. Good luck to all

  8. I went Thursday to The American Embassy to get the letter for my pension it was dry there sand bags everywhere Silom Station was closed got off at Lumpini it was dry there also and they had some exits closed. I paid the 1550 baht now for the notary American prices went up. I was told that the old immigration office was open now no problems so went over with my documents it was a zoo over there but i did not have to wait long after they came back for lunch. I was expecting to have some problem after i read about new rules and tightening the rules about bank deposits of your pension. I was asked if I had my bank documents but My letter from Embassy states I make more than the required 65,000 baht and I have been retired here for 6 years so they computed the baht from my USD pension and that was it no problems. Except I was 2 days over 1000baht fine plus the 1900 baht for Retirement visa. Hope this helps someone.

  9. Just checked portland waiting to see how long for mail. so no good on the tourist visa chai rue mai?

You're saying you don't have enough time to apply by mail to Portland? You're leaving Aug 3 -- you should have plenty of time. Did you talk to Mary at Portland about your situation? You should qualify for a Non Imm O based on being retired -- all's they require is proof of your financials.

If, somehow, you don't qualify for a Non Imm O, a tourist visa from Portland requires no proof of airline tickets.

And, worst case (like, you don't have a mailbox, or something), you can go visa exempt, converting that entry to a Non Imm O in Thailand, similar to converting a tourist visa.

Yes, visa exempt normally requires showing the airline an exit ticket. However, you've got a valid extension of stay of your visa until August 11. The airlines don't understand this, in many cases, but usually come around with an explanation, and an emphasis on 'permitted to stay until Aug 11, 2011.' By this time, after maybe the supervisor is called over, their eyes are glazed over -- and the fact that there is no 're-entry permit' to allow all this to happen should not be a lightbulb in any of their heads (well, I guess, a veteran CSR, who's handled several of these 'expired visa, with valid extensions' might recall someone, in their explanation, mentioning a 're-entry permit' as part of the deal.)

Anyway, you certainly have the time to get some kind of visa -- which is advisable. A veteran CSR could ruin your whole day....should you try to fly visa exempt.

okay guys i talked to mary she is taking care of me with a $65 O Visa just mailing my forms to her no problem. Thank you everyone from Thai Visa you guys are truly lifesavers to me i was so bummed i could not search.

  10. retirement extension of stay is what you have and if you didn't get a re-entry permit it will not be valid upon arrival in Thailand. She probably doesn't understand this

Why wasn't the tourist visa possible, seems like a slam dunk

Yes i need a slam dunk I have a one way flight to Thailand no return ticket is a tourist visa possible? Thanks that is all i want till i get there is it possible?

  11. The medical and police check are only required to apply for an O-A visa, but not for a normal non-O visa.

Some consulates will only issue an O-A visa, but honorary consulates are not allowed to issue these and will issue a non-O visa. Just check if they will issue a non-O visa to you, if not apply at another consulate that will.

Just checked portland waiting to see how long for mail. so no good on the tourist visa chai rue mai? I have to get retirement visa here? My actual retirement visa in my passport expires on August 11 2011 and i am flying in august 3 is it still good? Thanks

  12. You should use an honorary Consulate (like Portland) and try to obtain a single entry non immigrant O visa. You can call or visit LA Consulate and ask them but they may still require you obtain the O-A for retirement from them. Believe Honorary Consulates can issue again now that they can not issue the O-A type. One way travel is allowed on any visa and if American consulate will not normally require any show of ticket to obtain a visa. But you will require a non immigrant visa entry to extend for retirement so better to get that now.

If you must use a tourist visa there will be an extra 2,000 baht step before you can extend inside Thailand.

Thanks so bottom line is i can get a tourist visa at LA consulate with my one way ticket? There are less requirements in Thailand for my retirement visa no medical no fbi policw records check. Also i get a letter from my embassy notarized about my income from my pension which is over 65000 baht so no need for bank account. I would rather pay the Thai immigration. I think it is 1900 baht and another 2000 baht? not sure. Plus $65USD for letter. Thanks again for all your help.

  13. Yes should be ok. You will just have to do the two part process of converting tourist visa to non-o and then an extension of stay. Some offices will do both at the same time, but not all offices will do the conversion, bangkok, and Pattaya for sure.

Check out the visa forum there are a lot of post about this process and what forms you will need

Thanks my biggest worry is if Thai consulate will issue tourist visa with a one way ticket?? Called my airline thet said i maybe could still use my retirement visa i thought i voided that when i left. Thanks again to all who help.
