  1. Oh for sure they'll bring them through one at a time rather than all at once.

And in response to tropo's post, waiting isn't 100% safe either. The water could rise, there could be a cave-in, and beyond that there is the psychological risk & damage of extending the whole thing.

It's all risky, and there has to be one person with responsibility to make the call, advised by all experts. You can't run these things by committee and try to gain consensus on the best path forward, when it's all life or death decisions and risks in every direction.
I would listen to the parents of each child.

As there is no safe way to do this, informing of the risk and involve parents is my choice.

2 bad options to choose from.
  2. Rather surprised to see they haven't had a change of clothes yet.

Obviously some reason for that (besides the possible one that they haven't had the resources to bring the clothing through just yet).

    Perhaps physiological?
    Surprising to say the least.
Boys are skin and bone, but the seals are well dressed tough....
Playing around with iodine for the cameras instead of putting on socks and boots to stay warm and away from wear and tear.

Jackets, pants, boots and something on the head.

Conserve energy is important as food is "expensive" in that cave.

  3. Yes she / they, (There is an older male voice in the car also)  saw what was happening in time, but failed to brake at all I think ? ... Once again Thai suspension of Belief. ... "He should NOT Turn in front of me" !!!  (So I, Will not slow down) ...

The truck was in the wrong, but he was stopped also I think, when they hit him, ...while trying to speed past in front of him, ... they just miss timed it ???  ... I would refuse to pay them also, though I think that a 50/50 deal should be reached. and including his damage also.
    Yes.

Passing a truck that is basically at a stand still at full/over speed is just for morons.

License revoked for both of them.
    But mostly her.

point taken but even a expert like you may not react the correct way twice.

    maybe

but this specific one was an easy one, not a problem to avoid

you are not obliged to run full speed into other stupid drivers/objects, this lady has no capacity left at all to deal with the situation, so she was driving way to fast for her capacity.

i agree and easy to say looking at the video, in real life i dont think we have time to think we would do, we just react and no one knows how they would react. how many times have we all done something then when we had time to think, we then thought why did i not do this or that.

after some traffic experience you also start to act correctly, even in panic  (at least i did)

miles and experience under the belt.

    your mileage may vary.

I wouldn't have tried doing a left evasive turn. You never know what could be coming in the left lane and no time to check...

assuming I would have been in that situation.

I guess i would have taken it on the left side as the lowest risk.

Its a risk yes, but statistically its the lowest IMHO.

Slamming the breaks you could get someone from behind.

Normally i am aware bout what is behind me but not always, and other morons could easily come slamming into me when i am at a dead stop unable to get away quick enough.

so yep that would be my choice.

Overbraking? In a BMW with state of the art ABS?

She should have slammed the brakes as hard as she could. Probably would have stooped before impacting the truck.

The truck driver is at fault. But the lady is also at fault. I have a dash cam in my BMW and my guess is she was doing at least 100 km/h. Maybe even 120 km/h. On a wet road with U-turns. So both at fault. Two moron Thai drivers.

    agree 100%

she could have stopped way before the truck, if she just stepped on it.

best option would have been a fairly hard break and go on his left side, IMHO

lacking the skills of  both options I  would recommend the lady not to speed above capability.

It seems to be a unanimous response to the truck drivers cause of the accident.. lets hope the court sees it the same way or if they're as blind as the driver was !!!

speeding and running int to an accident with her eyes open is the problem.

truck driver wrong yes, but that is no reason for her to cold-blooded run into him.

Plenty of time to see what was happening and to understand that the traffic situation was becoming way to complex for the speed she was running at.

basically the first thing you notice of the bat, is that this is quite fast for a "lady" , next when you see the truck you know this will not end well, no sign of breaking from this lady, no no.

True, the truck driver starting turning carelessly but, The car driver had observed plenty of warning that the truck was turning and about to block her exit., But, rather than slow down, she continues at speed towards him. that in my books is also careless driving as she showed no attempt to slow and even moved onto median hard shoulder.

Lacking the brain-capacity to see the accident coming her way.

"Normal" people would have slowed down, problem solved.

  10. It seems to be quite normal for these guys to have the attitude it's only Thailand, everybody does it coupled with 'it won't happen to me.'
I know quite a few retirees who regularly drink 5 to 10 beers and drive home thinking that if they are stopped by police it will be 500 baht and carry on. It might be in some cases but when/if they kill someone for sure 500 baht won't work. It is entirely possible a bit of jail time and maybe a flight home is heading his way.
I think it's normal for them to be alcoholics.
    Priorities are accordingly.

Other people's life's is at the bottom of the list.

No they don't.  People do not get run over on the hard shoulder in the UK.  Firstly, if you break down you pull to the hard shoulder and get out of your car and off the hard shoulder.  Secondly, trucks and cars never ever drive on the hard shoulder to undertake or to use it as a shortcut if there is traffic.

It is tragic but there is no education about the dangers here.  Remember the policeman getting killed by the actress when he pulled over for a nap on the motorway?
They lack the capacity to imagine what could happen in the next 2 seconds.

The foresight capabilities is down to 0.1 seconds.
