Has anyone done the Nakhon Phanom/ Thakhaek (Laos) crossing.
If so is it easy to return the same day. No idea what its like on the Laos side, but doesnt look to be much there.
Many thanks.

They havent messed around with the marriage extensions, like they have with retirement extensions.Maybe this is because Thai people are directly affected. Therefore removing these marriage visas without financials would go against that general policy.

Check out Air Asia flights to nearby countries. Roughly prices are between 20-40 pounds.

Never heard of a laundry ?
4 days clothes are sufficient for a 7 day trip....... use your imagination and see what you can get in a 7/8 kg backpack.
Can't be arsed to go to a laundry when on holiday. Besides clothes there are other things like electrical items to take. Also bring back loads of food items from Bangkok you cant get up in the north east.
Anyway i wouldnt want to deprive the wife of washing a weeks collection of my dirty clothes when i get home.

My Swift transfers from HSBC in England show as BTN in my Bangkok bank blue book, and BAHTNET on a statement.
Never shown as FTT.

On a SWIFT transfer, your bank will provide you with instructions on how to address the money. If those instructions include an "intermediate bank" located in Thailand, I would not use this. Instead, open an account at that "intermediate bank" (or Bangkok Bank), so as to avoid getting a statement showing your SWIFT transfers as "local" transfers.
Thanks for that. Need to lie down in a darkened room for a while now.

Why are all these people saying only take carry on luggage? Most people are going away for a week or more. Do they expect them to get a weeks clothes in a carry on bag.
I flew Air Asia from Don Muang last week to Nakhon Phanom.
There were 3 people in front of me at a self service machine, and it took 20 minutes to get to the front, as they kept pressing the wrong buttons. I think once you have used them once you are ok the next time, but can be a bit daunting first time.

Thanks for your replies. No, they dont keep your passport.
Maybe there has been an upsurge in marriage extension applications, due to the income letters situation.

Went for my 4th marriage extension 11th Oct , told to come back 5th dec. As it was a holiday yesterday went back today, but was told not ready yet. They will call when it is ready. What is the position as regards overstay?

Agree that long stayers should speak some thai, but immigration officers have to deal with people who have been here only a short time aswell, and i would have thought at least some basic english would be a requirement of the job.

If this results in loads of expats changing from retirement extensions, to marriage, i dont think Thai immigration are going to be too happy about it.

Are all these problems due to elderly westerners getting into unstatainable relationships with much younger thai girls?
